Topic: New Issue of Guitar Techniques Magazine

For all of you that are interested in the instructional DVD in Guitarist Magazine, you would be well served to watch out for the upcoming issue of Guitar Techniques, a tuition based mag from England.  It is an issue on blistering Blues-Rock players, including some tab (don't know whether it will be licks or a complete Joe song). Joe B will be in select company including Gary Moore.  Both mags are available at Borders or Barnes and Noble.  I've been expecting this exposure for Joe for a long time and I congratulate him for his hard work and dedication.  See ya all later, off to play some licks from Guitarist!!

Holy Crap! I'm not cheap, but I saw this mag (guitarist magazine) in Borders and it goes for $14.95! I understand that it has a "free" instructional dvd with it, so I recognize that might add a couple of bucks. I don't think I've ever paid more than $4.95 or maybe $5.95 for a magazine, but I probably wouldn't have batted an eye at $7.95 or $8.95. Does anyone know if Joe's part of the dvd is something new or if it's an excerpt from his full instructional dvd?

if someone has the dvd, they should put it in their computer, drag the files onto the hard drive and put it onto youtube.com. that way we can all enjoy it without having to pay for a foreign magazine.

Is it OK to broadcast copyright material like this?


I've purchased many Guitar Techniques magazines, all with the follow along CD or DVD. They are more expensive than most magazines, but they include more content and less standard advertising (less than Guitar, for instance).

I think it might be better to spend the $15 bucks, because I'd like to support any media that is giving exposure to Joe as he continues to build his business.

I can't buy everything, all the time, but I do make a conscious effort.

I have to agree...
I don't think we want to be spreading copyrighted materials. That's kind of illegal.
And I too can't afford to buy everything, but from what I have bought for my son that has tabs and instructionals, it has been worth the cost.

Take some time to look at Guitar Techniques and Guitarist. The are both wonderful magazines (IMHO) and cater to musicians. I find Guitarist to be very instructive and they generally tab songs that you have actually heard of unlike some of the other magazines.

Yes, the price is steep, but the quality is excellent. I should note that normally, Guitarist includes a CDROM, but the current issue has their second ever DVD.

Guitarist did a Stratocaster 40th aniversary special, which included the full tab for SRV's Texas Flood in standard tuning and many pages on Fender's flagship.

Also, Guitarist was the first magazine I saw that talked about Joe and had a review in their "blues" section of "So It's Like That" as I recall. I had never heard of Joe and went out and bought the CD (which included the DVD also). I haven't had a regret and am looking forward to seeing Joe in Vegas again on August 8th.

I am glad to see that Joe is finally getting some well deserved recognition.

Now, if I could only play like that........................... smile

Every known guitar magazine comes through our door every month. Guitarist Magazine is the Rolls Royce of guitar magazines, especially for guitarists, it is a class act.  The featured article is a farewell tour tribute to B.B. King. (last tour in UK) B.B. is considered..."the long reigning chairman of the blues board" . The review of "You and Me" considers Joe, " A slab of 21st century blues from the genre's new hero." The DVD has a ton of stuff on it, Joe has the first slot, it's great and the magazine has five examples from Joe laid out for guitarist to play. (Clapton, BB., Albert King phrasing, also SRV, Eric Johnson, Danny Gatton licks and picking) (Robben Ford, Pat Metheny, Steve Morse, Rolling Stones, Matt Schofield etc. also chords/tabs in the mag) The DVD also has a lot to offer. 

Guitarist is far from a basic magazine and that's why it's more expensive, it's like buying a book with audio or in a sense, self-help instructions for guitarist who want to reproduce their idols! Guitarist is the primo of magazines in the UK, so this is all very respectable and awesome exposure. I consider this reciprocity for all the great guitarists the U.K. has given the U.S.! It could turn out to be a collector's item, like old Rolling Stone magazines. IMO
