Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

After watching The Borderline disc a third time I must go back and add I know where I belong.

So let's see that would be  Blues Deluxe, Spanish Boots,  and I know where I belong.  I need to stop watching this so I can just stick with one favorite tongue

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

After giving this some thought and watching all the DVD's multiple times, I came to the conclusion that my favorite disc is whichever 1 is playing at that time! Love 'em all! Favorite tune however is still Blues Delux from Borderline.

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

Just gonna bump this to add "Chains and Things"!
Easily one of the best blues songs I've ever heard smile

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

It's impossible to pick favorites, so I'll just mention a couple from Shepherd's Bush that I've been repeating the past few days:

1. The Great Flood: Gives me chills and leaves me in tears.  Every time.
2. The Ballad of John Henry: Pure Shock and Awe.  Jaw, meet floor.  And get used to being down there. smile

What a gift these shows are.

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

I really enjoyed the whole thing but I would have to pick Hammersmith - Apollo Dislocated Boy as #1.

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

Favorite show?  Hammersmith - it just rocks!

Favorite Tracks?
    Borderline
Are You Experienced - Pain & Sorrow - Happier Times - I Know Where I Belong

Shep Bush
So It's Like That - Chains and Things - Dust Bowl - Asking Around F Y

Hammersmith
Dislocated Boy - Driving toward the Daylight - John Henry - Sloe Gin

RAH (I like this show better than the 2009 RAH disc)
Last Kiss - Happier Times - Mountain Time - Just Got Paid

and, yes I would bu cds of these shows - or at least I would like to download tunes from them.

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

I have watched all multiple times and I think Borderline is my favorite over all and Blues Deluxe edging out I Know Where I belong.  Second overall has to be Royal Albert Hall.   Joe is so masterful.  Love every song on this one.

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

Been hanging back on this purely because I keep changing my mind. The disc getting the most play (tend to try to play along to it most) is Shepherds Bush. Favourite track tends to return to Borderline and Blues Deluxe also, by far my favourite version. As a full disc to just listen to Hammersmith and Albert Hall a dead heat IMHO. Problem is, all this will probably change next week which only goes to show what a great collection of music it is and what geat value for money Joe provides on a regular basis. big_smile

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

I have all four blu-rays.  So far, I've watched them all on my 60" with DTS surround cranked, including parts of RAH and Borderline multiple times.

It's a hard choice, but my favorite single-song performance overall has to be Tea for One from the HA disk.

I'd rate each of the volumes overall as follows:

1) RAH
2) Borderline
3) Hammersmith Apollo
4) Shepherds Bush

It's really close though, and all four are *excellent*.

After many views and much deliberation, I have made up my mind:
I refuse to participate.
This is like asking someone to pick their favorite child.
I just can't do it.

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

I'd say my favorite track is driving towards the daylight off the hammersmith disc. I dug the tele and liked the organ solo a lot. I also really like stop! off of the shepherds bush show.

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

Ok, I have now watched and listened to these shows many times...loads of great songs, but there are two songs that have gotten more play time than any others.
My #1 is a popular pick here: Chain & Things
I don't think anyone has picked my #2: So It's Like That

"Rock ON & Keep the Faith"

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

OK, updating my original picks a few months back

Favorite show is still Hammersmith. It's become my favorite Joe show.

Favorite version of Happier Times is by the Borderline trio (I would never have guessed that the 3 piece would be my favorite)

Of Joe's classics, done at one concert - John Henry, Slow Gin, Lonesome Road Blues & Just got paid I love the Hammersmith show.

and, Shep Bush makes me appreciate horns in blues music. I love Last Kiss, Lonesome Road and John Henry from that show.
