Topic: Demographics of this group

Hi all,
I've only been here a short time and mostly read everything posted but don't post much.  But I've been wondering about the makeup of this group?
A) Are most members here male?
and
B) Are most members here guitar players?

I ask about the male/female bit because at my first and only(so far) Joe show a couple of months ago, Joe made a funny comment about there actually being 16 women in the audience and thanking those men who brought them.  Kinda cracked me up.  So he's getting more attention of women now, but still mostly men.

Then I see lots of posts that show great knowledge of guitars and other gear so I wonder if most of you are players.  Alas, I am not.  I grew up with a violin stuck at my chin! But I am so intrigued by the sound that can come from a guitar.

I'm addicted.

Re: Demographics of this group

caniac, this is a tough question because the forum allows for anonymity. My guess would be more male than female, because there tends to be more male guitar players than female. Joe is called a guitar player's player. Since he frequently answers gear questions, there are many who only frequent that thread. There are also some couples, who are members, under one user name;)

Re: Demographics of this group

Boy, I don't know about that.  Probably the larger percentage is male...but the ladies sure seem to love him.  We've been to 12 shows in 3 yrs, and there sure seem to be a good representation of women.  I don't know if anyone else sees this, but I also think there are more younger people attending his shows in the past year.....( by younger I mean <40 ).

Bonaburst #18, JB Epi #191, MusicMan Darklord, LP Cherryburst Traditional Plus, Gigliotti GT, Takamine, Takamine 12 string, Martin D-28 & GPCPA1, Fender Amer STD Strat, Fender Custom Shop Gold Metalflake, Custom "OSU" Wagner Tele, Gibson SG Limited Govt Model, Jim Kelly Combo

Totally agree with the above comment. That's what I've found big_smile

Re: Demographics of this group

Well as my user name implies I am a girl( if you can call someone 54 years old a girl).  I am not a guitar player but my son is so i love to lurk in the gear section to have more knowledge of guitars to discuss with him. I found Joe because of my husband and I think that happens quite a bit.  I have found on this forum many women participating.   Joe has said numerous times that at first it was all guys and gear heads like himself who followed him.  On facebook group Bonanation, there are many women who follow Joe there.  Of course, only guessing so I think you  have a mixture of players and non players who just love excellent music and Joe's  persona.

Re: Demographics of this group

Both the Aussie shows I went to had a good mix of male/female audience members.  Probably an older crowd of professional people, rather than a young party crowd.

I know a lot of guitar geeks are fans of Joe's because, well, he is living the ultimate guitar geeks dream, and we all wish we were able to experiment with vintage guitars and amps like he does.

I am not a guitar player unless you count air guitar
I also see plenty of women at the shows,so don't think it is way over skewed to males

Re: Demographics of this group

Are there many girls under 30 here? I only say that, because the blues in general doesn't attract that many. I'm ticking the boring box of male guitar player...but under 30.

Re: Demographics of this group

Well, here's another girl (actually quite a few of us on here); not normally a blues fan but now an out-of-control Joe fan; many years ago used to be the most basic of players; and alas certainly not under 30.  Sorry.

While we all love Joe's music, I am convinced that players are the deepest fans since they obviously understand the nuances of Joe's skills better than most and just how friggin' good he is!

From the shows I've attended, it appears to me the majority of his fans are 40-60-ish, partially because they (we) grew up in the '60s-'80s with a love of the good solid rock bands.

Re: Demographics of this group

Here are Joe's viewer stats on my youtube channel, which is 90% Joe. This sample is over the last 30 days, but tends to stay in this area plus or minus a few percent. https://www.youtube.com/analytics?o=U#d … BlJOiMUVlQ
There is your answer. Who, what and where. I can also get breakdowns on most everything about the viewers lives you'd want. (including a lot of info that you wouldn't believe is out there or wish they didn't know about your lifestyle, and personal likes including some very intimate stuff yikes ,income, what and where you spend..... )

Same thing happens to me. And if you're not loggged in to youtube, you can't see anything.
My stats reveal 72% male, 28% female. Most views in the US followed by the UK, Germany then Canada. Age range is predominantly 45-64 very small numbers in other age ranges. And those stats are based on 64,000 views in the past 30 days. I do feel that male viewers increased with the addition of the Warren Haynes with Joe at the Beacon videos because it brought in a lot of Gov't Mule people who are predominantly male as well. So it is not pure Joe statistics. I think the forum has a higher number of women than the youtube stats show, maybe 38-40% and who knows about all the lurkers;)

Re: Demographics of this group

Hmm. I guess it is IP linked. Breakdown is 78.1% male, 21.9% Female, ages, 35=44 7.9 m, 1.2 f, 45-54 28.6/12.1, 55-64 35.4/6.4. That is 95% of all viewers over the 650K views. Country breakdowns are 60% North America, most of the rest Western Europe.

Re: Demographics of this group

Am I not paying attention? hmm  It has been known to happen...

Caniac, I was under the impression you were asking about the demographics of this forum.  It seems to somehow now become demographics of concert attendance and personal YouTube accounts views (and those come from even MORE possible places!!!)?  I think that is getting confusing if not addressed individually (although maybe even still confusing).  I can give an opinion on all 3, maybe even one or two more (if asked roll), but I would like YOUR wishes.  If you want all of mine, fine, but I will stick with presuming you meant the forum members.

Cathy is right about difficulties determining here, but anonymity aside, genders wise, it "seems to me" to be 50-50 here, overall, over time.  That's my honest interpretation, and I was here when it was a handful of people, although I think we were all males except if one of those was Joe's Mom, which could have been in line with Cathy's also accurate description of one username, two (or more) users posting under the one name.  And some of the long- established dual member, one username accounts specify whom is writing on occasion, again, "it seems to me" most of those are understood to be heterosexual couples/friends who are into co-contributing, at least with some relevant offline discussions about the topic or post at hand...The 50-50 surely doesn't apply to the section Joe checks most often, that most definitely is male-dominated because......women prefer singing? neutral I don't know! neutral  [whatever happened to Sarah Cole???]

Just 1/2 of my 2 scents.
