Topic: Live From Daryls House

I was wondering if anyone ever watches "Live From Daryls House"?  I've watched some of the episodes, including Joe Walsh and Grace Potter. KebMo has been a guest and several others.

Last night the warm-up act for Johnny A was Eliot Lewis, (a big Joe fan) who is currently in Daryls band...in the Joe Walsh's episode, he plays keys. Eliot is an awesome guitar player and played guitar and sang for The Average White Band for about 12 years.

Re: Live From Daryls House

I catch the show from time to time, but it seems to air at odd times, here.

Have seen KT Tunstall (that was a good show), and the Joe Walsh episode.  I missed Eliot, though.  Too bad.  Will hope for a repeat airing.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Live From Daryls House

I watch it all the time. Cool show.

Re: Live From Daryls House

I've seen quite a few of them. Grace, Cee Lo Green and a few others. It's very apparent who's show it is and who's band plays - Darryl's House Band. I think Grace had her drummer with her but he played percussion and not drums. I like the show - no attitude allowed lol.

Re: Live From Daryls House

Like Rick I've seen them all I think, all over the net. Big fan.

If you haven't seen earlier episodes you should as they were mostly unplugged with Daryls dear friend, collaborator and musical direct T-Bone Wolk doing most of the arranging. From that era the first one with Todd Rungren is brilliant, as is one with the country singer Jimmy Wayne is just brilliant. He tells some great stories and outdoes Daryl on Sara Smile.

Monty Montgomery was a great early show and another favourite of mine was with Train post T-Bone's passing. Actually the 'Remembering T-Bone' show itself is damn fine and not at all mawkish. Daryl's rendition of 'I Miss You' here is probably one of his finest performances.

I love the show and every episode has something special in, if only the cooking! The recent Jeoe Walsh show was excellent and showed the man himself in fine form. Daryl has a mega backing band in the house. I've banged on about the show many a time and there is an old thread on here somewhere from me. Sure it is Daryls thing and yes, it keeps him in the public eye,but he is a great musician and performer in his own right and as many of the artists have been 'new' talent he has certainly opened my eyes to some of them.

Joe would do well to get on there. I think it would work well!

Exactly! That is just the feeling I get from it. What's nice is the pre-amble as the chosen artist is 'en-route' to Daryls's house. You can sense they are nervous to appearing with him just as he is as excited to be playing with them! It is great to see that enthusiasm for the music and doing something new with somebody new.

Check your reputation and ego at the door and just plug and play.

Just to remind anybody who isn't aware - as I note some of you have said you catch it when it is on TV - if you go to the website every episode is in the archive there. Just select and watch it on your PC. There is some epic stuff on there. Every one has a great musical high point and a culinary delight.

You can't whack it!

Here's a link to the KT Tunstall.  For the Bonnie Raitt fans, it's "Let's Give Them Something To Talk About".

Enjoy, and don't be a critic....sometimes music is just for listening to.

EDIT:  Forgot the link, it's late here, and I should be in bed, not cruising the forums. tongue  The link below provides access to the full KT show, all songs from it.  Check out the artists at work, working out "Black Horse...."

I try to catch this whenever I can.  I've seen Darryl play with Grace Potter to Cee Lo Green.  I like it a lot.  It doesn't seem to matter what guests he has, it's always fun to watch.  It would be especially fun to see Joe on that show.  I wonder what they would sing. smile

Re: Live From Daryls House

son and I accidentally ran upon it last night, first time view. It was rather an odd time, came on at 5:00 CDT. Sometimes it pays to flip stations. He had Booker T on the show and it was great. They did a rousing Green Onions. The showstopper was the last song and I can't even remember the name. Let's just say Darryl did a wonderful job on the vocals, he killed it. Very good 2nd guitarist on a Tele, some fine pickin. and some guy on sax that was tremendous. Only problem we had was the drummer who looked like he was pissed off at the world, or had just dropped a load in his pants, couldn't tell which. Darryl's own fresh hams were assembled to the green egg, not a lot of detail but they chatted and laughed a lot. I'll try to catch it again, it was that good.

As corn through a goose, so are the days of our lives

Ha...I'm replying to myself! lol Actually I'm updating.

Thumbs up to Daryl's multi-talented house band member Eliot Lewis for sending Daryl's used guitar strings to StringsforaCURE. Hall and Oates are currently first time nominees for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, 2014.

Also, thanks to Eliot for sending in his guitar strings.  Everytime I now hear the popular Average White Band songs, I think of Eliot, as a past band member.

Here's an interview from August where Eliot plugs Joe as one of his favorite contemporary musicians! wink

HINT..HINT...Eliot if you read this, have Daryl invite Joe B. on the show, then you get to play with one of your favorites!! smile

I've picked up some of his solo stuff and his guitar playing reminds me a bit of Eric Johnson with that great tone thing.  Can definitely hear the AWB sound lurking.  Pretty talented musician.

Just a fun fact Joe's current tech Mike Hickey teched for Hall and Oates for several years and was involved in some of the early produced shows. Daryl is definitely aware of Joe.

Re: Live From Daryls House

Hi Jim,

Definitely a fun fact, I learn something new everyday. wink Music connects people on so many different paths, it is amazing!!

I just learned that Daryl's worked with Robert Fripp of King Crimson in the late 70's....they worked on each other's solo efforts. Also, as a longtime fan of the Supremes, I was surprised to find out Daryl co-wrote and produced a hit for Diana Ross, that hit big on the 80' s dance scene.  The 80's...a very interesting transitional time in music.
