Re: Demographics of this group

40, male, guitar player for almost 25 years.

When I've seen Joe, there were a few women in the audience (maybe 10%-20%), average audience age was probably late 30s.

Oh yeah, forgot the survey! neutral Sorry.  I'm an old speed limit inviolating 55 on cruise control.  Male, no gig, no big bank account player who loves musicological meanderings...

Re: Demographics of this group

Not quite as old as Bill and used to play too although I never got past the beginner designation. Guitar was as hard for me as Algebra. I don't long to be able to do Algebraic equations but I sure wish I could play a damn guitar solo. Since I can't I like to marvel at those that can.

Wives and girlfriends have been increasing at the shows I have been to lately.

I'm sure many wives/girlfriends have been converted after being "encouraged" to go along, that's a very good thing!  And the more people at the performances the merrier, absolutely.  But if I may gently point out (no offense intended), actually, some of us females have discovered/appreciate Joe on our own and have no need to be "taken" to his shows.  It can be the reverse, too, where we take men along with us.  Or sometimes no husband/boyfriend is involved at all, either by choice or by circumstance...      wink

Sorry, it's late and I'm in a goofy mood - don't mean to pick on a perfectly innocent and appropriate comment!

Re: Demographics of this group

Hi all,
Sorry I've been so long responding to all of YOUR responses.  Broke a bone or two recently and have been off computer mostly.  Anywho, I realize now I wasn't specific with my question.  Perhaps the makeup of this group here on the forum is representative of everyone in JoeLand??  I don't know.  I've only been to my one JB concert and was too busy staring at the band and grinning like an idiot to pay attention to those around me.

RickB--that's disconcerting!

So, I'm female and 47.  And I was floored by how much more mature the audience was.  I figured loud, locking music = younger people.  Boy was I wrong.

I'm addicted.

its my opinion that the demographics of Joe fans has alot to do with the current state of the music industry in particular the radio industry.
in other words, if i could get some more of Joe's rockin tunes into younger people's ears, it would seriously be different.
there are other factors of course, and particularly with whom is able to attend the shows but just in terms of actual fandom, it has alot to do with radio shutout, payola, the disintegration of the public airwaves mumblemumble! this is directly connected to with the reasoning of some of my personal Joe music style preferences as i do humbly believe that if there were more fans rockin out the world would be a better place etc etc. that is just a super-generalized statement but its why i cry out for certain things as a fan and celebrate some works more than others. seriously smile

Hi all,
I've only been here a short time and mostly read everything posted but don't post much.  But I've been wondering about the makeup of this group?
A) Are most members here male?
and
B) Are most members here guitar players?

I ask about the male/female bit because at my first and only(so far) Joe show a couple of months ago, Joe made a funny comment about there actually being 16 women in the audience and thanking those men who brought them.  Kinda cracked me up.  So he's getting more attention of women now, but still mostly men.

Then I see lots of posts that show great knowledge of guitars and other gear so I wonder if most of you are players.  Alas, I am not.  I grew up with a violin stuck at my chin! But I am so intrigued by the sound that can come from a guitar.

There IS a survey forum post type. try that.
