Topic: Pavlik Crowned Middleweight Champion

Hi-

It was excited night for the city of Youngstown, Ohio.  Our hometown boxer name Kelly Pavlik took on undefeated Middleweight Champion Jermain Taylor in Atlantic City, NJ on HBO last night.  It was one of the best fights for the Middleweight division for a very long time.  Kelly was knocked down in the 2nd round and looked like he was finished.  He got back into the fight after he survived the tough 2nd round.  They reached the 7th round and Pavlik got Taylor back into a corner and just landed everything he got in him. The ref stepped in and stopped the fight when Taylor drop to the floor.  What a night for Kelly and the city of Youngstown.  In the 80's, our city also produced world champions such as Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini, Jeff Lampkin and Harry Arroyo. Now, Kelly Pavlik can put his name on that list of World Champions!! smile smile

Re: Pavlik Crowned Middleweight Champion

Congrats to the fine city of Youngstown, Ohio. Not really into boxing anymore. I'm more into MMA and the UFC. I grew up in Sharon, Pa about 10 miles from Youngstown and remember going to the Tomorrow Club in Youngstown to see Roy Buchanan, Johnny Winter, BB King and a bunch more I can't recall. This was back in the late 70's so my memory is a little foggy to say the least.  Hey Dean, Remember the Agora Club?  Don't know how long you and Mellissa have lived there (Boardman) but just thought I'd ask.
Don said you guys are coming to Pittsburgh today for Jill West. We thought about going but I have a chance to work some OT today and can't pass it up.  Have a good time, it's a beautifull day here in the City of Champions.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world
Then ill, I'll meet you in the next one and don't be late, don't be late

Re: Pavlik Crowned Middleweight Champion

That was a cool fight, Michael.  Boxing has always been pretty popular around here; both Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and also Kelly Pavlik both lived/live within a couple of miles of my neighborhood, and both are very nice people from good families who believe in giving back to their community.  I have known & witnessed both to be involved with various youth-oriented activites.  Ray was a staple around here both in and out of the ring when I was a kid.  He regularly visited the schools and his brother, the late Lenny Mancini, was good friends with my brother back in the day.  Ray no longer lives in this area, but I just saw him at a coffee shop downtown a few months ago and he was as friendly as ever.

Jeff, Dean grew up in Boardman & I grew up in Youngstown, right across the street from where we live now.  I remember the Agora downtown, but it was called the Star Theater by the time I was of age & I saw my 3rd concert ever--George Thorogood & the Delaware Destroyers--there.  There was a steady stream of big or soon-to-be-big names there in the 70s, from Muddy Waters to Bruce Springsteen.  Jill West was primo yesterday, by the way.  The day was long on blues-rock, sunshine, and muscle cars-- can't ask for much more than that!  It would have been nice to see you, but sometimes work wins!

Well I wouldn't say work won, but I could sure use the extra cash right now. Missing Jill on such a lovely day sucked, but glad you guys made it. We went last year and yep the muscle cars were quite an attraction.  Di (wifey) still doesn't understand mans obsession for cool hot rods and probably never will. Dean you lucky guy, a hot wife who loves blues rock and muscle cars.  Did Don mention Eric Jerardi yesterday? I had asked him to talk to you guys about a copy of his cd/dvd.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world

Re: Pavlik Crowned Middleweight Champion

Hi, Jeff.  Don mentioned the Jerardi thing, so I will get on that.  It's always cool to go to cruises out of town, 'cause there's always something unfamiliar & interesting; an impeccably clean '72 GS that Don called my attention to was just one example.  Unfortunately, though, seeing it makes it difficult to continue to put my (unrestored) '72 GS convertible out of my mind!  I will not be in a position to attend to it for another year, so you know how money burns a hole in one's pocket?  This car is burning a hole in my mind!  For 7 1/2 years it's been looking at me from the corner of the garage, and it's gettin' really hard to not look back...

lol, Roy!!
