Topic: SRV - 23 years gone

23 years ago...wow, hard to believe it's been that long already.  The weather in WI right now is a lot like it was then, hot and steamy.  It was one of those "I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard" moments.

Here's a really nice article from gibson.com earlier this month if you haven't seen it.  A little mix of nostalgia, biographical and technical.

"Oh baby, since you're gone, I got a massa the blues!"

Re: SRV - 23 years gone

A good friend and musician buddy was in Austin catching a flight home today and posted a pic on FB at the SRV Memorial statue there.

Re: SRV - 23 years gone

It just seemed like yesterday that I had seen him. 23 yrs, just doesn't seem possible. He was one of my favorites of all-time and will always be.  He was blues through and through. So much passion, the House will always be Rockin'

RIP Stevie

Re: SRV - 23 years gone

I'll never forget, or stop listening.  PBS here has been playing the show with SRV and Albert King, lately.

No amount of time will erase the memories.  Seeing him on a side stage at Chicagofest, and many times after that, including the penultimate concert at Alpine Valley.  My brother-in-law and sister have a son named "Stevie-Ray Vaughan" (and their last name...).  That's what kind of fans they were/are.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Of course I was a fan since hearing Pride in Joy in 83 but didn't get to see him till 90'. Busy raising kids. He was in the Dallas area many times but just never had the time or money. Seeing him in 90 was a religious experience beyond my wildest imagination. Didn't have that feeling again till Joe. I learned from Stevie you have to live life by the drop. That is why I'm here.

Re: SRV - 23 years gone

I believe I saw this quote in another Forum member's signature, sorry can't recall whose, but I LOVE this:

"It's really liberating to not know you can't do something."  -  Stevie Ray Vaughan

Truly words to live by.

"To repeat a good thing is to sit still; to take a chance is to grow." - Joe Bonamassa
I need some Joe...NOW.
Joe = Joy
