Topic: John Mayer-Paradise Valley

So after a few weeks of listening I'm hopelessly in love with the new Mayer Album. I also liked its predecessor but I feel like with Paradise Valley he successfully crafted his own brew of Singer/Songwriter Songs with just a little Country influence and outstanding musicianship without any showing off. Also, the mix is really stellar, with lots of room for the instruments to breath.

I understand that the newer Mayer work might shy away some blues fans but I can only recommend Paradise Valley to anybody who is in search for the right soundtrack for the summer ending.

Similar thoughts - really enjoy this album even if it is a shift in styles. Born & Raised did split opinions, but in context I see it as a stepping-stone between the old and new. However, I'm not sure about the "Neil Young" styling image.

When life gives you lemons; don't make lemonade.
Give back the lemons.  Why were the lemons free?  What's wrong with the lemons?
Do Not trust the lemons...

The new album, aside from a couple songs, just doesn't grab me.  I've got to respect Mayer for following his muse and not selling out to his past successes.  Of course I wish he'd revise the trio as that was an awesome band.  Maybe that'll resurface in the future (I hope)!  In closing I will say his cover of "Call Me the Breeze" ranks as one of his best - a song that would make J.J. Cale proud.

Totally agree Curby.
We took his new CD on holiday recently - really enjoyed it, all the way through.
We're going to see him in concert, when he comes to London soon!

Sorry but in my opinion we lost Mayer at Continuum. I don't know who the guy is wearing his skin but I am content to wait until the mothership brings the real John Mayer home again. big_smile

Can you elaborate on that? Do you dislike his newer Stuff because it has less focus on guitar/blues playing?

Personally, i don't over analyse music - 'keep it simple' is my mantra -  JM does that from me. pure and simple.
