Topic: New Cadillac commercial on TV

There is a new Cadillac commercial on TV, I heard it a few times recently.  It sounds like JOE!!

I couldn't find it on YouTube, but just hearing it playing in the background made me think of Joe.

Just wondering if anyone heard it or kinda' thought the same thing? wink

(Always admired the artists that don't license their songs out....but I imagine it's tough for an artist to say no nowadays.)

Tough? Yeah, especially the ones who have made millions upon same still roll needing to rake...they should play high stakes table games in Vegas (being a big loser or winner could stoke the dulling embers of their creative fires again) or a stage in Vegas instead...

Re: New Cadillac commercial on TV

Yes the first link, like Bridge, for sure.  The music made me walk to the TV, but I wasn't really watching the commercial. I will zone in next time. Would Shazam/ID the song with an iphone work?

And Stacy's Mom, just classic little song, I remember the video was real creative.  That song was popular when one of my sons was younger.

I don't think so.  I believe the song has to be the "original" recording to be recognized.  And whatever is in the commercial isn't Joe's original.

Yeah, I remember Shred's post.  And since then, I can't tell you how many times when I hear Dust Bowl I think this song belongs in a western...I envision Clint with a scrufty beard looking way cool with his cowboy hat dipped down to his eyes, riding his horse into a ghost town... wink

Re: New Cadillac commercial on TV

I don't recall any commercial insertions from as far back as"A New Day Yesterday," let alone Bloodline, maybe somebody could if there were.  I do recall a few from "So, It's Like That."  I specifically recall a few times "Sick In Love," although context and product escapes me.  More, I think, think, think...

Re: New Cadillac commercial on TV

There was a network series on Fox I believe centered around a school I believe. It had one of the American Idol contestants if my memory is correct. They played No Slack the original recording from SILT in a few scenes. Best I can remember maybe someone else can remember the name of the show.

I have heard the Cadillac commercial several times and it is Bridge riff. I'm sure if they change it enough it can be argued coincidence. I'm sure they know how to push the boundaries of legality on that unless they buy the use of the original recording. That is probably most commercial music is blues based since if the riff is used there would be no less than fifty different artists crying foul. The surprising thing is that they used something that I wold consider unique sounding instead of generic blues boogie.

I've heard a ZZ top riff or two used in the past.

Re: New Cadillac commercial on TV

I really heard it this weekend and you can so tell it is Bridge.   What a rip off.

Re: New Cadillac commercial on TV

just thought of a funny spoof commercial we could do, going along with the whole "it's mine" theme of the commercial and Joe pops in and says yeah but that riff is mine!

that's golden! (or goldie!)

Yup!

While to some it may seem as flattering that they "used" a song of Joe's, to me it's simply a ripoff. As Jim said it's changed just enough for them to use it. That might make it barely legal but it still doesn't make it right. Not to me anyways.

Hi Spider,
Props for the spoof ad idea goes to JaneH. I c/p'd her line in my reply. smile

It should be done...maybe in a BMW (vs Caddy) ad? smile
