Re: Joe and Beth Hart

“I’m making a new record in August with Rob Mathes,” she says. “I should be making another record with Joe Bonamassa a little bit after that, while simultaneously writing the following record after that as well, as it’s going to be with Kevin Shirley instead of Rob Mathes. So I’ll be doing lots and lots of writing in the upcoming months, which I love, so I’m having a good time and it’s flowing."

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

First review I've seen of the DVD - and of course it's glowing...  wink

"There are two discs in the DVD version.  The first is the concert itself, and the second consists of two documentaries, one about the making of the film and the Amsterdam show, and the other covering the whole tour."

"It’s also clear watching the documentary from some of the comments that Joe Bonamassa sees Beth Hart as the star while she see’s him as the star.  In reality they both play a critical role – Beth’s vocals are just fantastic but Joe’s superb guitar playing adds so much to it, and it’s the combination of the two that makes this so special."

"A great release that gives you not only a fantastic concert but also plenty to watch in the documentaries that are on the second disc.  It’s only just March but this has to be a strong contender for the best live DVD of the year."

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Joe's right, she's the Star.  Not that he isn't one.  Just reminded of associations like B.B. King and Bobby "Blue" Bland, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terell, and many other duos, whether both musicians, vocalists (singers), one singing with "star"accompaniment, mixed gender, mixed genre, "twins" of different parentage, "mixed"...etc.  Enjoy this.  It is a rewarding and glorious combination. cool

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Well, this review cracked me up. This person is quite critical of Beth & Joe and claims to not be a fan of either... yet still gave the DVD 4.5 out of 5. I guess there's no denying talent.

This review is so glowing it's almost embarrassing...   wink

"There was a time when female singers exuded sass and danger in equal measure, tearing up the airwaves with a rock ‘n’ roll spirit that threatened to burn anyone in too close a proximity. Singers such as Janis Joplin, Tina Turner and Aretha  Franklin not only offered their remarkable voices to the world, but an attitude and style that was more than a match for their male contemporaries. Who, in the modern world,  could legitimately be seen as the heir to those great singers of the sixties and seventies; those pioneers who took on a male-dominated industry and forever stamped their identity on modern music?..."

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Here are a couple of reviews that popped up this morning. Hard for the reviewers to remain aloof.
"Live In Amsterdam is yet another reason, alongside his own night that was recorded for posterity at the Vienna Opera House, in which to sit back and acknowledge that Joe Bonamassa is just one of those guitarist that when the time comes, the bell strikes its final lingering hour, you can say with absolute clarity and spoken lucidity that you were honoured to share your passion for music with."

I got a notice mine shipped today.

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

My package - bluray & cd - arrived in the post today.   I thought it was something else, so I didn't open it until a few minutes ago.  Too late for me to watch it today, will do so when I get home from work tomorrow morning.

It will give me something to look forward to!!!

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Just finished watching the bluray at 'concert volume '

Sure glad I waited until this morning to watch this - it is FANTASTIC!!!

Apart from the great musicianship of the band and the awesome vocals one thing that struck me was that everyone in the whole band was having fun that night.  Would love to have been in the front few rows for that show.

My only disappointment is that I Will Take Care of You is not on the discs, for that omission I will have to give this recording a 9/10.

Also, wish this band would tour Australia - I would give a testicle to see these two and the band play.

Sure, Beth is guesting at the Jeff Beck concert in a months time, but it is not the same thing!!!

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Ours arrived today and I just watched some of it. So cool to be able to relive these shows and so neat to see Maggie, Trisha and George there in the front row. Caught a tiny glimpse of Michael. I was too little to be seen since most people there were at least 18 inches taller than me, lol! The Dutch are like giants big_smile We'll have to sit down when we have more time and watch it all the way through. From the parts that I saw, though, it is fantastic!

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

Just watched both DVD's. Really well done and the sound is great! I was lucky enough to be at this show in the front row and even though there's nothing like actually being in the venue, this is the next best thing. Was great to see it from different perspectives from so many different camera angles - you don't get that by sitting in one place in the venue. Nice to see Joe's guitar close up as well as all the other musicians and all the smiles on everyone's faces - I agree it seemed everyone was having a lot of fun. Loved getting so many behind the scenes extras to watch. Too many highlights to list but wow, I almost forgot how epic I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know was! wink

Re: Joe and Beth Hart

The DVD arrived today - no problems with X-rating this time (see previous posts on TDF DVDs), so have just happily sat down with a glass of wine to watch the first half of the concert

It is of course quality through and through. I saw Joe and Beth outdoors at Hampton Court last year on a balmy British summer evening (well, it wasn't raining and I was only wearing two jackets, which counts as balmy in that neck of the woods) and it brings back magical memories. The sound on the night in London was really vibrant, Beth's voice had such power, but as others have remarked it's also great to see a close-up view on the DVD and the enjoyment that everyone is obviously feeling.

I used to be a fan of Chicken Shack's "I'd rather go blind" (they were our village band when I was growing up), but after Joe and Beth's version I can never listen to it again. The emotion they put into their singing and playing is just on another level. Crossing fingers and toes for another chance to see them before too long, but till then this DVD will do the trick!
