Topic: Dinner for two

Was discussing with a good friend the other day if we could chose to have dinner with anyone dead or alive who would it be? Besides Joe! LOL I picked Robert Downey Jr. not only because he is Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes, and my celeb crush tongue  but he has a killer voice as well! He also came back from almost defeat and made it in the industry! Just thought this would be a fun topic and would love to see what everyone puts!

Re: Dinner for two

It's a great topic Erin, and never really thought about it. Just one huh? well I would like to have Lowell George and Stevie Ray, oh the stories they could tell. However, reduced to just one then I'll take a sober SRV, which he was in his later years. Now, what to eat? I'm gonna fix him up some pecan smoked pork shoulder that we refer to as Boston Butt, collard greens from scratch, seasoned pintos with roasted poblano pepper, and corn muffins.

I mean as long as we're talking about food, what you gonna feed em?

Physicist Dr Brian Cox so hopefully I would finally understand some of the particle science theories. Also he is mad on music and astronomy. That would be some interesting night. big_smile

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Dinner for two

At first glance this sounded easy but I really can't say who.  I love lots of folks for various reasons.

Dead   perhaps a  somewhat sober Jim Morrison to ask him about his lyrics.

Alive   Ellen DeGeneres cause  I totally dig her sense of humor.

Re: Dinner for two

nice choices! Mary, I love Ellen as well! She would be one I would chose for sure! Also love the SRV one as well! Now i'm just hungry! LOL

Re: Dinner for two

Alive:  Definitely Joe Bonamassa with Sandi Thom, too!  cool  smile

Moved On:  My Don  :hug

Re: Dinner for two

Obvious religeous references aside as that's off limits, I would say Ben Franklin.  I just think it would be way cool to spend time with him to show him all the things this electricity stuff has done.

Re: Dinner for two

nice choice, but I would want to hear about all the women he had in France while fathering 100-150 illegitimate kids. lol
I'm sorry, it may not have been quite that many.

I would have to say at this point my dinner for two would have to be with the one of a kind, possibly IMHO and via factual evidence one of the most brilliant living humans of this day, one of my personal heroes, Mr. Ralph Nader!
He is by far one of the most interesting people I have ever met (had the pleasure a few times but no long convos) and although I am thankful for the writings he shares regularly, I am always curious what is on his mind at the moment. I have gained so much inspiration from his words I can not begin to explain. His understanding of complicated issues and dedication to justice is unparalleled and he explains things in terms that I can understand.

I am well aware of the fact that many do not share this affinity for the man. Please let me assure you I am 100% serious about this and please don't bother trying to show me some light or get political here. I am just being honest. his dedication to his works would probably prevent him from taking the personal time to share with me but it would be my first pick. I am fairly certain he is vegetarian but i am not so sure I would cook for him but would be glad to.

Re: Dinner for two

I would love to be able to sit and have dinner and good conversation with my parents and my sister again.

Re: Dinner for two

Paul McCartney. And the meal would be vegetarian, of course. wink

PSmith - Very interesting and complex subject, I try to understand. My son is currently working on his PhD in Physics in this area. I believe Dr. Brian Greene is known to explain things well. (The Elegant Universe) http://www.briangreene.org/

Re: Dinner for two

Wow, there are so many great choices. My first thought was my mom and dad, who've been gone for over 10 years now. But I think the intent of this was more along the lines of someone of note or celebrity.
The mention of Paul McCartney above made my decision for me:

John Lennon

Re: Dinner for two

OK if family is off limits......

Gram Parsons

Re: Dinner for two

Hey Bill,
After I posted, I was going to back and edit for 2 choices, living and passed on as in John. RIP

I hope you tuned into to the Grammy sponsored Beatle celebration on Feb. 9th. I bought all Beatle oriented little Valentine gifts for my family...guitar picks, t-shirts. My son sent me this with a thanks. http://i.imgur.com/pT2tENb.png  The Beatles & their sons, George's son Dani is a clone and the others share likeness.

Spider...I didn't mean to imply family was off limits, it just seemed like such an easy decision I felt like I was cheating! Lol. There is nobody I'd rather have dinner with than my mom and dad.

Bill, no offense was taken. No problem at all.

Now as for someone alive & well, my choice would have to be Viggo Mortensen.

Re: Dinner for two

Carl Sagan.
