Topic: Hello, all, I'm new here!

Last  night, November 5th, was a milestone night for me:  my first Joe Bonamassa show at the Louisville Palace.  I have tickets for another one in April.  I will never miss another JB show if I can help it!   It was nice to see that Joe is loved by people of all ages!  I'm really, truly humbled by this experience.  I've had the pleasure of being at a lot of shows over my years, seeing many greats...  but Joe Bonamassa is a true genius.  It was a life-changing experience. I posted on FB during the break that I could die happy (almost) because I had witnessed his acoustic performances live and in the flesh.  But oh my, the second set blew me away even more!  Wow!

OK, wait, this is my introduction... sorry!  Joe gushing can come later!  I am from Bloomington, IN, teach at IU and I'm a relatively new Joe fan.  Thanks to Spotify, I discovered An Acoustic Evening just before or as it was released.  I bought the blu-ray and  then bought 3 DVDs to give to friends (including my guitar teacher!) who was blown away (he was a doctoral student at IU training in classical performance). My connection with Joe's music was immediate and irreversible. Another fun fact: Joe will feature prominently in an 8-week special topics course I'm teaching in the spring called Social Networking and the New Music Business.  I'm spreading the Joe Gospel wherever I can!  I'm glad to find a forum dedicated to Joe Bonamassa fans.  Thank you for being here!  :-)

Re: Hello, all, I'm new here!

I was also at the show last night and was mind blown! Felt like I was watching one of his DVDs on big screen but then had to pinch myself and say he's just that good in person! Welcome to the forum!

Re: Hello, all, I'm new here!

welcome murph, looks like you've been bitten by the bonabug, the only known treatment for which is more Joe. very cool on the special topic course, the students will definitely know who he is when it's over. good to have you join in, hang around and enjoy the company.

Re: Hello, all, I'm new here!

So nice to have you here, murph, among Joe's biggest fans!  You will love it here.

Regarding your "New Music Business" project, you will enjoy viewing the 4 "documentaries" that Joe and his crew made that are featured on the 4 DVDs from his London "Tour de Force".  They discuss the novel approach that Joe and his management have taken to "beat" the old-school music business model.  Those interviews are also here on the Forum to view.  I don't recall which topic they are under and too rushed right now to search, can anyone help murph find?

Welcome again!

Thank you for the welcome! It was an amazing show... also going to the April 23rd show in Indy next year.  And I honestly don't know if I can wait that long.  Checking out his other dates around the country as well. :-)  I didn't have to pinch myself.  The woman behind me was beating me on the shoulders (I took a lot of pictures) every time I took a shot she liked!  But it was awesome how friendly everyone around me was.  That theater was filled with mega good will last night...

Welcome to Bonamassaville! Nice to see a fellow teacher joining the fold, and I'm proud of you for thinking of a way to integrate Joe into your classroom so quickly!  wink

I must tell you, however, that the condition you have contracted is incurable. It can be managed successfully with regular exposure to Joe's music, and attending an occasion live show, but there is no cure...  big_smile

Thanks Sally!  I'll look for them.  I caught a few on Youtube, and was a little freaked out by the kismet of the whole thing...I'd long been noticing how Joe seemed to be a growing phenomenon without the big biz aspect of the music industry, how he utilized social media, how he gives his music away regularly... then the interviews.  He just basically taught half my class for me.  Wonder if I can get him to skype with my class?  (I can dream... :-))

Thank you!  So nice to be in this town! Yay..another teacher!  I have a pretty bad reputation for pushing good music down my students' throats regularly (and I teach business computing!) I consider it my duty.  Bonamassa fandom is an incurable disease I welcome.  I spent half of my guitar lesson this afternoon making my teacher watch Joe play Dust Bowl (acoustic). Worth every second to watch his face as he watched Joe.  I'm looking forward to having fun on these boards with you all! Thank you for making me feel so welcome!

Thank you Tres!  Let's hope they don't roll their eyes and go back to listening to Justin Bieber (not that there's anything *wrong* with that) after I'm done with them.  :-)

Re: Hello, all, I'm new here!

I am attending the show in april in Nashville and having the same problem as you...I don't think I can wait that long! Good thing my tour de force dvds just came in. That might hold me over awhile smile

Mine are on order. :-)  Still won't cure the itch.  I noticed you are working on barre chords from the other thread.  We'll have to compare notes.  I can play 'em great.  Just not in songs with other chords. ;-)

Re: Hello, all, I'm new here!

yes, the dreaded barre chords will be the end of me! Going to the show last night definitely rejuvenated me to keep on practicing! How long have you been playing for?

Re: Hello, all, I'm new here!

Welcome! I was at the show in Louisville as well, you certainly had a great 1st show! Awesome on your course, please keep us posted. One of my childhood friends works at IU maybe in the music department, I'll have to ask her!

Let me suggest this for your future shows, it's not before April but could be and great run. I assume you're going to Indy on the 23rd, he'll be in Lexington on Friday the 25th and Nashville on Saturday the 26th. We are going to both and I may have 2 tickets for sale for Nashville, face value of course, just waiting to hear if a friend wants to buy them before I officially post them for sale.

I've only been seriously playing for 14 months.  (that makes it sound so much shorter!).  I'm currently working on two songs containing barres. And finger picking Blackbird. Right now, I'm doing acoustic, but I built an electric this past summer that I fiddle with (not literally).   6 months into playing, I bought the music book for Dust Bowl.  Then I laughed and laughed and said "Never gonna happen".  But you never know... :-)

I will keep you posted for sure! Yes, it was a dream show for me to see him do acoustic opening for himself (lol!) and then the electric set. My avatar over there is a pic I took that night.  I could have listened all night long.  For at least one show next year (or this year) I need to arrange the m&g from the lithograph.   Lexington is totally doable for me since it's a Friday!  ROAD TRIP! :-)  Have a great day, and so nice to meet you!

Welcome! Looks like you, Erin, and I make up a fun little Midwestern guitar-newbie trio! smile
