Re: Birmingham NIA tonight

Brilliant show, same set list as previous nights and very good sound down at the front right of stage so no complaints, except................. goddammit, goddammit, goddammit Joe!  I'm a man of simple means and this was going to be my last show after 4 gigs in a year (one with Beth Hart which was just incredible) and putting out £85 for a seat close to stage last night but of course you have to go and play an awesome new cover song (Someday After A While), a classic BCC track with a slice of The Who to end it perfectly (Song Of Yesterday), bring on a great guest ( Bernie Marsden on a pretty funky Look Over Yonders Wall) and then you go and cap it all with a song you joke about always having to play (even I've heard 12 times!) and then go and bring something fresh to it (Sloe Gin), not to mention a great acoustic set to start with!

Oh well, looks like I've probably, hopefully, got more gigs to go and work to pay for because they are, and always will be, worth every penny. Goddammit Joe!

Re: Birmingham NIA tonight

A couple of weeks ago, my eldest son told me he was a bit fed up listening to his usual music (crap modern RnB etc, you get the picture) and so he'd downloaded some new stuff. "Oh yeah" I said, "what" expecting some more of the same and he comes out with "the Ballad of John Henry". I was stunned and asked him what he thought, when he said he thought it was great I said "do you fancy going to see him, he's on at the NIA in a couple of weeks". With a big yes I was on-line PDQ and booked tickets. I've seen Joe a fair number of times from the Robin in Bilston upwards but number one son hasn't really been to a proper gig.  Well the big night came around and we duly arrived at the NIA. A great show, as good as I've seen him and I wish my first gig had been as good, I think he's now a fully fledged convert.

When Bernie came on stage, were they both playing their '59s? I was too far back to be sure, but if they were it's the first time I've seen half a mils worth of guitar on stage. Joe's tone was huge with that Lester
