Topic: College Tour of the USA

Hi all you Bonamaniacs

Any suggestions as to connections for setting up a college tour for a great new metal act from Scotland. They are called Yashin and they can be heard on www.myspace.com/theyashin.

They are thinking of branching out to the mighty US of A and would appreciate any suggestions which might assist this transition.

Although not a blues band per say I would argue that all rock is influenced by blues so there is your connection.

millhouse-I couldn't get that link to open.  There is a book out entitled The Rolling Stones College Guide-Schools That Rock by Jenny Eliscu.  It's broken down by college towns with good music schools and good music venues in college towns.

Re: College Tour of the USA

this isnt a criticism of your band but after having gone to venues around every college town here i will just tell you now before you get disappointed you arent going to be able to play at any of the places designed for bands ie clubs that seat 500+.  also with metal most bars at the school i went to werent really looking for anything like that, id say your best bet is to do good research and just find good metal bars in kthe us rather than looking into college towns because i have gone to college in us very recently and just giving you my god's honest opinion here, again a reflection more on the crowd than your band, which i am not here to judge, more people would be turned away from a normal bar by that music than would be drawn in.  i think you would be better off limiting it to europe and if you start to get recognition over here for what youve done here, then come over here.  the thing is metal is far more popular in europe, and i know a fair deal about metal or at least bands going and havent heard of you, so i would bet money that no one elsse over here has either, and your sound, this is about as judgemental as im going to get, just isnt that different from a lot of other metal bands going right now.

Thanks for your honest opinion. No you are unlikely to have heard of Yashin as they have just started out. That was the reason for the post to get advice from people who reside in the US and know the scene.
