Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

Anyone at Matt Schofield's gig in Litchfield on Saturday had a treat - Aynsley showed up with guitar and amp.

Here's what happened:-  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3t4kDqv6_g

PS - the date stamp on the clip is wrong; should read 9/3/13 (or for folk in the US - 3/9/13)

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

A long, long time ago – well, Saturday evening actually; in a Blues Club far, far away – to anyone south of Nottingham; in a land where Boy-bands roam at will, 2 Fender Jedi knights arrived in a small town and in a pyrotechnic display of digital dexterity energised the local populace.

Or, on May 4th – Jedi Day, Aynsley Lister and Mitch Laddie rolled into Sedgefield and quite simply rocked the place to its medieval core.

Mitch was up first; Sedgefield pulling the starting time as early as they dared to give the band as much playtime as possible and Mitch, Rhian & Matt took it and ran full tilt. From the opener  Time Is Running Away Mitch was on top form, leaping round the stage and firing off blazing solo after blazing solo. Paper In Your Pocket and Inner City Blues,  indictments on current times written 40 years apart growled and snarled, alongside Mitch’s funkier moments like This Time Around and a new take on What Is Hip before he signed off his hour with Them Changes. No Surprise that Sedgefield wasn’t going to let Mitch go at that, despite time creeping round – he was called back for a rapid encore and a 7” run through Voodoo Chile.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlRwT0ZCYPo

After a short interval, time for the main man: Aynsley is the first headliner to re-appear at Sedgefield and this time he brought along, not only his brand, spanking new album but also his mates Andre Basing, Steve Amadeo and Boneto Dryden to play it, well, 3 quarters of it in the second airing of a new tour set.

Hero set the tone, and from there, Early Morning Dew settled people down, ready to be introduced to the newer material. Steve Amadeo got everything in a groove for Inside Out  ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqYEX3ePlIk )which has been road-tested for a while now, as has Sugar, but Aynsley “sweetened” it a bit by inviting Mitch back on stage to trade some hot licks. New song Hyde got a very warm reception before the more familiar What’s It All About lead into Insatiable and the monster track Home that’s the album title track.

After a short interval where Aynsley was invited to present raffle prizes, as well as some calls to do bingo (howay! Its a northern club – what did you expect?), things  started with another newbie, Straight Talkin’ Woman, a cracking blues stomper that got feet and hands going and will probably exercise a few vocal chords in gigs to come. Not content with that, another brand new song, Free came along and just blew everyone away with the passion and power Aynsley put into it. Then, he unchained his voice as well as Andre on keys for Feeling Good and then the whole band got everyone rocking and a good number dancing for Possession and set closer, again, a set newbie,  Aynsley’s take on financial woes, Broke.

Aynsley and the band were on top form, even this early into a new tour, and certainly won’t going to be let off lightly; they were called back for encore; Running Out On Me was the track of choice, and great choice before a dazzling Purple Rain. If it hadn’t taken things right up to curfew, who knows what else we may have got, the band was having a good night, the audience were having a great night; CDs were flying out the door.

Yep, the Jedi certainly felt this one. This one was felt by a venue capacity audience and probably have sold a 2nd night. If you want to feel it, recommend you scoot along to Bury next week-end where it's been changed from solo/duo to full band gig. And don't forget Aynsley at hebden Bridge before he swings through Germany for a while.

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

As for the new album; we’ve waited a couple of years for this, watching some of the songs mature and develop on the road, and like a fine wine or single malt, Aynsley has refused to be rushed until now. Probably the finest 55 minutes of rockin’ blues Aynsley has yet produced and most likely the best for 2013 - certainly set my benchmark for the year.

You’ve got 12 tracks comming at yer, kicking off with the monster Home, which will probably have David Coverdale on the phone wanting to borrow: one of those rumbling slow blues shuffles beloved of vintage Whitesnake. I’m not doing a song-by-song dissection, but watchout for Inside Out - it’s insidiously infectious, one that stays in my head after each listen. I’d put money on Free being highly rated in the future, this is new to the live set list, but one that’s sure to be an Aynsley staple; great tribute to someone who must have been an amazing guy. Feeling Good, one of 2 covers, doesn’t have the OTT bombast of Muse’s take, and is the better for it: the other cover being a James Morrison number. Impossible, well, that’s what you get for letting Andre tune the jazz stations while on the road; it’s another song that will work its way under you skin; definite N’Orlean’s vibe before shooting up the Mississippi for Straight Talkin’ Woman, and a stomping, sing-along finale.

Without doubt, the most overtly “Blues” album Aynsley’s done in the last 10 years, but without losing sight of the rockier side. Its as if he’s taken the first 2 albums and the last 2 albums and distilled the very best from them. Having the band in the studio has given everything a great feel, you’ve not only got 4 great musicians in the studio, but 4 mates who bring the best out of each other. Andre’s Hammond dueling with Aynsley’s guitar is like listening to a lovesick tomcat duetting with a horny angel with Steve’s bass adding counterpoint. Wayne Proctor demonstrating why he’s the British “go-to” guy on drumstool as well as the producer’s chair, only because Boneto hadn’d settled with the band at time of recording, but on the road, he’s now the “Beats Master”.

This is one album you can shout - “Daddy’s Home!!!”

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

Looking forward to an Aynsley Lister concert at a SOLD OUT Cafe Steinbruch tomorrow in Duisburg.
Hope to get my copy of the new album.

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

Home is definitely a very cool album, picked up a copy at Hebden Bridge Blues Festival where his performance with his band was spellbinding. Not content with his own set Aynsley also contributed to the midnight jam session for three consecutive nights as well as jamming with other musicians during their sets on the Saturday and sunday, he was having a ball.
Good to see him happier than I can remember both personally and professionally.

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

Aynsley will be the opening headliner at the Maryport Blues Festival ( 26 - 28 July) on Friday, 26 July.

Saturday, 27 July Bernie Marsden will follow.
By the way BB King once said: " Only two white men could play the blues: Eric Clapton and that guy from Whitesnake..." Maybe he forgot to mention JoBo?!

Sunday, 28 July my friend Ian Parker and his Band featuring Morg Morgan will finish the gigantic line up!

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

Welcome back in Hamburg today, Aynsley!!!

Gonna see him in a few hours at the Downtown Bluesclub . . .

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

Not that much time so very short: good show yesterday at Cafe Steinbruch in Duisburg ... have fun ... and don't forget to buy the new album. We will listen to "Home" on our way to Viersen to the acoustic gig of Ryan.
Can't wait - album and acoustic gig.

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

I'm pleased with the new CD (Thank you Maggie). I really enjoy The Tower Sessions and this one has maintained the same feel. One day I'll see another live show wink

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

Aynsley Lister's new album, Home,  is fantastic.  Don't pass this one up...

Re: Welcome back Aynsley Lister!!!

If anyone can get to Robin2, Bilston for July 5th, Aynsley is having the launch party for the new album. Details are still being hammered out, but so far, Ron Sayer Jr. will be starting the evening off and maybe helping to close it down.
