So I was just thinking about this earlier today- does anybody know when/where the first Joe Bonamassa concert was? Anyone know the setlist or anything else about it?

i was wondering about what the setlists were like during the so its like that era. was mountain time played then like it is now, and so on.
do you mean like his first show after Bloodline or like first public performance?
anyway i don't know
maybe Joe or Papamassa or Mommamassa will tell us. we don't need the whole history, we'll buy the book one day
I'm wondering about his first show after Bloodline- in the Joe Bonamassa band... I know his first really big gig was with BB King- not sure about before that though... I know he played around though...

I saw him at Vernon Downs in Verona, NY in I want to say 1999? He opened for Derek Trucks, Joan Jett, Foghat and Loverboy. It might have been 1998, but I really think '99. Outside show. We talked to him after and he was, as usual, very happy to say hi. We traveled 3+ hours to see him....the other bands were a bonus. Although I will say, Foghat was unreal. It was Lonesome Dave's last tour, and probably one of his last shows. Tone Stevens on Bass, Roger Earl on Drums, Brian Bassett on slide/lead and Mr. Peverret on lead vocals/guitar. Almost the original band.
We then saw Joe in New Haven at Toads a year later w/ a different band and he opened for the Radiators....we were like the only ones there....except for like 10 other people. It was the New Day Yesterday tour and we stood right in front of him getting blown away. We talked to him and the band, they all signed posters that we have hanging in our garage to this day.
So, the show in NY was before New Day Yesterday, and he did not play anything off that disc, and also nothing off Bloodline(I don't think...maybe The Storm) disc. Was a really cool show.
Good question. I certainly don't know the answer, but I have info regarding Mountain Time. I know Mountain Time was played as early as July 2002. There is a recording of Joe in Milwaukee at Summerfest where he played Mountain Time and it is very much like the original studio version. The other interesting thing is that it's done as a medley where they transition into Sick In Love.

Just go to "Search" > "dates & artists" and type in Joe Bonamassa, click search, and you'll get a year by year breakdown of known recordings and setlists. The site lists only known recordings and not every show. Even the setlists are not always included.

LEE - I know you're a huge Walter Trout fan so I'm just wondering if you saw Joe and Walter
play July 16th 2001 - at the Kaukauna Blues Fest (Wisconsin). That was the first time I saw
either of them - can't remember what songs they played tho.

I love that version of Mountain Time!!! Plus going into Sick in Love makes it even better!!! Two great songs put together there!!
Edit: I just listened to that version again and Joe actually starts the song off with the modern day live Mountain Time then goes into the origial version. Very cool!

I can't remember for sure, and like a dummy I didn't take any pictures, but if I had to guess
I'd say Tony and Creamo - simply because I think I would have remembered Eric, I was right up against the stage (with about 10 other people!) and Eric is hard not to notice if you

I was also there for this show. He DEAFinitely played something off of "ANDY", because I remember him playing "ANDY" at that show. I can't recall what else he played though. As far as I know, he hasn't played ANYTHING from Bloodline since he was in Bloodline. I know I've always wanted to hear him do a new version of "The Storm" but have yet to hear it (except for the shows I saw when he was still with Bloodline).
I went out to see him play at a bar in Dewitt on Bridge Street (near Syracuse) when he was calling the band "Smokin' Joe's Vault". This was before the Verona show (a couple months before, I believe). Unfortunately, due to some strange circumstances he ended up not performing. I was really bummed because it had been a looooong time since he had toured prior to that (the last time was with Bloodline), and I was psyched to see what he was gonna spring on us. The next time I heard he was touring was for the Verona show & I made sure I didn't miss it. I remember being back from the stage a ways when he began the first song & I ran up front to see who the new singer was. I couldn't believe it when I saw that he was the singer. Prior to Bloodline, with "Made In The Shade" I heard him sing a couple times, but the cracking voice of a 12-13 year old wasn't really his strength (not that I cared, of course). Ahhhh... the good ol' daze!

I think you are right that they were called Smokin' Joe's Vault at that time. I don't recall, but I thing Creamo & Tony were in the band at that time (it was DEAFinitely before Eric & Kenny). Joe played at a Syracuse bar his next time through & Tony & Creamo were DEAFinitely in the band that time. I was lucky enough to meet/talk to them after the show. Even got them to sign the new CD. Nice guys!
We live in Cazenovia (about half way between Syracuse & Verona. ALWAYS looking forward to Joe shows at the Turning Stone Casino.
We were also at the Syracuse Rhythm & Blues Fest (the one Joe played). Great show (as always).
I once did a weekend in Cazenovia while I was in college. One of my buddies from Maine had a girl that went to Cazenovia College. Nice little town. Boy did I get loaded there. And, I met my true look a like brother at that school and everybody there thought we were brothers.....never saw him again. It was like looking in the mirror!!
We went to the Rythem and Blues fest in Syracuse a year later and Joe played outside.
Cool show....Susan Tedeschi and Shemika Copeland played that year.....also Eric Gales
