Topic: Fox Theater in Atlanta

From the first time I saw Joe in 2009 at the little Center Stage Theater downtown Atlanta, I hoped he would one day play the Fabulous Fox Theater.  It will be two epic shows Friday and Saturday night.  Will be sacrificing three "Bonavirgins" including my next door neighbor and his wife, and our Music Minister from church.

Re: Fox Theater in Atlanta

Nice!! This will be my wife and my fourth show and like you, have always wanted Joe to play the Fox because it is an excellent sounding venue. We've seen him in Savannah at Johnny Mercer Audatorium, Cobb Energy in Atlanta, and The River Center in Columbus, GA.

This will be my younger brother's first show so another "Bonavirgin" gets "Bonabaptised" on Friday night. I had second row pit seats but threw them back, thinking we would have to look straight up all night, and got first row orchestra. Now I am sort of kicking myself. We had front row at The River Center and now are spoiled. I could count the shoelaces on Joe's purple Converses!

Are you going to both shows? Wow!

Re: Fox Theater in Atlanta

review please afterwards? I saw Kansas with Steve Morse there on one of their reunion tours in the late 80's, thought the sound was very good. Hope you have a great time.

Re: Fox Theater in Atlanta

Being from Atlanta originally, we have been to the Fabulous Fox Theater many times.  Saw some great concerts and musicals too.  Back in the mid 70's it was destined to be destroyed but the community rallied and raised money to restore it to it's former glory from the 20's.  The sound is really good there and it is going to be incredible to see Joe play there.

This is a far cry from Smith's Old Bar and some club in Decatur where we saw him in 2006.  The Center Stage shows were great, loved that venue and the Cobb Energy is a cool venue.  But the Fox is the premiere place to play!  Can't wait...

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Fox Theater in Atlanta

So glad he is playing such a historic venue.  I look forward to your reviews.   These
Grand Old halls are the perfect backdrop for Joe.

Cobb Energy was a cool venue, the sound was excellent and it reminded me of the Fox, right down to the red velvet curtains.
Joe joked about climbing steps with his gear at Smith's Old Bar when he played there and about every road named Peachtree.

Re: Fox Theater in Atlanta

I had the pleasure of attending Joe's show at The Fox Theater last night.  What a show!  The Acoustic Session was amazing and the Electric was out of this world.

Can't wait to see him again.  It was great, and as an aspiring guitar player, a lesson and an inspiration.

A must see!

I have to let my daughter know that!!  She loves purple and she loves Converse!  And, at 16, she is even a small "f" fan of Joe's also.  We are both aspiring guitar players as well.  I think that if I can get her to try some of Joe's material, or even some good jammin' blues, she might get into Joe even more.

From all I have learned here The Fox sounds like a sweet spot to see Joe.  A little far for me but I think I'll put it on my list of venues for the future.

Re: Fox Theater in Atlanta

I saw Joe at Center Stage several years ago in a fantastic show that left my college-age daughters in awe. They are now big fans and have been with me to 6 or 7 shows in the southeast since. We went to both shows in the Fox this weekend. They were terrific. Great musicianship, great energy, and great interaction with the audience. My youngest said this morning that she was a little disappointed that there wasn't ANOTHER Joe show to go to this weekend.

Welcome! Thanks for the update from Atlanta, cool about going to the shows with your daughters smile And I agree with your youngest seeing Joe live always leaves you wanting another. I just saw him a few weeks ago, have tickets for 2 shows in the Spring and already wondering what is the Fall schedule going to look like and that's a year away!

Re: Fox Theater in Atlanta

My wife and I attended the Saturday evening show. The "acoustic" set was 45 min followed by a 15 min break. Joe said they were going to take 15 min and then "plug in the electric guitars". Plug in they did! The second set was 1hr 45 min followed by a short break and then an encore with "Mountain Time". An outstanding evening of music. My first visit to the Fox, definitely a cool place to see a show. At one point, when Joe was introducing the musicians, he introduced Derek and said you might know him from Black Country Communion. The crowd cheered and Joe said "stop, you didn't buy those ******* records, they only sold seven copies". Still some bad blood there, me thinks.

More sarchasm methinks. Joe has spent so much time over here he now gets and uses sarchasm more and more. Trouble is, as I have found to my cost, a lot of Americans don't get it. I spend a lot of my time having to explain myself which rather ruins the point of the humour in the first place. lol

Heck he's from NY...the sarchasm capital of the world!

My son, soon to be daughter in-law, wife and I caught the 11/23 show as well...and Joe was great!  Awesome acoustic set, then  he absolutely rocked the electric set.  He seemed very appreciative of the great turnout both nights.  His bus repo must have been quite the ordeal, although you would never now it based on the great show Joe and the band put on.

Bus repo???????????? I've read some hints that last week may have been one of Joe's most unusual weeks since he started touring...I heard about the fire alarm interuption...What is the deal with the bus repo???????????

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me...and, I'm feelin good

Yep, Joe said they walked out of their hotel Saturday morning to find that their bus and whatever gear was in it had been repo'd.  Joked that they would likely be on a future episode of the repo show.

Re: Fox Theater in Atlanta

If you have twitter, check out some of Joe's tweets about the bus.  Said he paid the bus  rental company but they did not pay the seller of the bus.  all fixed and now they have a new bus.

Joe probably got confused with the story because it's the same basic story he tells about venues he played X years ago when they were still touring bars/small clubs.

"When I was last here, I played the XXXX place. "
crowd cheers
"Stop, you weren't @#$%$ there since there was only empty seats (or crickets chirping, etc)"

Sometimes sarcastic humour doesn't transmit well.

We all know BCC sold more than 7 copies.

He didn't get confused about what Joe said...but I don't think there was any "bad blood" related to what he said.  He was just joking because he got an unexpectedly strong response from the crowd when BCC was mentioned.  Nothing more than sarchastic humor on his part.
