Topic: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Not sure if anyone's heard, but they announced the inductees into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame for next year. Kiss, Nirvana, Peter Gabriel, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, and Hall & Oates will be inducted. I'm glad that Kiss is finally getting in after 15 years of elgibility!! Nirvana could've waited a few years to get in I think. I wish Deep Purple would've gotten in as well. What are your thoughts?

Re: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

I think Nirvana deserved to be a first ballot inductee.  The completely changed the face of music in the 90's, and their impact is still being felt today.  Their influence cannot be overstated.  They were the face of alternative rock.

DP deserves to be there too, but there was no way they were going to elect 2 bands from what the R&RHOF considers to be the same genre.

I try to completely ignore the rest of the inductee madness every year.  The R&RHOF is a joke.

Gibson 60th Anniversary 1959 Les Paul Reissue, Gibson LP Standard Faded CSB, Gibson Gary Moore LP Standard, Epi Joe Bonamassa GT LP, Epi Zakk Wylde LP, Dean Michael Schenker Flying V, Jackson Randy Rhoads V, ESP/LTD George Lynch Kamikaze, EVH Striped Series R/B/W, Fender/Squire John 5 Telecaster, Fender Joe Strummer Relic Telecaster

Re: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

All of these artists have their merits.Linda Ronstadt was one of the first country rock pop crossover artists and a good one..."You're no Good" still my fave.....Kiss is one of the worst best rock bands ever...know what I mean? Not great songwriters and not great musicians, but a good gimmick goes a long way...and for pure marketing genius, they deserve to be in the hall....but I'm glad they made "em wait this long !! Nirvana...total no brainer...literally the voice of a generation,,,"Smells like teen Spirit" is on par with the greatest of all rock tunes ever..period. I can't wait to see Dave accept this award...and remind us all how great Kurt Cobain was. Peter Gabriel...very accomplished. Hall & Oates....Great 80's 90's pop band with a soul twist... tons of hits...talented, polished, but a bit shallow.....darn...now I can't get "Private Eyes" out of my head...anyway...Cat Stevens...never a huge fan, but you know...great for the folk hippie set...Didn't he change his name to Yusaf Islam or something? Whatever......and...yes...if Deep Purple is still not in the hall...then Kiss shouldn't be either....They are disrupting the natural order of things!!

It is what it is, and for once at least some real talent storms in.  Not an undeserving entry at all this year in my opinion.  And, I DO take severe umbrage at calling Hall & Oates "a bit shallow," Murf mad lol That would be like me calling Nirvana overrated. lol Just kidding around with ya Murfdog, but I do love them, big time, and remember, the most successful duet in recording history...They Rock!  I like that you say Deep Purple should precede Kiss.  "They" are (trying to disrupt) the natural order of things...face it, they did that a long time ago... yikes mad roll  Whatya expect, it's Cleveland! Re: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

I've quit trying to analyze and criticize R&RHOF, it's a waste of time. Correct, all there is driven by the mighty dollar. I am very sad that Linda has said she cannot travel and will not make the trip. What a standing O that could have been!

Re: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

The rrhof is a complete joke.  There is no real voting to get in as all inductees are picked by jan wenner and many(you know which ones I'm talking about) have NOTHING to do with R&R but are inducted to draw PAYING IDIOTS to spend their money there.

That being said....

....One of my favorite BluRays is The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concerts:

On October 29th and 30th, 2009, rock 'n' roll royalty held court at Madison Square Garden for what have been called 'the best concerts ever,' where 'rock 'n' roll history was made.' Recorded live with 30 camera angles plus state-of-the-art recording, we captured the sights and sounds from these electrifying and historic concerts in New York City.
Now, this critically-acclaimed and highly-rated HBO special is available on Blu-ray for the very first time! 'THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME CONCERTS' features all 51 performances from the acclaimed HBO special, plus 16 performances not seen on HBO, all in a 2-disc Blu-ray set.
In celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, the concerts featured a who's who of rock from the '50s to the '90s and included artists performing together in unique combinations that will most likely never be witnessed again.
Highlights include:
-Mick Jagger and Fergie in a blistering version of the Stones' classic 'Gimme Shelter,' with U2 as the backing band.
-Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel on-stage for a rollicking rendition of 'Born to Run.'
-Sting joins Jeff Beck for the Curtis Mayfeld classic 'People Get Ready.'
-Paul Simon, David Crosby and Graham Nash join together for a spine-tingling 'Here Comes the Sun.'
-Ozzy Osbourne sings with Metallica on the Black Sabbath classics 'Iron Man' and 'Paranoid.'
-John Fogerty & Bruce Springsteen share vocals on Roy Orbison's 'Oh, Pretty Woman.'
-Plus Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Simon & Garfunkel, U2, Dion, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor, John Legend, Annie Lennox, Smokey Robinson, B.B. King, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Jackson Browne and more.

If you look up to the heavens just before the start of every Joe Bonamasaa concert you can see Stevie, Jimi, Muddy, Gary and others leaning over God’s railing jockeying for the best view.
And if you listen, you can hear Stevie say  “ SHHhhhh,  The kids about to start playing.”

Re: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

A complete corporate joke!  No to YES and Deep Purple?

Let me see KISS, Public Enemy, etc, etc, etc.....enough said.

Re: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

I wouldn't mind the Rock HOF so much if they would just stick to inducting rock acts. It's not the pop music hall of fame or the soul music hall of fame, it's the ROCK hall of fame. Madonna is in and Deep Purple is out. That's what irritates me so much. We can debate Deep Purple vs Yes getting in, that's ok - apples to apples. But when the vegetable HOF inducts fruits - or vice versa - that's what I don't get.

Re: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

I agree that their voting priorities have been a bit warped in the past, trying to be everything to everybody resulting in some questionable choices through the years. Save for one that I assume is a rap group, they did pretty well this year in voting in Cheap Trick, Chicago, Deep Purple, and Steve Miller. DP and Steve should have been inducted a long, long time ago. Really glad that they got to Steve while he is still alive.

Re: Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Hooray for Stevie "Guitar" Miller finally getting inducted into the HOF! I got into Steve's music in '68 when Children of the Future and Sailor came out. In '69 I saw him live for the first time at The Fillmore West and can't even count how many of his gigs I've attended since then. I've heard his style morph from Blues/Bluesrock, to Top 40 Rock chart toppers and back around to more blues infused material in the past 10 years or so. Regardless of what is on the setlist he's a great picker and belongs in the HOF! Congrats Steve!!!

That's the crux of the biscuit right there.  If you look at the history of inductees, going back to the very beginning, it has always been a pop music hall of fame.  It's not what the name says, but it's what it is.  I think there'd be a lot less confusion and bad feelings if they just changed the name, which of course will never happen.
