Topic: Hartford CT 5/17/14

Well, it's April now, the tour has started and May is just around the corner! I discovered Joe a little over a year ago just going through YouTube videos if I recall. Ever since than I've been learning his songs on guitar and watching his blu-rays. I don't think a day goes by where he doesn't cross my mind in some way. Anyways this will be my first Joe Bonamassa concert ever so as you can imagine I'm very excited! (he's my favorite guitarist/artist) I watched all of his DVDs and listened to all of his albums so I pretty much know what I'm in for but, please tell me what to expect behind what I see and hear in the DVDs. Also whoever is going to see him at the Bushel, please post for role call.

Expect to walk out of the Bushel completely blown away and telling yourself what did I just see. You will love it.
I will be at the Bushel. Enjoy the show and welcome to the forum.

Re: Hartford CT 5/17/14

I'll most likely be there. I saw Joe the last time he was at the Bushnell as well. It's a great venue!

Re: Hartford CT 5/17/14

As others have posted - the Bushnell is a great venue. We ( 20 of us) saw him there the last time also. I am from Hartford and have seen various performances at the Bushnell for 35 yrs. I also had the pleasure of a M & G at the Bushnell on Joe's last visit to Hartford. Even though Joe was under the weather for that performance he played like he was in perfect health. The crowd really loved Joe and he rewarded us with a return visit.
As far as what to expect - everyone's experience is different. When I go to shows now I get a kick of meeting Bonavirgins before the show. They kind of know what to expect but in reality they have not experienced it yet. I also tell the Bonavirgins that they will NEVER be the same after that the first live show.
Since 2005 I know I have never been the same. That year Joe was 3rd bill behind the great BB King and KWS. Joe stole the show by the way.
Kmid24 - get there early and mill around with those early arrivals. Take it al in. Black Eyed Sally's is a good option. Vito's and Salute if you want something a little nicer. Show #10 for me and I can't get enough!
Be prompt - Joe starts at 8 pm SHARP!

Re: Hartford CT 5/17/14

I will be at this show as well, my 3rd. I'll be at "Salute" for dinner and drinks before the show.

Re: Hartford CT 5/17/14

Does anyone know if there are scheduled special guests? This is our first show and by looking through the you tube videos he's played with some very talented people. Who will the band consist of?
Thanks Tom

Welcome to the forum Tom.
You can look at show reviews from any on this present tour and get a summary of what to expect. No special guests needed with this group. They all are special. You'll get the acoustic opener with Mats, Lenny and Gerry adding the magic with the array of instruments which should last about 45 minutes, then a short break and on to the electric set with Tal, Carmine and Derek doing duty, then the encore with all members joining in. That lasts about an hour and a half. I'm not saying there won't be some special guest since Joe likes to surprise us all the time. Get there on time, you can set your watch to 8PM by the first note so be in your seat well before. Have a blast! As I've said many times before to BonaVirgins, bring a floor jack to get your jaw up after the show. smile You'll never forget this night to come. If you have the chance, meet up with the forum fans before the show at the spot listed. Just stand up and yell for any Bonamaniacs in the house. You'll be among friends.

Re: Hartford CT 5/17/14

With the show coming up in a few days I've been thinking about it more. I thought of a few more questions. How early do most venues let you in for a Joe concert? Can I bring a digital camera and use flash? Is there any chance of meeting Joe before or after the concert without a M&G?

Time of entry is venue dependent. Call them. Point and shoot camera only without detachable lens. NO FLASH EVER! You might see some of the band before or after but most likely not Joe unless you have a m/g. Have fun!

At every place we've been doors open at 7 and show starts at exactly 8

Re: Hartford CT 5/17/14

Another amazing night...just back from The Bushnell and Joe was money again. IMO better tonight than in Kingston Tuesday, not sure what it was but crowd seemed a bit more into it and maybe I am off base but his playing, especially solo's seemed a little more on. Don't get me wrong every show is awesome and without a doubt this was too. Hope everyone enjoyed it!
Now I guess I will be off til the fall tour....see you in Springfield!!!

Re: Hartford CT 5/17/14

Agree with the other posters - suburb effort by Joe and his bands. The acoustic set is the perfect intro the evening.
Saw the show in Providence Thursday. Both shows in my mind displayed Joe in prime form. No special guest in Hartford unlike Providence. Joe had tons of energy last night. He last played here in 2012. I saw him at the M&G that year and he was sick. He played like a trooper in '12 which we all expect. Last night - healthy and having fun. I spent the acoustic in the pit and the electric portion in front of the mezz. In the pit you get the stage monitors of course - overall the sound was very good. In the mezz while the band sounded very clear Joe's vocals sounded muffled.
Derek adds so much to the band - loved his solos. I have never been a huge keys fans in general ( my least favorite instrument sad to say) but I am slowly changing my thoughts on that.
The crowd was enthusiastic and generally well behaved. Always a few mouths that like to hear themselves during those quiet moments but not excessive last night.
Slow Gin was a killer last night. I have heard the song live many times and last night was my favorite version. Joe and the boys clicked on the entire song. The crowd jumped their feet at the end of the song. BOJH has evolved a lot through he years in a live setting - longer version on this tour it seems with Derek's solo. Killer song as usual. I have to mention Blues Deluxe. I firmly believe if I had to choose only one song to hear Joe play live it would be this song. While the songs mentioned above are classics in concert there is no song that affects me like Blues Deluxe. I guess deep down I am a blues guy. Long may that song live at Joe's shows.
I feel blessed to have been able to see Joe twice in three days. Thanks again to Ron for his generous nature ( Providence).

Re: Hartford CT 5/17/14

Hi all
Joe was absolutely on fire!!!! I saw Joe in Providence, Hampton and Hartford. OMG what a experience. Joe you keep getting better and better my friend. I was fortunate to have front row center to all three shows with my friend Jay. Joe I have seen you many times but my friend you blew me away. I have NEVER seen anyone play so clear, clean and articulate as you did the past three shows. I can't wait until Red Rock see you soon.
I have attached two vids nothing like my friends Natasha and Phil. I am sorry for the sound in spots and the turning of the camera, you will need to rotate at some spots. The second vid about 1min and 57 sec Tai and Lenny do a drum solo that is mind bending. Tal Lenny you guys are simply incredible. I was completely in awe. I have been to hundreds of Rock shows over the years and i have not seen two percussionist play with such passion. you guys rock.
Cheers to the whole band what a week thank you so much
cheers Ron
Vid One holy crap batman that man can play:
