I do worry that I am disturbing people when I do the videos, so I try and hold it in close which makes it difficult for me to see if it is out of focus, but I just try and hope the camera is doing it's job at focusing. The bifocal part of glasses are never helpful when that close. I wish they had a dimmer option for the screen because you really don't need it that bright. But at least the videos are being viewed. Two of the Warren Haynes ones have about 5500 views the other has 2800 and the Earl Slick has 1200. Not bad for 5 days.

Re: Beacon Theater 5/18/13

I agree that your videos get views, definitely.  I'm one who does and appreciates, like I said.  But the folks around you won't all find their way to them.  That's what I meant about just potentially being a distraction, for some folks.

And as I also said, I know that the forum faithful try to get their "fix" (and ours) as unobtrusively as possible.  Wish that were true for everyone that feels compelled to record the event.  But it is what it is, and pales compared to the spectacle that Joe puts on, up there on stage.  He's the "distraction" I paid for, and he's what I focus on.

Speaking of "focus", I hear you about the bifocals.  (I wear progressive lenses, when I'm not wearing contacts, and using readers for close up work.)  But I would be in the same boat, hoping the camera was focusing properly, if I were you.  wink

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

I use a darkening static film over the screen.  Flip it up if you really need to see something and then pat it back down.   http://www.amazon.com/Grafix-9-Inch-12- … B005M8OP2O

A bronze cling would be better since framing would  be impossible with black. I'm going to do some experimenting. That glow is what alerts the vidcops and annoys those who seem to look for annoyances.

I think I'm going to get the pack with assorted colors, then you can try different ones and see what works best.

the bronze might not be dark enough especially if you really need to be stealth, but experiment away!

not for nothing but i go to about 100 to 150 shows a year and when the ticket says 8pm i make sure i am in my seat 10 minutes before the start time . i know that most bands don't come on until 8;20 or later but i have been seeing joe since he was a small kid and when he started to headline his own shows he has always been on the stage at the time the tickets said . so if you have been to joe shows before you should know this . as for the crowds at the shows its not just joe shows it's all concerts the more the ticket prices are the more rude people are getting at shows seems to me that people are all about themselfs and do not care if the guy/gal next to them is being annoyed by them .another thing that bothers me is why do people feel the need to yell joes name out or other stupid stuff during the low parts in the songs i don't get that do they think that joe is going to stop playing and say i love you  back to them and why is it that it's always guys yelling out that they love joe is there some kind off closet thing going on i don't know about . so all in all there should be a check list that comes with every ticket on things you should'nt do at shows and number one on my list is STFU and listen to the music if you feel the need to talk to the people you went to the show with take it out in the lobby .  ok i think i'm done ..

its was great meeting you guys also . speaking of the dead i am converting over 8/1/82 show right now then going to work on some greek theater shows i did with my friend . it never ends hopefully we can hook up this year or next year when joe is in town and hang for a little long time . once again nice meeting you guys keep on taping .

Ah, makes you yearn for the days of the quiet taper's section at the Dead shows. By the way, it was great to meet you. It's nice to know there are other people out there addicted to collecting live recordings. I certainly can't give Phil any crap now about how many he has, knowing what your wife is dealing with wink

My addiction started in 1961, sneaking an Aiwa reel to reel into a movie theater for West Side Story a half a dozen times! I was in recovery until I discovered Zappateers and started collecting, and then the Wall tour for taping. But its really Joe that's caused me to fall off the wagon!

No doubt Phil will check out the Dead you put up to see if he has it, there were a lot of shows done at the greek. And if you ever have some spare time, a little early Joe thrown in every now and then would be greatly appreciated. It's hard to come by and if it wasn't for Jane we wouldn't have any.
