Topic: Yakima and Boise show setlist and review

Wow...what a great 2 nights this was...and exactly the same set list. Here it is:
Acoustic
1. Woke Up Dreaming
2. Seagull
3. Jelly Roll
4. Black Lung Heartache
5. Driving Toward the Daylight
6. Jockey Full of Bourbon
7. Dislocated Boy
8. Ball Peen Hammer
9. Athens to Athens
Electric
10. Dust Bowl
11. Oh Beautiful(new)
12. Who's Been Talkin' ?
13. Midnight Blues
14. Slow Train
15.(new) Happiness?
16. Sloe Gin
17. Ballad of John Henry
encore
18. Django/Mountain Time
The show itself lasted about 2 hours 35 minutes with a fifteen minute break between the Acoustic and Eleclric sets. Highlights of the show on both nights were "Midnight Blues" "Athens to Athens" "Dust Bowl" "Dislocated Boy" and a 16 minutes "John Henry". The show has a really great flow to it...starting with the incredible Woke up Dreaming and ending the acoustic set with an awesome version of Athens to Athens...seriously...with this band...best I've ever seen. The Electric set starts with an super extended version of Dust Bowl and ends with a solo ridden John Henry...I mean...like ...everyone solos !! Even though he has dropped his JGP medley at the end....The John Henry end is maybe even better...it's just beyond words. Saw these shows from the first and second rows respectively, and the sound was great at both shows...especially the Morrison Center show...The Yakima show was on my birthday...so THANKS JOE AND BAND FOR MAKING MY 52ND A VERY MEMORABLE ONE!!...Oh...and just a couple more thoughts....Lenny Castro !! Adds so much to show...Derek ....great on keys...no better than Arlan, but certainly awesome in his own right...He looks like a friendly biker!. Tal is on a 2 story drum riser...Right where he belongs!!....The 2 new tunes were both totally killer!! Rock Rock Rock....He sounds like he's doing that Zepplin type thing again....SWEET!! These shows were as good or better than any I have seen....Enjoy....everyone!!    1047 miles roundtrip for this adventure !

This is an incredible set...like I said before....amazing set...the expanded band and new song placement just makes for a perfect show....I can't wait for the long term fans to see this and give me some more input...

Re: Yakima and Boise show setlist and review

OK, so this is my fourth Joe show! Sorry murfdog, I don’t fit the bill of a long term fan like the cool kids. At some point we will be! I was pleasantly surprised at the Capitol Theatre in Yakima. It’s rather small but the sound was great. We left from Seattle at about 12:30 or so, got to Yakima at 3. After checking in at the Yakima Red Lion and taking in the view of the pool from our astroturf balcony (the Threes Company song fits nicely here) we decided to venture out and see the town a bit (I swear I was waiting for Mrs. Roper to walk by in her muu muu. Come ‘n knock on our door...)

We found a place for lunch, and then walked around the corner to Gilbert cellars for some wine tasting. We chose to taste all of the reds. Some good wines there.

On to the show – there are no words. Amazing, awesome, fantastic, joyous, it was all of those things. You guys know what I’m talking about. I could go on and on. The acoustic set was well received and it looked like the guys were having fun. I want to choose standouts but when I look at the setlist that murfdog posted, I smile at each one as I go down the list. Every time I see Joe play Woke Up Dreaming, I feel like the acoustic guitar he’s playing is going to blow into bits from the sheer force and sounds that are coming out of it. Dust Bowl and John Henry, absolute favorites for me. Extended solos and such great tone!

I agree with murfdog on all points, the show had a great flow, everybody looked like they were having a great time. Funny story from Joe about visiting a pawn shop. It was super cool to see the two new guitars, a 65 Lake Placid Blue strat and the Bona-Byrd Mach II. They sounded and looked great. Completely different look compared to the bursts/teles/strats/goldtops/335s/firebirds (what am I missing? )

Is it possible Joe’s voice is even better still? I didn’t think it was possible! Holy $hit! I just want people to think about this, carrying an entire show (a long one, too) and it’s not just singing the words. It’s the musicianship, the adding vocal runs, really taking care to hold notes with feeling.

If the two new songs are any indication of how great the next album is going to be…we are in for a treat. Youtube is great and all, but witnessing them live! You know when you have a favorite artist, and you have all their music, but in the music store you go to their section anyway, in hopes that there is something rare or new, something you never heard before, because you want more!

This group of guys-what wonderful musicians. As always, we love Carmine and Tal. Lenny, Mats, and Gerry, all add such great layers to the music. I have always liked Derek’s music, so having him on keys is great.

Yakima crowd was a tiny bit better than some Seattle crowds have been. Maybe because the Seattle Paramount has a more accessible bar. Alcohol seems to fuel the buffoonery. I noticed less getting up and down and a bit less “turn it up, Joe!” comments. We were sitting with a great group of people who were totally into it. One lady was dancing with her hands in the air, having a revival moment. Fun to see. I met some new Bonabuds, which is always nice. One of them lives right near me! He was telling me how great Bonavegas was. Bonacrazies everywhere!

Even though our hotel’s webpage boasted having a lounge, it was closed before 10 o’clock. The evening ended with gas station snacks.

All in all, a fantastic time, funny little town, and neat road trip. I am now full of inspiration.

Can’t wait for the next show. Sorry for the long winded story, just wanted to say more than Awesome show! etc. Thank you Joe and crew!

RVFlyer and I were waiting at the 2nd St. Grill for you but you didn't show. My wife and I stayed at the Red Lion as well. Great show, the same as Spokane 2 nights prior but there seemed to be way more unruly screamers at Yakima. That's my biggest complaint is the azzholes that feel it's necessary to scream when Joe is playing the soft notes. Can't wait until he does a west coast tour including Seattle.

I am so sorry! I totally wanted to meet everyone. I was at the mercy of my friend who decided to drive and choose the pre-show events. sad This is what happens when you don't travel with your spouse.

Okay. Let's get this straightened out before Joe comes to Seattle. A big pre-show party sounds good.

There will come a day when I have seen Joe 30 or 40 times! I love hearing the stories of people on here that travel all over the world for shows.
