Yes I saw Joe tell the security guy something after the encore... the guy was not pleasant at all and also kept walking in front of us all night. Oh well didn't stop me from having the most fun I've ever had at a concert! I got a 1 min clip I will try and post soon

Was this the big bald guy who kept strolling up and down the aisle and getting in my shots?  He was irritating and I wasn't even that close to where he was lurking (I was in row M, far left).

Re: Louisville Palace November 5

Yup, big bald guy sounds about right. It was so funny being in the first couple rows I could see Joe looking at him walk by while he was playing, I could tell Joe was getting annoyed by him. I'm still on cloud 9 from last night. What an amazing performer/guy!

I have to schedule the meet and greet with Joe... and get those free tickets!  I can't wait.  I want to bring the electric guitar I made this summer for him to strum once and sign. :-)  I hate security...it's always so uneven.  At Winwood, I was in the second row in front of him (not pit) and this drunk guy kept jumping up in front of me and walking to the stage and hanging out, completely blocking my view.  Security did nothing, despite my desperate glares!

Re: Louisville Palace November 5

Those of you that have met me know I am long winded, so sorry it's long I type like I talk and there's so much to tell! First off I want to say a huge thank you to Joe, both bands, crew all of those at J & R that keep this show "Always on the Road"  This was show # 13 for me and I was as blown away as I was the first time I saw Joe in Louisville at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in March 2009. Thank you Joe for always keeping it fresh and ever evolving. I love, love, love the dual show, the acoustic is so entertaining. Joe surrounded by extremely talented musicians that compliment his playing so well you can just tell they are truly having fun and loving every minute of it.

What's new besides the acoustic set, Derek & Lenny (both absolutely fantastic and a great addition). The stage set up much different, Tal is center stage and I don't think it was just me but he is sitting much higher? I could be wrong and it just appears to be higher because he is center instead of to the side. Unlike the Apollo, Lenny is just to Tal's left and  behind Carmine. The theremin not as visible and from where I was sitting positioned that Joe had his back to me. Not complaining, just saying, it sounded just as awesome as it always did.

A lot more signage around the merchandise table looks awesome. The lines were long before and after the show. I was so excited to see they had the new hats for sale, I like certain types of baseball caps and it was hard to tell by the store photos if it was the style I liked it was and I couldn't decide which I wanted so I had to get both! AND they had bags to put your merch in! YAY, I was sure to thank Bob for having those. I collect tshirts and buy one at every show and no one ever has anything for you to keep the shirt & whatever else in. You have to keep track of it all night gets all wadded up, dropped a few times by the time you get it home has to be washed before you can wear it! May be way expensive but would be really awesome to have the JB branding on them smile

Also new at the merch table is a Keeping the Blues Alive donation box! Excellent idea, I made sure to drop some $$ in. I will create a separate topic for this. If you're going to one of the upcoming shows be sure to drop a little something in even if it's just loose change. The more folks that drop something in the more likely it will get noticed. Every little bit adds up and we all know it's for a great cause.

From the beginning all the way back to the parking lot! As we paid the parking attendant she said can you see the lunar eclipse? Sure enough, we stood in the parking lot watched the eclipse for awhile what  a cool start to the evening! Round the corner and the Palace Marquee had Joe Bonamassa November 5 on the left and The Black Crowes November 6, bit of a Caveman connection there.

I've decided that if Joe ever wants to take a break from playing he should try a few nights doing stand up comedy! He did a whole bit on the pronunciation of Louisville! When he was on Greg Martin's radio show Monday night he said Looeyville, and Greg was quick to tell him it is Loo-a-vul. In his best southern accent Joe told how his pronunciation had been corrected by everyone including the hotel desk clerk when asked how to get the Looeyville Slugger Museum smile Joe your southern accent was great hope someone got video!

<------see avatar wink

and Joe you should know you are not alone!

Highlights:

Woke Up Dreaming-Total darkness as he starts playing solo. We all know what a stunner that is, perfect opener for the acoustic set I was just waiting to hear the crowd roar and they did. It really got the crowd into it and set the tone for the remainder of the show.

Around the Bend-One of my favorite songs, I cried when I heard it at the Royal Albert Hall, I sobbed when I heard it at the Louisville Palace. I mean take my glasses off pull out the handkerchief crying! As awe inspiring as the Albert Hall is there was just something special about hearing it at home smile Thank you Joe those were tears of joy, it was perfect.

