Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

I was really surprised. I thought Borderline would be my fave but after watching all I think  Hammersmith is the best(just love the arrangements of the songs). That being said I'm a little bit Joe DVD "all set for now". A lot of these songs were re-done with not much change. This is not a complaint but I will need to see a much different set list to buy another DVD. Still think that RAH and Vienna blow any of these away because of that fact!! Just an idea Joe how about a DVD of a certain CD(anyone take your pick) played from the start!! Maybe DTTD or Blues Deluxe-just a thought but what the hell do I know!!

Dont need a helmet to get me through life-walk across the water blame it on foolish pride.

Wow...After repeated viewings, I must admit...Borderline is my favorite show....I already mentioned how much I dug "Pain and Sorrow", but the stripped down " Happier Times"...the solo at the end of " Miss You..", and, of course a 12 minute "Don't burn down that bridge"...pretty excellent...OH...and one more thought.....ANTON FIG !!

Well I thought Blues Deluxe from the Borderline but I've been watching Hammersmith tonight and i've just been blown away by this newer version of Dislocated Boy (which was really never a favorite) and Tea For One.

Borderline - Blues Deluxe
Shepherd's Bush - basically all of it - the perfect set - great to see You Better Watch Yourself and Chains & Things included
Hammersmith - Tea For One - head and shoulders above the rest
Albert Hall - Last Kiss/Midnight Blues/Happier Times/Mountain Time

Easy for me!  Blues deluxe. This is the song that turned my head when I saw Joe live the first time.  This version just epic.  Edit to add around the bend. Perfection!

Agreed and agreed. BD and ATB are just fantastic.
The version of BD may be the best lead guitar performace ever captured on film! YES - it's THAT good!!

I agree, the hammersmith is my fav show out of the 4, but they are all fantastic. But for me, the ultimate joe album/live show/dvd is the first royal albert hall from 2009. this is the first album i ever heard by joe, the first cd/dvd i bought by him, and it's still my fav, this is not to say these 4 dvds are not amazing, these on there own are simply incredible and i have watched them all numerous times since their release.

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

I'm reviewing Hammersmith again tonight....."Tea for one" definitely my favorite on that disc so far...

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

I was just having a quick look through the entries for this, and though only a small number of people have replied so far, there are some songs that have been mentioned repeatedly, so I did a quick add up to see which the favourites were. I did this quickly and didn't do anything clever like add weightings for first and second choices, etc, so don't scream at me if you think I've got the calculations wrong or missed something (I also added in my wife's choices, which she hasn't posted, and a couple of my own choices from Shepherd's Bush, because I didn't specify anything the first time round). Based on this very quick calculation, there are 18 songs that have so far had more than one vote, which is about the size of a typical Joe setlist. So if he were to play a set based on these favourites, it would look like this (in order of popularity, with the second half of the list basically getting a couple of votes each):

Blues Deluxe
Dislocated Boy
Chains and Things
Pain and Sorrow
Tea for One
Just got Paid
I know Where I Belong
Around the Bend
The Great Flood
Miss You Hate You
Stop
Athens to Athens
Asking Around for You
Last Kiss
John Henry
So Many Roads
Happier Times

Does this tell us anything? I'm not really sure to be honest, I'll leave that for others to decide - but it's interesting that the two songs that are the most requested at Joe's gigs - Sloe Gin and Mountain Time - haven't received a single vote so far...

I am down to needing to watch Tour de Force, Royal Albert Hall (II), so I am not ready yet, we shall see, maybe roll ( yikes I pre-gulp thinking I also may not be able to abide with just one song, let alone be able to figure out favorite for which full performance, either)...liking too many along the way... cool

I'm glad somebody got my tongue in cheek selections.
I'm not ready to select a single performance just yet...but there are a few front runners.

Ooops, sorry murfdog, I didn't mean to steal your thunder - just always happy to find an excuse to avoid doing any actual paid work...

BTW, I'd pay good money to see THAT particular set...!

Okay, so after multiple viewings of all shows...I am now more confused than ever....All the shows are great and I've decided I love that " Athens to Athens" from RAH...Very cool with the plethora of different instrumentation...Isn't Lenny excellent?

Re: Best or Favorite performance from "Tour de Force" ?

Lenny is so great! They all are actually! It was cool to see Lenny with the whole band the entire show when I saw Joe a couple weeks ago. He looks like he has a blast up there!
