Song lyrics

Hello all,

New to the site and to Joe's music.  Question regarding some lyrics.  Joe states in The Great Flood that the song is an apology to his ex-girlfriend.  Yet, in the song he states "you said you were receiving, oh I could tell it was a bunch of lies".  This doesn't sound like an apology to me.  And what was she receiving? Hmmm...
