Topic: RIP Ray Manzarek from the Doors

Ray passed away today from a long battle of cancer.  He was 74.

Re: RIP Ray Manzarek from the Doors

Sad... but no more suffering.

Re: RIP Ray Manzarek from the Doors

This is really quite sad, I am a HUGE Doors fan! I last saw Ray & Robbie last September in Atlantic City. The time before that, Ray was so sweet, he acknowledged me when I held up my L.A. Woman album cover when they played that song. (yeah, I hear ya'...cheap thrills)

I had never seen the Doors perform, so it was such a treat all these years later to see these 2 originals carry on as Riders on the Storm. They put on a fantastic show!!

For several years, my favorite lipstick color was Love Her Madly, until it was discontinued...I always wondered if someone at that makeup company was a Doors fan! wink

This hasn't really sunk in yet, very sad day indeed. RIP Ray, thanks for the music...

RIP Ray

Re: RIP Ray Manzarek from the Doors

RIP Ray. I grew up with their music and  the Doors were one of the most important band for me in the sixties and seventies. Always loved and will love their timeless music.

I was very sad to hear of his passing.  He was one of those people you just thought would always be around.

Ray was quite the character and I could just see the big smile you put on his face with that Album Cover Angela. I think he would have gotten a kick out of your lipstick story too Angela.  I could see you two having quite the conversation smile

I loved Ray because he loved to talk.  He talked as quickly as he played the keyboards.  He was quite the storyteller.

It was so great that they continued on and kept performing.  His keyboards are just iconic.  You can recognize them the instant you hear it.

Gonna miss you Ray, you were just part of that Scene

+1 from me. My older brother bought their first album and I borrowed it ceaselessly. It's a classic and it influenced my musical taste enormously. A sad day indeed.

I hear ya' loud & clear RiverCat! wink

SO, SO Happy I got to see Ray in September. He was more subdued than the other performance, it made me wonder now, if he wasn't feeling well then.

Re: RIP Ray Manzarek from the Doors

Oh man this is sad news indeed. The Doors are one of my favourite bands and I regularly play their vinyl albums. Used to have all their singles too. Going to see a Doors Alive tribute band on Saturday so it's gonna be poignant.

Re: RIP Ray Manzarek from the Doors

Seen him last July...
Didn´t expect it would be the last time ... sad

Re: RIP Ray Manzarek from the Doors

The Doors Alive tribute band had a minute silence for Ray before last night's gig. Nice touch. Then did a blistering set starting with Back Door Man and finishing with The End.

I can highly recommend these guys. My 4th time seeing them and it would be hard to find a more respectable Jimbo. The Hammond organ drives the songs.........

Re: RIP Ray Manzarek from the Doors

I don't listen to them so much these days, but I was really big into The Doors in the early/mid 1980s. I remember I went to a Doors convention somewhere in London where the remaining band members were in attendance. Must have been about 1985ish. I was able to spend some time chatting with Ray. I was very young at the time, probably a little starstruck as it was the first I had ever met and spoken to a proper rock star on a one to one basis. But Ray was such a nice guy who had time for everyone.
