Topic: Reno Will Be "Bonamassafied"

Hi Everyone, I am new to the forum.  I live in Montana and will be going through frozen hell to spend my first evening with Joe and friends. I was wondering if any other JB fans on the forum are planning on attending this show December 7th?  I am very familiar with Reno/Sparks area and can't think of a better place or way to spend Pearl Harbor Day! Meet up at one of the hundreds of super cool spots in Reno before and after the show??

Re: Reno Will Be "Bonamassafied"

I'm not going to Reno this year ( I'll be in Oakland the night before) but you'll love the show!
Welcome to the forum and post more about yourself in the "Introductions" section. I'm particularly interested in where on the Madison you live as it's one of my favorite rivers to fish and I also named my daughter after it! Love, love, love Montana!

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Welcome DBTMR!    You have the frozen Hell right as we are cold by our standards around here!   I am back from a trip to Harrison Idaho just in time for the concert.   We took a room at Circus Circus, reasonable and close to the venue.

How are you familiar with Reno area?

Have you been listening to Joe for a long time?   Welcome to the forum, you will find the best of the best around here.  Folks are welcoming and very helpful and knowledgeable.

Try a post in the Introductions, for a larger welcome.  You will enjoy your time in the Forum and your first Joe Live experience will be AMAZING!!!

Re: Reno Will Be "Bonamassafied"

Hello To You All,
We made it to Reno Thursday evening, and glad to get out of the deep freeze!  My Yorkie and I flew from Bozeman through Mormonville to Reno. Met several people at Smith's who are going to the show. One great guy I bumped into named Jeff said "Just bring Sparky over... he can stay inside with our two dogs while we are at the show". You are so right...Reno folks are very friendly and laid back. Totally refreshing change from the occasional "I am from Montana...Go Home" cold shoulder attitude that seems to prevail up there, you will have to forgive us when you visit. I suppose they/we are all hiding from reality, civilization and want everything wonderful to ourselvs. Maybe our brains are frozen...minus -25* below Zero last night. I wonder if JB has ever been up in our neck of the woods? I would imagine he probably has.
As for the Madison River, it begins as several tiny mountain springs in Yellowstone National Park. These flows then join to form the Gibbon River, a wonderful and beautiful little trout stream with amazing waterfalls. This stream then joins with the famous Firehole River into which Old Faithful Geyser water flows, along with 80% of the world's warm geyser water thus adding to the flow. The Madison River leaves Yellowstone and enters the first of two lakes, one man made and the second natuarly formed by an giant earthquake. The result is 100 miles of a rampaging western river full of big boulders and wild rainbow and brown trout...some so huge...they bend your mind as well as your flyrod when hooked. Hooking these fish isn't too difficult on a fly, landing one...well that is an entirlely different matter. Amazing country, harsh but intense.  Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.
I do love Reno/Sparks/Tahoe and the people, visiting off and on since 93. I remember when the Silver Legacy was brand new. Can't wait to get to the show Saturday night! So far I have watched every JB Blu Ray including the Tour De Force over and over.... also that kik-ass High Voltage 2010 segement on Palladia "Just Got Paid with the Flying V and the Theramin Device. I love that performance so much!
This will be our first live JB show and it won't be the last, judging from the spring 2014 Tour Dates.  Section 2 , row 10 #5-6 with my buddy from Lander Wyoming who is "Driving Towards Daylight" on a 1400 mile round trip. Hope we get to meet up with some you while here. This is like a dream coming true!
                                         Thanks For The Warm Welcome,
                                                       Sparky n Me

Re: Reno Will Be "Bonamassafied"

Hay Sparky and Co!  Just up to check the fire, (I heat with wood only) and check the Weather Service report.  So far the storm is coming in warmer than first predicted, but the bulk of the wind and snow will be here friday midnight thru 10 AM Sat.

I am still in hopes that the show will go on and both Joe and I can make it to the 5:30 PM Meet & Greet.  I have been working on a special gift for Joe and was so excited to be able to get the Meet& Greet opportunity!

So glad you have made it to Reno and are meeting Bona-Buddies already!
We have booked a room at Circus Circus, are you all hanging out anywhere special before the show?

Try getting those hard to land fish into Joe's music and I bet they will just leap up onto the bank for you!

Enjoy the Forum, so many great folks here, all with unique Joe stories but the common theme is, once you start this journey with Joe, it just gets better and BETTER!!

Re: Reno Will Be "Bonamassafied"

I hope you all have the time of your life tonight.    I saw on Twitter that Joe got to visit his niece in the Bay Area with the delay, so with the extra rest and family enjoyment to energize him, tonight should be out of this world!

I hope you will post about it!

ENJOY!  ENJOY!! ENJOY!!!

Re: Reno Will Be "Bonamassafied"

Well we have witnessed the man and the talent of the entire band before our very eyes. I am almost spechless and can hardly believe that what just happened truly did. Every bit of effort, planning, risk, travel and money was well worth the trouble. Refreshing to say the least to attend a rare "sit down" concert. The man and his band possess the ability to silence an entire auditorium to the point of hearing a pin drop and cast a spell upon thousands. We were for the lack of a better word...placed into a trance. Time stopped and the rest of the world ceased to exist for a short time.
The setlist was perfect and the performance was flawless. Watching Joe open for Joe made the evening even more special.
Midnight Blues, Slo Gin, The Ballad of John Henry, Driving Towards The Daylight ....many others along with the Theramin Device and the finale of finales, Mountain Time. A night to never forget and place into the  very special file of countless live performances I have attended over my lifetime.
Sparky attended the concert with us and was loved and drew alot of attention on row 10. He had a great time and everyone around us was wonderful and felt like brothers and sisters. The smell of sweetleaf permeated the air and everyone was mesmerized and on their best behavior. Thanks Joe and the band , thanks Reno for making us feel welcome.
Hope to meet some of you someday....on this side or the other,

Thanks Downbythemadisonriver, that's a review as refreshing and tasty as a sip of water from a Montana tributary... wink

I agree John N Sparky it was a wonderful time for us also. We drove into Reno after getting locked out of our pickup truck (cellphones inside) in the middle of nowhere in frigid weather. My husband hauled off and broke the window so we could get inside. He said "I'm sorry babe, I ruined our weekend," I said no we are going anyway. We drove 40 miles with the broken window before we could get plastic and duct tape and rolled into Reno looking like the worst kind of ranch pickup, lol. That Reno weather was brutal, but the show was so awesome, I'm looking forward to going again soon. I loved Slow Train, it freaked me out and Midnight Blues. Got my JB coffee mug, life is good.
