Topic: Best albums for a new listener :)

Hello, am new, just introduced myself in the introductions forum smile

I've just discovered Joe via youtube the other week while listening to Gary Moore.
I'd love to know which albums I'd be best off starting off with? Although all I've heard so far sounds good!!

Have a few of the freebie download songs on my mp3 player, Dust Bowl, I know where I belong etc. Love his more bluesy stuff. I know he does mostly if not all blues stuff? is that right?  I'm quite new to blues music, having just discovered Gary Moore and the like.

So point me in the right direction for which albums would be best for me to start with?

Thank you smile

Re: Best albums for a new listener :)

I found the live albums best to show the true genius and ability, Live from nowhere in particular and Royal Albert Hall. include more of the  bluesy, For studio, Driving towards the daylight and Dust Bowl are a good start. It doesn't really matter, once you are hooked you will probably buy them all anyway. lol

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Thank you!!

I downloaded the free download of the Dust Bowl song, I think I'm hooked lol I don't know how many times I've listened to that song, I've lost count, its been on constant repeat!

Re: Best albums for a new listener :)

Welcome to the forum and your new addiction. The live releases are indeed a good way to start. The dvd of the Rockpalast gig is a great way to visit some of the earliest trio music. Tour De Force is a great retrospective of his career to date with a bit of everything in the 4 live DVD/BRay releases.

Re: Best albums for a new listener :)

ain't that a great song?!!! welcome to the forum Glam, friendly Bonamaniacs abound. Rockpalast really is good as Rick says, but that is not Joe's chubby brother playing guitar, he has lost a lot of weight since then. lol Live at the Beacon is also very good, but Royal Albert Hall is an absolute must see, you'll have goose bumps for days. You may have to get out the Kleenex tissue as well. Enjoy the company here, good to have you.

Re: Best albums for a new listener :)

Dust Bowl is my favorite JB album (it's very stylistically diverse), followed by Ballad of John Henry and Sloe Gin.  Blues Deluxe is great, Black Rock is really good, his live albums are all really good.  Welcome!

Re: Best albums for a new listener :)

Royal Albert Hall, is a must.  As was stated before, you will have "goose bumps".  I still get them every time.
After that you need to go see Joe live some where, any where. Then you will be one of us...one of us...one of us...

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Re: Best albums for a new listener :)

I watched every youtube video of Joe I could find when I first discovered him.  A great variety is out there.  I think if you listen to his catalog in order you will here the evolution of his voice.  The playing was there the entire time in my opinion.   I think Royal Albert Hall the first one, is probably a great place to start and then try Sloe Gin.

Wow!!

Hi to you all and thank you for all the replies smile

Seems I have a lot of listening to do hehe smile

PS, I think I'm now obsessed with that Dust Bowl song, it is on constant repeat on my poor little MP3 player.  Played it for my friend yesterday, she was like nahhhhh I don't like him. I was like what?! Then again they like Westlife and the like lol. Each to their own............

Re: Best albums for a new listener :)

Been playing Had to Cry Today over last couple of days and now appreciate an album which I had previously neglected in exchange for Joe's more notable releases...

Just get them all, you won't be disappointed lol

Re: Best albums for a new listener :)

If you love the CD's you have to try the DVD's if you can. My fave so far is Live at the Beacon. Watching him play is mesmerizing. I can't say enough good things about his playing and performing.

Hate to sound like I need a 12 step group, but that's just the way it is. LOL

What 5 cds did you get? smile I'm thinking Dust Bowl one for me first, then a live one. We're just gonna get them all anyway right?
