Topic: Blues Splash at Holmfirth
Fantastic day out and brilliantly organised.
Mitch Laddie opened at around 5:00pm with a blistering 30 min set that went down a storm. Federal Charm rocked the house and their version of 'Radar Love' had everybody singing and dancing.
Then Ben Poole, who is a real talent. A 3 piece like Mitch, but a more mature and professional performer.
Each act was different and getting better.
Hadn't seen Virgil ATA before and was a little disappointed. Their sound was a bit mushy and they didn't really win over the crowd as did all the other acts.
The gasps of shock when Walter Trout came on stage were as loud as the music !! We knew he had not been well, but he looks like he has lost 50% of his body weight. He looked very ill and spent 3/4 of the show playing sitting down. That makes his performance all the more remarkable. He was absolutely outstanding. The crowd went berserk and he tore the roof of the place. Hopefully his recovery will continue and he will come back stronger next year. But if not, my lasting memory will be of this show.
Couple all this with huge quantities of Ale, a few rounds of 'snooker shots', an excellent Burger in a local bar and an open-air chinese takeaway at midnight after the show made for a really wonderful day.
Roll on next year !!
