Topic: Oakland Baby!!

Finally scored a pair a PBS tix from my best bud's sister-in-law who can't make the show. Hot Damn! I've been searching and searching for awhile now trying to get a pair and there was NO WAY I was going to to pay one of those shyster broker sites! Then to top my day, I also scored a pair of salmon prints from a shop in S.F. that originally retailed for $175 & $200, but because my boss does alot of biz with him, I got them both for $40! Man, life is good! Today anyway.
So who all is going to Oakland and is there a pre-show meet?

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Scored a pair a while back, Laurie and I will either fly both ways or also considering the Coast Starlight from Tacoma, WA on 12/5 and arriving the morning of the 6th, and then fly Alaska Air back to SEA on Saturday.   Might be kind of cool to take the train down and try out the "roomette" compartment .....  :-)   Either way, it will be a good time in Oakland!   Any pre-event refreshment sessions being planned at a nearby establishment?

Well.... There's Luka's about a block away where everyone went last time but it sure was crowded. There's also a place about another block away called Plum that got decent reviews although may be a bit pricier. I'm game for anything. Maybe this time I might get to actually meet y'all face to face!

We got the Coast Starlight reserved , arrives 8:35 Friday morning, staying near the venue that night and flying back to Seattle Saturday on an Alaska flight leaving about 12:40.   If someone with local knowledge lines up a place for pre-show, we'll be there - be fun to meet Kat and other names I recognize from prior pilgrimages!  Oh man, your friend getting their first live JB - a life changing experience :-)

Where are you staying? I haven't made a hotel resy yet and company walking late in Oakland is a good thing. We're driving up leaving Thursday with a stopover along the way. My night vision isn't the best and the wifes is worse so we will just be moseying on down the road. We are up for any local spot too.

RickB, looks like we will be at either the Marriott Downtown or else the Marriott Courtyard right next door.   Wifey will make the call tomorrow.   Both are ~10 blocks down Broadway from the venue.   I see a brewpub, Pacific Coast Brewing, located just a block over on Washington..... http://www.pacificcoastbrewing.com.     Looks like this might do the job just fine!

I haven't made a "resy" yet either and traveling/walking in numbers sounds like a smart thing to do. I had my eye on one of the Marriotts, looked like a 10-15 minute walk, not bad.

Only a week to go! Any decisions about where to meet up? I'd make the choice, but I always seem to pick places that sound or look better than they actually are!

My friend from Pleasanton and his wife grabbed tickets, we are meeting for dinner before the show at Luka's right near the venue.   Typing from the parlor car of the Coast Starlight as the sun sets, southbound past Eugene.  Oh yeah.

Ok. Looks like Luka's is it. Somebody should put up a sign in the restaurant so we know who's who. You know, something like "Bonafans Here!" !

Word to the wise, when the bill comes check with the server to see if they've included the gratuity already. They screwed us on this the last time. Take a cab to and from your hotels it's cheaper than parking and a helluva lot safer. This isn't Mayberry, it's Oakland at night!!!
