Topic: What the hey?

I was just watching Joe on tv HDTV, worldcafelive and I was really inspired.   I live in Virginia Beach, VA...I have loved the blues/blues rock for many years and there is no real blues around here.  I have tried unsucessfully many times to get some blues bands going around here...but there is no real interest, I haven't even played my guitars in over a month I am so uninspired by no one wanting to play blues in Hampton Roads Virginia....so I watch Joe on tv and get inspired...pumped up, go to his website click on some songs...and Sell out man.  I hear a few minutes of the three songs combined and it sounds like top 40 pop...wtf?

I saw the same thing happen with Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Johnny Lang...they sell out and start playing mushy ballads or pop...

I closed out those other songs and I am listening to Blus Deluxe!

I agree. That is a poor choice of songs to represent Joe. I would have kept on surfing if I didn't know he had much better songs.

Blues ain't nothin' but a good woman gone bad.

Re: What the hey?

Am I missing something, or did you just call Joe a "sell out?"

I would like to clarify that I agreed that the songs picked do sound like top 40; not that Joe is a sell-out. Though the CD that those songs are from is definitely more commercial than his other ones.

Sounds like you listened to the three clips from So It's Like That (Unbroken, No Slack and Waiting for Me), which was released in 2002. There are a lot of fans that will tell you this is their favorite cd. I think it's a bit  more mainstream than Joe's other stuff, but I certainly wouldn't call it "top 40 pop".
If you went down a bit further in the multimedia stuff, you'd find clips from A New Day Yesterday and a video of Joe performing If Heartaches Were Nickels. I recommend listening to those.
Then you should add some of Joe's newer stuff (Had to Cry Today and You & Me) to your Blues Deluxe collection.

I guess I hadn't thought of it because I haven't visited the multi-media area for awhile, but is it time to update the website to include some of Joe's more current song clips???

Re: What the hey?

Hi,

Thanks for the link to other songs.
Here's a link to world cafe...the show I watched Joe on:
http://worldcafelive.com/

I watched him on tv on world cafe live on HDTV, it was pretty cool and got me inspired again.  Which, like I said, I sort of need living around here.  I am from Virginia Beach, VA, but have moved all over the country and no one is really into blues around here, it's mostly classic rock, beach music, metal or country...every band playing the same thing.  I've tried for years to get some blues blues/rock bands going in Virginia Beach and it never works, no real interest...most people here don't even know what blues is.  Oh well...I guess my main thing is not to sell all my guitars and keep trying!

Thanks,

Chuck