Ball Peen Hammer- One of my favorites and to the best of my recollection I've only seen it live once in 2009. Sounds so good with this acoustic ensemble.

Athens to Athens-The perfect ending to showcase the amazing talent of the acoustic musicians.

Dust Bowl-Sorry to repeat myself but I love how much this song has evolved and still is evolving since the first time I heard it live in Las Vegas February 2011 before the cd was released. I think it is perfect as the new opener for the electric set. As dramatic an opener Slow Train in my opinion was time for a change and Dust Bowl is perfect for it.

Midnight Blues-My Sloe Gin, my last show was Vegas in April, it wasn't on the set list and I really missed it, happy that it made a return a beautiful version and one again the handkerchief came out and another thank you Joe your vocals and playing were stunning!

Slow Train-probably the best I've ever seen it since the first time in Nashville in November 2010.

Look Over Yonder's Wall -Special guest Kentucky Head Hunter, Greg Martin,  a huge roar from the crowd as Joe announced he was coming out. The 2nd time I've seen Greg play with Joe (1st time Taft Theater last November) both times he and Joe jam and you can tell just have a blast doing it. I saw Greg watch Joe at one point and just shake his head and then right back at him, so fun!  And it wasn't just those two it was  a full band jam.  I saw guitar tech Mike take a photo of Greg and Joe as they stepped away for the drum solo that Joe later posted on Twitter. Tal & Lenny playing off of each other really fun to watch. Lenny is a great addition.

Django/Mountain Time-With both bands was so incredible a great new encore, only thing wrong was that it meant it was the end. I honestly could have watched them play all night long!

Those are just the highlights for me the entire show was perfect, from beginning to end. The audience was a little rowdy at times, early in the show there was a lot of whistling and yelling Joe's name, but thankfully as the evening went on it was less and less during the crucial quiet moments and it only got obnoxious few here and there. One thing I really seemed to notice at this show is the crowd really recognized the songs as they begin they crowd would applaud and cheer, just loved that.

Re: Louisville Palace November 5

Lizzee, that was a great review! Thank you for that and the set list.  100% agree with it all (Joe doesn't seem to talk a whole heck of a lot during shows, so the Loouhvull story was hysterical to me!)  I too hope there was video of that.  Thank you again!

Re: Louisville Palace November 5

Hey Everyone!  This was my 4th JB show, and he amazed me once again!  I do want to ask everyone if he stayed after the show for pics and autographs.  Every show we have been to previously he came out to the back of the venue about 30 minutes after he finishes performing and talked to anyone and everyone that was out there.  We were out there no later than 5 minutes after the encore ended, and were told by the security guards he was already on the bus and gone.  Does anyone know if he did indeed stay after?  It just doesn't seem like him to do that, however I know he had another show the following day in Knoxville, and I definitely can't blame him for wanting to get out of there, as I am sure he is exhausted with his crazy schedule....

Here is my review of the Louisville Palace show on November 5, 2013.  Here is the set list for
Acoustic with Gerry O’Conner, Derek Sherinan, Lenny Castro, Mats Wester and Joe Bonamassa:

Woke Up Dreaming
Seagull
Jelly Roll
Black Lung Heartache
Around the Bend
Jockey Full of Bourbon
Stones in my Passway
Ball Peen Hammer
Athens to Athens.

Electric set with Joe, Tal, Carmine, Derek and Lenny

Dust Bowl
Who’s Been Talking
Midnight Blues
Dislocated Boy
Driving Towards the Daylight
Slow Train
Yonders Wall
Sloe Gin
John Henry

Encore
Django / Mountain Time

Meet and Greet was wonderful.   Erdrago(Erin) and her dad  were there with us.  So great to share it with someone from the forum.    Joe was a few minutes late.  I recognized Clay his tour  manager before I  did Joe.  He looks so normal  without that suit and sunglasses.  He was very nice and chatting with everyone.  Clay was his ominous self.
We had a gift bag  for Joe with some goodies( Kentucky Bourbon, Funny Socks that had wine glasses and others with Guitars, and Ice Cube tray with Guitar Shapes).  He said he would share the Bourbon with Tal( I know he is a wine drinker but we live in Kentucky and Bourbon is king).  I had on my new Street Team shirt from Tribute.  Joe said Is that one of ours.  I said of course.  He laughed and said I need to stay on top of stuff  more because I did not know about that one.   He was very relaxed and not in a hurry at all.   THANK YOU JOE!!!!

