Re: Dolby

My impression, from YouTube, DVD's, etc.  is JB gives 100 PLUS % of  himself, holds nothing back.  (The Beacon Theater concert from end of 2011 was the "best of the best" ... as good as it gets.  Keep watching it over & over. ) He's an exceptional  musician; however, the sinus infection - or whatever it was that night at Dolby - did affect that particular performance.  How could it not?  He's only human .  The fact that he went out and did the best he could ,despite his ailments, says as lot about him and his respect for his audience.  Not being critical or throwing stones, just stating a simple fact that that particular concert, including the entire band, in my opinion,  was not their usual top notch performance.

I caught that show as well, first live performance for me, and am relieved to hear that Joe WAS ill that evening , and it wasn't just my imagination.  I thought immediately that he was not his usual brilliant and energetic self.  Possibly end of a long tour exhaustion & sore throat. ??  Will keep on viewing his DVDs and wait for next performance here in LA.

I was at the Dolby theater show and got to go backstage and meet with Joe before the show. A friend was delivering a speaker for Joe. My wife and I bought Joe a bottle of wine, Heitz and hopefully he'll like it. What a great show and Joe had told us he was a bit under the weather that night; you couldn't tell by the show. Joe is a great guy and we talked about gear (guitar geekout) and he knows his stuff. He signed one of my JB Wah pedals for me and showed us his amps out on the stage. Loved the 2 Dumbles especially the new head & cab rig with the dumbleator & TC 2290 (RF rig). Joe's tone is so good and he just keeps getting better something that amazes me that someone at his level can still find ways to improve.

Re: Dolby

This song has never me cry or anything of the sort.  However, this version gave me something I have never felt from Mountain Time, goose bumps on my scalp (got some only on my arms momentarily at Joe Bonamassa at his second night of his first New York Beacon Theatre appearance, the one on the DVD)! They pulled the skin tight too and then spread down to my face, neck, and all the way to my elbows...Can't explain, but it sure felt strange, yet good!  Django once in the not so far distant past (Live From Nowhere In Particular show) gave me some goose bumps on goose bumps on the hairs on the back of my neck. Flashbacks better than the first time?! tongue big_smile

This one seemed especially good:

What else?!  The Ballad Of John Henry, one of my all time favorites. cool  Very cool

F=Twerp beside me had to yell out Yosemite during the quiet part (for the second time in the evening roll EDIT: THIRD time roll).  Wow.  mad Also conducted Chinese fire drills several times during show...I guess they thought they were in the Grauman/Mann's/TLC  (or whatever it is called today or tomorrow) Chinese Theater, and not the Dolby (as in noise reduction) Theatre... roll

Derek Sherinian turns in a heck of a solo!!! yikes big_smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7TgvK2CCVo
