I've not been to as many shows this year as I would normally attend, but still managed a few humdingers. These are some of my standouts.

The full Tour de Force - For me I doubt The Borderline show will be bettered for a long time
Bonnie Raitt at my local theatre where the sound was probably the best I've ever heard.
Tedeschi Trucks Band at the RAH
Ryan McGarvey at Chiselhurst
Simon McBride at The Borderline
Royal Southern Brotherhood at the Chelsea FC nightclub

As a big Mule fan their gig in London on 4th July didn't do it for me this year. Maybe it's because I was at the back (keeping Mrs W company) whereas (as many of you will know) there's usually no one between me and the stage.

Although these gigs were superb, what makes them standout for me is sharing them with my like minded buddies from the Forum. I've made some wonderful friendships with Forum members and meeting up with them at shows, especially Joe shows, makes them extra special. Here's to more of the same in 2014, even if I don't get to one of Joe's performances.

Same here. A good spread of international touring acts and local artists and big and small venues

Robert Plant w. Sensational Space Shifters - Sydney Entertainment Centre
Glenn Hughes (sorry to the haters, his solo acoustic version of 'Cold' was probably the best song I saw performed live this year) - The Basement (about 400 capacity), Sydney
Jimmy Barnes, Baby Animals, Ian Moss and others - Kryal Castle (outdoor event, about an hour from Melbourne)
The Delta Riggs - (my fave new band - best of 5 times I saw them in 2013, just before their first foray to USA!) The Standard (400 cap.), Sydney
Thin Lizzy - Panthers Club, Penrith, Sydney (600 cap. - sideshow to tour opening for KISS and Motley Crue

Can't forget Deep Purple, Journey, Pink, The Stooges, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Deap Vally, Deniz Tek (my personal hero) x2, the other 4 times I saw Baby Animals, a wonderful hippy indy duo I stumbled across called The Firetree (just goes on...)

2014 is already going to include The Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band (first time for me) and QOTSA (also first time)

Well, 2013 isn't over yet so there's still time for me to mention The Hoax gig last night at The Borderline. What a superb Blues band they are and a definite must see if they come anywhere near your town. Five superb musicians, including Hugh Coltman, who has one of the finest voices you'll hear anywhere. Check out Pete's videos on the Big City Blues thread for a taster.

Most of my London gig buddies were there so it was great way to finish the year with Pete, Maggie, Lydia, Tricia, Roger, Eldo and Kenny's little sister, Marlene. A fab night all round.

There has been such a lot of great gigs this year so this is difficult. I will have to go for a joint best then a top ten below that but only in time date order. And not selecting the same artist twice.

we missed you down the front Phil, - and sorry to say that it was a superb Mule performance, - “Rockin’ In The Free World” with Reeves Gabrels goes down as one of my favourite live performances of all time, - I have watched Pete’s film of it a few times as it gets across Warren’s ability to play something simple so well.

The other stand out performance was Joe and Beth and Hampton Court, partly because of the setting and also down to the friend who got me there.

Joe, Albert Hall and SBE goes without saying, but the other gig that can not be forgotten is the Rival Son’s at Shepherds Bush, - that feeling of seeing a band on the verge of a break through, still new enough to look fresh and enthused about what is ahead for them, yet the musical talent and stage craft of veterans.
