Topic: Online Sweepstakes

I know, this looks like a spammer hitting the site, but I bet it gets some hits. roll lol

A family friend has been inordinately lucky over the years, winning unbelievable prizes in random sweepstakes she'd enter for the cost of a stamp. Cars, fancy spa trips, cruises,  tickets to events and such. I asked her what her secret was and she said she just entered everything she saw. Well, I decided to try her strategy. Facebook has a lot of links to drawings that promote various sites, so I started to "like" and enter the local drawings for places I like such as live music clubs and restaurants. So far over the past year I've hit six times in online drawings with the best being a nice guitar and meet/greet with a minor  pop artist, but free  tickets to live and theater entertainment, free dinners at nice restaurants, swag and other stuff have made it quite worthwhile at the cost of some email spam. Just sayin... the odds must be pretty good since most see that stuff slide by on the ad bar and ignore it. Somebody has to win those things.
Good luck pals. smile

I will say this though, please pay attention to what your loved elderly family members might be doing regarding sweepstakes.

my late M-I-L got swindled in a few different ways.
the little ones were the mail sweepstakes where they get you for $12-20 bucks here and there and say its for account or attorney fees prepaid for when you win. I forget exactly but they word it real nice and it will make sure your winnings won't get delayed....
then they started calling her. who? (some ahole in Canada that's all I know) and told her she won a half million and she needed to send $1400 bucks via moneygram which is like western union. the way they made it even sound legit was they had her put it in her son's name but send it to Canada. somehow they said she could  know it was OK because it was in his name. so we guess he just made himself an id with that name. why moneygram won't put their employees on alert to this I dunno but anyway it wasn't until the woman at the bank questioned her about the large cash withdrawls did she reveal her secret winnings - they told her not to tell us, so that she could surprise us by sharing her money prize. they then called her to tell her she won a million. and told her how to get cash advances on her credit cards (the ones she kept opening everytime she got a preapproved offer in the mail) and how often she could get the cash advances until she had enough to send them.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

so, not to turn a happy thread sour, it just reminded me of this. your state's attorney general's office probably has a consumer guide for seniors which is worth looking into. many times your elders have a hard time believing you know what you are talking about....of course this is good info for the plain stupid too but keep an eye on your seniors if possible.

otherwise, you gotta play to win. at this stage in my life, a lot of things like winning mean less to me than they used to but I do admit I enjoy being a winner

What I meant was LOCAL venues. Not national lotteries or such stuff. Many of the venues have promotional drawings on f/b and em list subscribers that offer free tickets and prizes. Those are the ones I've been winning at. I just got a nice set of BBQ accessories in the mail from the Civic theater group yesterday. I see you got lucky at a big one though. smile That advice for scams is good.

Re: Online Sweepstakes

Maybe I'm not puttin' my name in the hat as much as I used to, but about 5-7 years back I was hittin' numerous contests. Maybe it's a cycle of luck too.

Thanks for the information and so sorry about your late Mother In-Law's experiences.   If people who spent so much time and creativity ripping off people put that instead to good use helping people what a wonderful world we would enjoy.

I agree about better results with the local smaller venue contests , but my strategy has always been to wait until I feel lucky too.

Never hurts to try and Double Luck to all!
