Topic: Joe and a Harmonica??

I keep thinking that the first time I saw Joe (opened for Tesla @ The Surf) he pulled out a harmonica and played it.  I can't remember for the life of me, whether that really happened, or I just got that image in my head for some reason...maybe I dreamt it...... Has anybody seen Joe play a harmonica?    Patty

P.S.  I have not been drinking, but it is rather late.

Patty, I haven´t seen him play a harmonica - but how cool would that be?!

I love Joe´s songs with Harmonica - so Joe, if you don´t play yet - LEARN IT! wink

Patty,
Joe did not play a harmonica at the Surf Ballroom that night, but rumor has it that he plays a mean accordion! smile:):)

Re: Joe and a Harmonica??

Having started going to a open mic blues jam hosted by a harmonica-playing lead singer about 3 years ago, I re-evaluated my opinion of "harp" in the context of blues music, having been primarily exposed to Bob Dylan and Neil Young's versions of what a harmonica sounds like (read: awful).  I was really happy to hear that Joe enlisted the considerable talents of Jon Paris on several tracks of "Blues Deluxe", most notably "Burning Hell".

I know a couple pretty good harp players, and it would be awesome to see one get up and jam with Joe like LD Miller has from time to time.  My fantasy would be Joe and Jason Ricci...but somehow I doubt that'd happen.  For those of you who haven't heard my exaltations of Jason, search the forum for other posts and please go see the band (New Blood) when they come to your town.  If you're disappointed I'd be shocked.  I recently had an opportunity to get up and jam with him and thanks to the quick thinking of a friend in the audience, ended up playing "You Upset Me" (Joe's version, more or less) with Jason on harp and it sounded fan-frickin-tastic!

If I can figure out a way, I'll try to put up a link to a recording I made of it.

Re: Joe and a Harmonica??

I'd pay good money to see him play with a Kim Wilson or a Mark Hummel.

Re: Joe and a Harmonica??

I'm with you there Chris.  I'd toss in Rod Piazza, Carlos Del Junco, Billy Branch, Charlie Musselwhite, Richard Salwitz (;)), Alvin Chipmunk (he has a no tour restriction), LD Miller  (of course) and / or John Mayall (together?) or certainly  Norton Buffalo or John Paul Hammond doing a stint as vocalist and harpist with Joe.  Given the musical turn coming, however, I'd try out Corky Siegel or especially Howard Levy. cool

Re: Joe and a Harmonica??

I've got a hunch we're going to see L.D. Miller sittin' in on a lot of the tour in the future. How's about some Your Funeral My Trial in future set lists???? Like I said, it's just a hunch.

Re: Joe and a Harmonica??

That would be fantastic.  It makes sense, like BB mentoring by giving guys a share of his stage...we all know how that works...Same with my fantasy John Mayall / LD Miller hookup, trading licks on that song (John Mayall being famous for having "guests" along also)!

Speaking of Joe & a harmonica....check this out:

Looks like this guy added his own harp track....but it's pretty tastefully done, I wouldn't have guessed unless I searched the guy's other posts.