Prior to the meet and greet we were behind the theatre and  saw the trucks but security would not let us take a photo. Did see Mats, Gerry and Lenny arriving for practice.   Met some folks from Nashville, Kansas City and Louisville.

We waited for Erin, Who got a huge hug from Joe.  She and I did the jump up and down dance outside .  Woo Hoo we met Joe.  Got great seats , Pit Row 1 Center seats 1 and 2.  Right smack dab in front of Joe and his microphone.
The show was just like heaven.  It went by so fast.  Highlights from Acoustic for me were:  Black Lung Heartache; Around the Bend( a dream of mine to see Joe play this.)  Stupid security stopped  me from filming this.  Joe did not like that.   Stones in my Passway and Athens to Athens were the best by far in my mind.   Just can’t tell you how good it was to see Mats, Gerry and Lenny with Joe.  Like being at  Vienna.  Stellar group and so tight.  Loved it.  Side note,  when lights came on during Woke Up Dreaming, I looked at Joe's feet and he had on the socks I gave him with the guitars.  Pretty funny and so cool. I love Joe.

After a short break( when I got to meet Lizzee( Liz Horseman) from the forum.  The electric set began.  Just wonderful.  He opened with my husband’s favorite Dust Bowl.  It just got better after that.  Not a missed note and saw lots of lovely guitars.  Highlights are Guitar solo on Who’s Been Talking, Dislocated Boy was scorching hot. Oh, my I have never  expected that solo. Just a++++.  Midnight Blues again so sweet, mellow, and haunting. Joe just blew my doors off all night.  Look over Yonders wall was exceptional. Greg Martin from Kentucky Head Hunters was a guest with his lovely 58 Les Paul. The Ballad of John Henry should be the Encore.  He was so smoking hot  and the band just went with him.  Unreal.

Actual Encore was Django Mountain Time.  Being in the front row and watching him do that magic song. Was one of the best moments of my life.   Magic.  The mix on this song at the end went a bit over our heads but that’s okay. I still loved it.

Last tidbits are:  Joe joked about how to pronounce Louisville. Which is a funny story if you live here.  Song played when lights out was Bone Pony countrified version of Highway to Hell.   Very appropriate.  Enjoyed the new light show.  Very good.  Liked the drums and piano raised so you can really see what they are doing.  Derek did a great job.   Show lasted until 10:40 even with two less songs from the Cleveland show.   Just fabulous.  Only real issues were that Joe got mad at the end of the show.  Two guys moved up from about three rows back from me.   They sat down beside me for the Encore.   The song had ended and the security guard came over and loudly told them they had to go back to their seats.  Joe stopped in the middle of his final introductions  to tell the guy, “Stop, its okay leave them alone.:.  Then Joe resumed his introductions and final bow.

The best show yet.     Only 138 days until I see him again.

Great Review Mary! I still can't stop thinking about that whole day and how great it was! I just feel so lucky to have gotten to experience that! Meeting you guys was just an added bonus! Joe is simply the best and seeing him wear the socks you got him is just a testament to how much he admires his fans! What a great guy and his band is just fantastic also. Carmine is the epitome of cool! As are the rest of the guys! It's a night I will never forget!

Liz,   Hearing around the bend was so emotional for me.  Just loved this.   I understand the tears from hearing certain songs.  Just  so much emotion in his playing.  Thanks for this wonderful review

I only see one less song than Cleveland, "Someday After Awhile"...What was the other?...Thanks and I'm glad that you loved the show...We see Joe 11/22 in Atlanta...The Other Joe B.

It's a new dawn, it's a new day, it's a new life for me...and, I'm feelin good

Yes he did.

Mary, Lizzee, Erin, murph, astuthers, reading your reviews makes us all happy!  Delighted it was all you expected it to be and much much more.  Loved that Joe wore your socks, Mary!    big_smile

Yes he does get on the bus as soon as the show is over and head to the next venue.  That is unless they are playing two nights in a row at the same venue.  This is a change from the past.

Music is good for the Soul...

So fun to read these reviews of the show in my old KY home! smile I got a kick out of the Louisville pronunciation thing... have had to explain it many a time here in Iowa.

This is all making me so excited for my first JB show in April!!
