Topic: The 10 Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums of the 1970s

Here's another list from Rolling Stone:

10. Montrose - Montrose
9. Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
8. Kiss - Alive!
7. Aerosmith - Rocks
6. AC/DC - Highway To Hell
5. Van Halen - Van Halen
4. Deep Purple - Machine Head
3. Black Sabbath - Paranoid
2. Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
1. Led Zeppelin - IV

I own every one of these albums. I know there's lots of other great ones, but this is one list I actually agree with. I usually don't agree with Rolling Stone on alot.

Great!!! Another Best Of List from RS, just a catalyst for an argument.

I own 7 of the 10  - of course, i can think of others that could have been included - but that's half the fun of debating lists.

For once...all great records. No need for numbers next to them...and then add a few more!

Personal favourite to add would be Tommy Bolin - Teaser

Re: The 10 Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums of the 1970s

yeah, where is RJD?? I have most of them, but did not realize that Aerosmith was considered metal/hard rock. I would take Bridge of Sighs as well over one of these. All in all not a bad list.

Re: The 10 Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums of the 1970s

Only 6 out of the first 10.........

I would definately have

Humble Pie - Live at the Fillmore
Budgie - Best of Budgie '75.............or any of there various '70's albums
Next - SAHB
The Oooo - Who's Next (if only for Won't Get Fooled Again)
Beck, Bogart and Appice
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous......over dubbed or not!

No Hits, No Hype.......................Classic Rock Jan 2012

Re: The 10 Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums of the 1970s

I like powerage as well. I'd replace one of the Zeppelin & Sabbath albums with Rainbow Rising & Bridge Of Sighs.

My first thought seeing the original post was "What no Budgie?" I wore out the grooves on my copy of Bandolier back in the '70's.

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Great list have  all but the Kiss Alive, liked Kiss very briefly (Hotter Than Hell). Can't argue much with the list either and would put Bridge of Sighs on as wellI would consider  BOC on your Feet Or On Your Knees or Secret Treaties on my list.Might make an Argument for Sabbaths debut.Have to put Deep Purples In Rock in contention too.

We should a listing for the 10 best track titles of all time. Budgie would win them all!

'Nude disintegrating Parachutist Woman'
'Hot as a Dockers Armpit'
'Crash course in Brain Surgery'

Great band. Distinctive and very original.

No Hits, No Hype.......................Classic Rock Jan 2012

Re: The 10 Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums of the 1970s

Totally agree about Budgie. Bought their albums and singles from day one.

"You're the biggest thing since powdered milk"
"In the grip of a tyre fitters hand"
"Napoleon Bona-Part One"
"Napoleon Bona-Part Two"
"If swallowed do not induce vomiting"

Brilliant band!!!

Re: The 10 Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums of the 1970s

Scorpions. Virgin Killer.  Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush  Live.  Two of my all time faves.  Uli Jon Roth really tore it up on Catch Your Train.  Frank Marino's is my favorite live album.

What's great about this is it's a great list, is that others are adding to it that are fantastic albums as well.  My personal favorite will have to be Bad. Co., because I can't go anywhere without it. But that is my personal choice.

I totally love the 2 that you mentioned, and have to pull those out.  I forget about these sometimes because so much great music came out in the 70's.  Thanks for the reminder Hoosier smile

"Holy Toledo"  -  Bill King   "Just Win Baby" - Al Davis  "The Autumn Wind" - Steve Sabol

Re: The 10 Best Metal/Hard Rock Albums of the 1970s

7/10 for me add some Uriah Heep

Live 73 still the best live album .............
