Topic: Yasi Hofer - one to watch

Last night I saw this 21-year-old German girl play her first ever gig with her own band. It was in a little local club, she was expecting just friends and family to show up but it was packed to the rafters. Seriously - what a talent. Steve Vai took her under his wing when she was 14 and has been supporting her burgeoning career.

She's just started singing as well (and she needs to work on that!) but her playing is just spectacular. Tagged as "Fusion Rock", it's in the Steve Vai/Jeff Beck mould and she also writes her own material. This is not actually my preferred kind of music (more of a bluesy kinda girl), but it was exciting to see such a big talent at the start of her career. She's the real deal.

Here she is jamming with Steve Vai when she was 14 and again last year:

I have to say I agree with GMac (she obviously has great taste in husbands, so I reckon she must know a thing or two... smile ). Last night was one of those gigs where you get a tingling up your spine and the realisation that you've just watched a truly great talent on stage. The local music mag called her one of the most gifted young musicians of her generation. I hope she finds the success she deserves.

Re: Yasi Hofer - one to watch

I just wanted to update these earlier posts. We saw Yasi doing a warm-up gig for her first public perfomance with her new band and I thought I'd post a video from that first official gig:

This girl has a real talent and while this kind of Steve Vai fusion sort of music is not really my thing, I still rate her as a guitarist. She's recently started branching out into other genres, such as Hendrix, and while her voice still needs some work, this kind of playing is sure to help widen her appeal. If you get chance to see her, check her out, I think you might be pleasantly surprised:
