Topic: New 'Supergroup' - 3 ex Joe members?

Hey, has anyone heard talk of a new supergroup featuring Zakk Night, Bogie Bowles, Eric Czar and Rick Merrick? Heard something yesterday but not sure that it's credible.

Rick Mellick, that used to play with Joe? I have not heard anything yet but would not consider this a "supergroup" per se. They are all very talented, would probably buy it if they put something out.

Apparently they are rehearsing together with the view of a European tour in November. Not sure if it's true, but someone may know.

Yes it's true, they want to tour Europe this fall.

Re: New 'Supergroup' - 3 ex Joe members?

At first I thought this was about California Brood. True? Maybe the two bands will tour together?

Lets have a Name The Band  contest!!! smile

Just call me doubting Thomas but I find this difficult to take seriously. For one Rick has been in Australia to my knowledge, Bogie is in Salt Lake, Eric is in NYC so they are rehearsing together for a fall tour? I'll believe it when I see it. I guess.

You never know if it will really happen of course but I read the letter the promotors sent to a bookingsoffice if they wanted to to do the bookings this fall in Europe.
So looks serious I think.

Re: New 'Supergroup' - 3 ex Joe members?

Thanks Guenter I checked his page and he is in US. Andre it is one of those chicken or the egg things. What comes first. Book a tour then form the band or form the band and book the tour. Evidently there is an effort to do something. For one who wouldn't want to form a band with guys like that? I just wonder where Zakk Knight came from and what he brings to the table. I have seen Youtube's of him and he is no Joe Bonamassa. If you were making the effort to ride on Joe's legacy and previous band members then Ryan McGarvey already has it going on in Europe and put that band behind him and you might have something. Zakk Knight not so much.

Re: New 'Supergroup' - 3 ex Joe members?

Jim, I agree about Ryan, he would be the perfect one. We'll see what happens.

Re: New 'Supergroup' - 3 ex Joe members?

At least Ryan was or still is looking for a new bass player. Looking at a video with Zakk Night I had the same impression as Jim did. (Actually I was first mixing him up with the other Zakk, but that would be a different story.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJizAShJ0fA I like this acoustic performance. His voice seems better than the electric stuff I heard.

Still it just seems strange that I guy that can't get arrested I'm guessing in his home town thinks he can book a tour in Europe no matter who is in his band. I wish Eric, Bogie and Rick all the success they deserve and their resumes should be able to get them a gig with any established artist looking for a talented experienced player to add to their band. Just wouldn't think any of them are willing to do the van and trailer bit again at this time in their lives.

Re: New 'Supergroup' - 3 ex Joe members?

About Ryan: He's not a Joe clone. He's got the same vibe around him as Joe had back in the days and WOW the guy can play!!! But he certainly deserves a carreer on his own without always being compared to Joe. Don't know if what's suggested here would be wise for him.
Ryan doesn't need to ride on Joes legacy, he's got talent of his own.

Re: New 'Supergroup' - 3 ex Joe members?

i gets my Zakk Wyldes mixed up with my Zakk Nights, me bad - Zakk Wylde is a monster metallish guitarist and has his own career and uber busy, Mr Z Night don't know too much about so will YT him ..... anyway anything Bogie and Eric venture into i will be following, as stated not sure Rick Melick is in on this possible project as he/was in Australia on some music project but has been seen with Kevin recently - so?  who knows

if it does happen could be possibly an awesome sound coming out from these 3 very talented musicians and with an expressive guitarist, could result in some fine Rock/Blues

awaiting more anticipated confirmation but at the moment its early days

I threw Ryan out there because he has traction in Europe that Zakk Knight doesn't. Zakk Knight would be only riding on the reputations of Joe's former band mates. Now as far as Joe comparisons go Ryan is much more influenced by Joe than Zakk Knight in my opinion,, however I don't suggest he do something with Joe's former players as a Joe clone or tribute band I just think he benefits by having the caliber of players Rick, Eric, and Bogie are and what they would bring his show. They would take it to a level that he hasn't obtained with any of the bands I have seen him with. Yes Ryan is a player and talented but I say if he wasn't exposed to Joe's fanbase he wouldn't of had the success in Europe he has. There are many people that would love to ride on Joe's legacy and it certainly doesn't hurt to have Joe paving the way and giving him credibility as an artist.

I first saw Joe when he was 25 and Ryan is around that age I believe. I have promoted Ryan here over the last couple of years and he will be back at the end of the month. Ryan may be a talented guitarist but is he the next Joe Bonamassa? Not with out making some drastic changes to his band and set list in my opinion. He is doing much better in Europe than here. It is much harder to break here and my little town is a tough sell. I managed to do 500 paid in 2003 with Joe, Kenny and Eric and we did that for several years. He finally doubled that in 2010 and doubled again in 2012 I expect nearly doubling again in 2014. Ryan would need to do 10 times what he does currently to match Joe's audience the 3rd time in. He needs to do something. I would start with changing the band up and that would be a band that could truly make a difference in Ryan's show. It is missing something.
