Topic: My roomie's car crash

For those that have been to "Camp Cathy" and know Jimmy, he crashed his truck into a tree on Monday during a storm. No seatbelt, so he got tossed around and ended up with a fractured pelvis. He had surgery yesterday and was feeling a little better today. He's going to be fine, but it'll take time.

Re: My roomie's car crash

Happy to hear your roomie is going to be fine.  Good he has you in his corner.

No Seatbelt ! - maybe he'll think twice from now on... hopefully.
another thing, trees are one of the worst things to crash into - fact!
I wish him all the best.

Yikes, Cathy.  Horrible to go through incidents like these, especially when you stop and think about what COULD have happened.  He was lucky, right?  Nice he has you to look after him.  Best to you both.

Glad he escaped with fairly treatable injuries. No seat belt! That is an instant ticket out here. You are right, trees don't give.

Re: My roomie's car crash

Wear a seatbelt. Easy.

Re: My roomie's car crash

Hopefully he realizes how lucky he is and learns a lesson.

Re: My roomie's car crash

Lessons are often hard to learn.  A long time ago my dad was in a horrible crash (no seat belt) and was practically crushed and looked like something out of a horror movie.  He had only a 10% chance of survival. My mother was devastated and ripped apart seeing him so completely torn up. He miraculously pulled through but died 5 years later of heart attack.

To this day my mother still refuses to put on her seatbelt..................what is wrong with people?  Will never understand.

I don't know Jimmy.  But I feel for him.  All too many people do things without the necessary safety equipment, as a matter of course.  I know, I've had friends die, as a result.

Glad to hear Jimmy is still with us, hope his recovery goes well.  It will be painful, for all concerned.  Just like hearing of the accident must have been.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: My roomie's car crash

I should expand so you know he's really a responsible guy. He loves his Chrysler 300 and doesn't like to leave it at the train station, so he bought a 2008 Ram truck for that purpose. And, he loved that truck too. He hadn't made the first payment. When this happened, he had just left the dump and was putting his license back in his wallet. So I only lecture him once a day. Grateful he'll recover to drive again, securely latched in wink

Re: My roomie's car crash

You would think that with all the technology auto makers include in their vehicles they could make it impossible to even start a vehicle without seatbelts fastened......oh wait, then law enforcement couldn't write tickets=revenue!

Re: My roomie's car crash

sad  Get better day by day Jimmy, smile and with good PT, plus nurse Cathy, hopefully very soon.  Wishing you well and good solid healing.  Then make sure the guitar doesn't hurt your lap first, or play like Jeff Healey until it doesn't. wink

Re: My roomie's car crash

...and having seen the pictures of the black and chrome Ram hemi beast when he first got it, I was so jonesing to get in it....yup, that'll sure learn him about wearing his seat belt.....Jimmy-Bob is too ornery to let something like this get him down, though rehabilitation to the point of walking and being able to drive again is going to take some considerable time and will really try his patience.

I deliberately wrote the above in a light-hearted way because I know Jimmy very well, and think of him as a brother. wink

I will tell him one thing, don't let them push you unless you want to be pushed with therapy.
They don't know your body, and they are sometimes in a rush.  A day or 2 can make a difference in how strong your body can feel and then you can really move.  Just a tip.  It will come, just do a little more each day.

Re: My roomie's car crash

Thanks for all the concern. He is transferring to a rehab center today. He's still not able to tolerate full weight bearing, but there is slow and steady progress. wink
