I think you will get a lot of different answers here :-)
My personal favourite is "Ballad of John Henry" - just awesome from beginning to end.
If you're into live albums, listen to Live From Nowhere In Particular. It kicks major butt!!
Welcome to the forum enjoy all of the topics..........You'll probably end up with all of the Cd's eventually
Plus one on the live stuff........new day yesterday as well...
I would prefer a DVD.
Seeing him play is much better.
Beacon, RAH, New Day Yesterday and don´t forget Black Country Communion - Live in Europe!
Vienna is for advenced fans
Hi Geek and welcome.
I agree totally with Wolf - - start with a DVD so you can watch Joe play! Triple whammy that way.
I'm biased since this is what got me hooked, but 10 stars for Live at Royal Albert Hall 2009. To me that's the gold standard.
After that personally I'd go with So It's Like That, Driving Toward the Daylight, Sloe Gin, Live From Nowhere in Particular................oh heck, you just have to get them all!!!!
I would start with Dust Bowl, Ballad of John Henry and Sloe Gin - my top 3. Then branch out from there.
Welcome and glad you found Joe. I agree with all the posters. Live at Royal Albert Hall DVD is a great introduction to Joe's passion for the guitar. My favorite Album is Sloe Gin followed by DrivingTowards the Daylight.
I'd actually get a CD (or mp3 download) first - you can listen anywhere, and soak in the music by itself in whatever setting you want - on your commute, at the gym, or just sitting around the house. More chances to take it in! Whatever works of you, of course.
Live from Nowhere or the beacon give you the longtime favorites.so that might be the best place to start, kind of a best of thing.Studio CDs are all great but each has their own thing so you might want to go with a newer one such as Dust Bowl or Driving Twards the Daylight.
First CD: Live From Nowhere in Particular - as an introduction smorgasbord
First DVD: Albert Hall - Production values are astounding - it's super tasty and super emotional
I've been with the scene awhile. Try that to start. First the CD, then the DVD. THEN I WOULD GO BACK...
buy the first one, then #2, then #3 in order, say a month apart, so you digest them fully.

sorry Gary
No need to be sorry BJJ your plan makes as mucho sense as anything else I have seen!
An epic appetizer for you will be Joe at the RAH I (DVD). A fulfilling lifedream, pure emotions !
Don`t forget to enjoy his older stuff, the DVD "Live At The Rockpalast" (2006) with the cool cat on the bass, Eric Csar. Young and wild playing, always love it.
I first heard Sloe Gin on the radio and because I have a subscription to Classic Rock magazine the song was included on one of their compilation CDs. This was many years ago but "Live From Nowhere In Particular" was the first full CD I bought. Been hooked ever since. I would recommend that one as your introduction to Joe.
