Topic: Anyone else tired of winter???

ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!

Have a laugh on me -

Last week a record number of folks were without power because of a massive ice storm in Southeastern Pennsylvania.  My parents, 90 & 85 had flown back from Florida because they like their doctors here better. Its been the worst weather since they've been here!!

So they lose their power, but my dad's electronic staircase and recliner both have battery back-ups and they decide to stay put, even though they have 2 children with power 25 minutes and 60 minutes away. (neither of us have full baths or bedrooms on the first floor)

The power isn't coming back on for almost 24 hours and surprisingly their brick townhouse stayed much warmer than a single home, but they decide to let me come get them and move them about 3 miles to a hotel with a restaurant. I drive an hour, get them all packed up (including a walker, snacks, 6 pack of beer and wine wink ) and move them to the hotel. We get in the room and my mom says, I think I left a candle burning in the kitchen!! UGH, I think its blown out or I would have noticed, but who could relax worrying...

So, I drive back to the townhouse and the candle was blown out, but the power was back on!!! lol

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

UK flooding everywhere, wettest on record usually two storms a week with winds in yesterdays hitting 112mph, forecast again for a repeat tonight. Yes you can say fed up is definitely accurate. Todays news sums it all up well.

Chicago is actually suppose to be above freezing this week! Seeing temperatures in the 30's is a real treat! I should probably get the slip n' slide out! big_smile

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

I guess we shipped our Winter East. We have had almost none of our usual Winter wet and chilly this year. Most of December and January were in the mid 60 to mid 70 region. California is in a seriously bad drought, worst in history they say and the fertile San Fernando Valley where a third of the fruits and vegetables that feed the country are grown is turning into a dust bowl.  I feel for you folks in that nasty weather and especially those poor ones getting flooded in the UK. We could sure use the rain here!

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

Totally with you.  This winter will not end.  Lucky for us we have finally had 4 straight days with sunshine and today it is actually 40 degrees outside (Fahrenheit).  But guess what, tomorrow they are calling for more snow.  Enough already.  We have had snow and ice on the ground for two weeks.  Last winter we did not even have snow.  Crazy.  Moving to So Cal with Rick and Rocket.

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

I used to like winter a lot more than summer, can't stand the heat. Now I'm not so sure, we got 3 inches of snow last night coming on the heels of the problems we had just two weeks ago with snow and ice. It's all pretty much melted off, I had no problems getting to work this morning. Seriously, I'm in the camp of those blaming it on global warming, it seems to be making the winter precipitation worse year after year. I'm sick of it too!!!

PS: it's supposed to be in the upper 60s by Monday, wild fluctuations in temp are another concern. I always seem to get sick or have some serious sinus issues.

It is looking like that climate thing more and more, but not the warming part. Here's some science that you don't see in the news. Keep an open mind since these are facts, and they do seem to add up. http://www.suspicious0bservers.org/

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

Oh my can I relate to this. Last week we had a horrible ice storm in our area on the night before we were to fly out to California for the RCFP shows. My mother-in-law suggested we go down to the airport that night and stay in hotel there. I am so glad she suggested this because when we called my son in the morning it turns out a large branch fell in our driveway right where Phil normally parks his car and took out our power line. If we had stayed home, Phil's car would have been crushed and there is no way we would have made it out to the shows in time. The storm was so bad our entire town was without power for at least 16 hours. In-laws came and got my son and he stayed with them overnight. I was worried about him, but he said I was over-reacting and it was like an adventure. Now today we are having a massive snowstorm with over 20 inches of snow. We haven't even been able to clean up all the branches that came down in the last storm. I feel like we are caught in some alternate reality with perpetual winter that we can never get out of. Will Spring ever come and will I ever see the green of the lawn again??!!

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

The ice causing falling trees is the worst part!! You got lucky there.  I hit a few detours getting to my parents because of all of the trees down. When I turned on this one road...what a work of mother nature...the sun was out strong behind trees with a thick coat of ice, everything was so bright and glistening, it was spectacular!!

On a sad note, a neighbor helping a neighbor move a tree off his driveway...a branch came down on the good samaratin and hit him in the head. He is still in critical condition, I feel really bad and he himself is an emergency room doctor. Hoping he recovers...

We were snowbound today, hoping we get out tomorrow. My hubby and I like to cook...we made soup and beef stew today. And we are looking forward to a Beatle Tribute show tomorrow night for Valentine's Day...hoping the band gets in and the roads are OK. wink

Maybe we are stuck like Bill Murray's movie Groundhog Day!!

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

This has been one of the worst weather weeks ever here in MD.  We lost power for 2 solid days at the end of last week due to a nasty ice storm, then today we got 24" of snow - 16" this morning and 8" this evening.  REALLY getting old, as are the regular single digit temperatures at night.  At least that stopped as of last night & tonight, since we're up into the balmy 20's now.

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

I'm tired of winter. But I live in the northeast and it is after all winter time. Still.

Praying for a early spring.

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

Winter had me beat back in December.  Record snowfalls and low temps.  January we got a bit of a break, but it has returned.  -19c yesterday morning, right now it is +2 with a forecast of +10 later.  Lots of snow over night, pouring down rain this morning!!  Tonight...more snow.

And I have an outside job.

I'll survive.

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

Believe it or not: In my region Heidelberg/Mannheim (in the middle of Germany) no snowflake was to be seen till now! At the moment there are temperatures like early spring and the daffodiles in the garden in front of my house come out about 10cm...
I believe if I weren`t in my skiing vacation in Austria after Christmas I wouldn`t have experienced the winter season this year. Maybe in March or April?! we will get winter feeling...

Re: Anyone else tired of winter???

Thanks for the chuckle!
I'm always starting to tire of winter by mid February.
This year has been especially harsh in the Chicago area....lots of sub zero weather, including lows down to -20 degrees F, that's right F! Wind chills down to -50 degrees F.

It's ok if you dress for it and aren't outside for too long.
That said, I'm ready for a 60 or 70 degree day...only a few more months, lol.
