Topic: Cardiff Setlist 18 Sept 2013

Hiya All

Joe kicks off his UK tour in style at the welsh capital.

The song list was exactly the same as described in matirockers comprehensive post of the Luna Park concert.

Yes Jane, Song of Yesterday was indeed played just before Django and Mountain Time..nice twist at the end of SOY with a bit of the Who's Won't Get Fooled Again.

Agree with matirocker that the last encore, BOJH was the best rendition I've ever heard.

There was no recess between the acoustic and electric sections...Joe played all the way through until and including Mountain Time, with Sloe Gin (played for the 2,749th time jokes Joe) and BOJH the encores.

My seat was top priced, 85 gbp, sat third row from stage to the right (ie Carmine's side). I didn't have a full on view around the entire arena but there were quite a few empty seats down the front - Joe please take note that perhaps 85 GBP is stretching it a bit!!!

Roll on Friday and Bournemouth...one seat further forward in second row lol

Re: Cardiff Setlist 18 Sept 2013

Have read matirockers' review of luna park but forgive me, does he fail to name the first song of the electric half of the set?

Great gig, really enjoyed smile

You are indeed correct...and that would be Dust Bowl

Re: Cardiff Setlist 18 Sept 2013

Yes, a very good show. We were sat front row on the left hand corner of the stage. About 6 feet away from the floor mounted stack of bass speakers and I must say the accoustics were superb and wonderfully loud!

Great overall balance of tunes with the highlight for me being Song of Yesterday. With Derek on board now, it did a good job of helping compensate for the disappointment of the cancelled Wolverhampton BCC gig. Can't help wondering if the "Won't Get Fooled Again" addition was a sly dig at Glen!

Speaking of Derek, his keyboards were superb and their presence was noticeably more prominent than in Joe's past performances. At least I think it was Derek, the wooly hat, dark glasses and beard would have made a good disguise. Only his brilliance gave the game away.

Other stand out songs for me were  Story of a Quarryman, Midnight Blues and the much beefed-up versions of Dust Bowl and Dislocated Boy.

Roll on Manchester Saturday, Front row, centre stage, bliss!

No worries matirocker, don't let it detract from what was a cracking review you posted of the Luna Park show, coupled with your tale of meeting Joe...LUCKY BOY!!!!

Re: Cardiff Setlist 18 Sept 2013

BOJH was epic & loved Song of Yesterday. Story of a Quarryman and Spanish Boots were new live songs and highlights for me.

This show will live on for me as my best ever, including a meet and greet with Joe and a perfect 2nd wedding anniversary.

I will report in elsewhere with details but, suffice to say, Joe was really warm, welcoming, funny and down to earth.

A very special occasion for myself and my wife , simply a dream come true, thanks a million Joe.

Re: Cardiff Setlist 18 Sept 2013

Setlist looks good if that's the same show he's doing each night

Re: Cardiff Setlist 18 Sept 2013

Would I be right in saying there is no special guest?

So doors at 7:30 ; show 8:30 - 10:50 ?

There were loads of numpties still getting into their seats in Cardiff when Joe had been on stage for half an hour! I don't blame bands for being late on stage when they have to put up with that behaviour! Hope the rest of his tour doesn't suffer such disrespect!!!

Re: Cardiff Setlist 18 Sept 2013

I ended up in confrontation with two lads who just wanted to talk at full volume during Joe's quiet parts, having come in 40 minutes late. Why would you? I was sure they'd wandered into the wrong show. They just weren't listening.

That said, it didn't detract from a great night. Joe was on fire and I loved the song choices. Someday after a while just blew me away and BOJH was an amazing rendition. The band were really on form too, really great to hear Derek and Joe sparking off each other especially.

Joe and the band did put on a fine show. We were on the left hand side of the venue and couldn't really hear much of Carmine in the mix. I know that Joe is obviously the main event but as a bass player myself (Fender JB x2) I do like to hear more low notes.

On a totally separate point "Hollie's Dad", I also have daughter called Hollie!!!!! cool
