I caught Robert again last night in Indianapolis, opening for Peter Frampton.

Had a meet & greet with him prior to the show and got my RC-siggy hard-tail Strat signed by him! smile

Cray's set was an hour, then a half-hour break followed by Frampton for about an hour-forty-five (including about 15 minutes with legend Steve Cropper sitting in).

OK - I know I'm biased here - and won't go so far as to say Cray "blew Frampton off the stage" (because everybody loves Peter Frampton, right? smile )  - but I really think Robert put on a better show.  His band (including bassist Richard Cousins) was *tight* - and Frampton's seemed way too "loose" in execution.

Big thumbs up - and catch Cray if you can - fantastic show!!!

Nice to hear about the RC show at Indy.  (I can sympathize with your "bias"... wink )  Cool that you got the Strat signed.  Glad to hear it was a tight show.

I know I've told the story of seeing him at a small place called Fitzgerald's and getting to meet the whole band just before "Young Bob" started to take off.  Nice to hear that "Old Bob" is up to snuff.  Still giving Nothin' but Love pretty heavy rotation on my playlists.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

I'm seeing the Frampton Guitar thing in NY next week.  I've seen Cray before and he is great. Don Felder and Roger McGuinn on the bill as well. Frampton has a bit of a black mark in my book. Played a local venue (Stone Pony in Asbury) two years ago and waked off the stage after citing "guitar problems".. Came back last year and finished the show but prima donna moves appall me. And the "make up" show was during mid week where original show was on a weekend.

I'm excited to see Robert for the first time on Nov. 15th here in Iowa. First time I saw him was on the 2007 Crossroads Festival DVD doing "Poor Johnny," and I fell in love with his smoky-honey voice. So smooth and full of soul, and I just love his rich vibrato.

While he's obviously a great guitar player, I am still letting his sound grow on me... it's a bit tinny or shallow to me somehow, not quite sure how to describe it... any players want to explain? Is it just a Strat thing? I would imagine its something else, as other favorites of mine (David Gilmour, for example) play Strats and dont have that same sound. Curious what others think!

But I love his older stuff and just started listening to his latest album in anticipation of the show. Absolutely love "Won't Be Coming Home"!

Just got back from seeing Robert Cray at BB Kings in NYC. Have been a huge fan of his since him and Stevie got blues music actual radio play. After shelling out for tickets then dinner I was thoroughly disappointed  with the length of his set. 1 hour and 10 minutes then a very short 2 song encore. We tried for more but that was it. We've all been to concerts and you feel it build up as the show goes on until the end.  This never seemed to get to that point  of leaving you wanting more. We wanted more because you have basically played for an hour!Huge let down after seeing Rock of Ages earlier in the day.

Saw Robert Cray in Munich last week. There were about 1500 people there (standing room only). We stood next to the mixing desk and I have to say that the sound was excellent - crystal clear vocals and instruments.

There was a great atmosphere and Robert was on good form, joking with the audience. The band were excellent and there was a good selection of songs both old and new. All in all a great concert.
