I wasn't at the show in New York , but you can bet your rear I will be there next year. I was at the Minneapolis and Rockford Il . as well as Chicago shows. I only jumped on the bandwagon in early 2009 . This traveling show is simply amazing. With the addition of Tal and Arlan it just has morphed into something quite different than it was . Its getting to be a fusion of many music genres , all of which they play well. Who ever is running this show is a freeking genius.   I thought Joe was nuts when he announced his acoustic tour . I was wrong . The mostly blues show has transformed into a mix of genres . When Joe has a guest or two it just lights it up like a supernova . Its hard to make any money when you bring out guests at the shows , but its so damn cool. If Joe gets tired of what he is doing now , no problem . Man the sky is the limit and the door is wide open . Classic rock show , acoustic show , blues show , Rock Candy Funk , it really doesn't matter. I can only imagine what an all Classic Rock show with surprise guests would be like . But if Joe decided to do just that in the bigger venues , it would be off the hook. Arlan with his foot on top of the keyboard , Tal on fire with drum solo's and Carmine classy as can be on the bottom. I tell ya its time to bring out the Zebra pattern suit Joe. Joe Bonamassa is in his own league right now . His singing is better with every show and his playing is other worldly . My rant goes on . As Joe tours more and more . The time is right for more than one music genre shows . Some of my friends like his acoustic stuff better than his electric . But I am an electric junky for sure. If he ever decides to do an all Classic Rock show , it will be amazing to say the least. But whatever you do Joe , Im sure it will be a world class production of the finest live music anywhere on this planet and maybe in the universe.

Not in all my days, and in all the concerts I have been to, have a seen such poor etiquette at a concert.  This is the Beacon Theater people.....not Giants stadium!   The Beacon has a rich history of having some the greatest performances in history, and Joe and his Band are part of that history.  For the first half hour of that show people were still coming in and trying to find their seats; first and foremost (IMHO), a complete disrespect for the people on stage, not to mention being very disruptive to everyone else who chose to actually show up on time, and be where they were supposed to be when the lights went down....IN THEIR SEATS. 

If you were one of "those" people last night, and you consider yourself to be a "huge fan"....... try showing up on time next time.

OK.....off my box now.

Again, Joe thank you again for a great musical experience, can't wait to see you again in November; my 6 /o daughter was very upset she couldn't be at the concert last night, so I told her I would bring her to one of the Atlanta shows in November.  Continue doing your thing, and showing that the Blues are still alive!

Was at the Friday show and thought I would comment on here. I am a huge Joe fan and this was my maybe 30th show. Got tickets in February, hotel room 30 minutes away in Greenwich Ct. Left the hotel at 5pm, then IT happened! The most epic back up from an accident near The GWB. We took 3 hours to get into the city. I know my way around and every artery was backed up. So I was one of "those people." I have never missed one second of a show and to spend all that $ and miss the whole acoustic set, plus Slow Train made it a Trying evening. I did my best to get into it, just didn't get the whole effect of a Joe Bonamassa evening. So a real review from me wouldn't be proper.
On another note, yes the crowd is changing and it isn't always a good thing. Where we sit transfixed for the whole two hours, most are there for the party also.

Wow, I can only imagine how incredibly frustrating and annoying that was. I know I would have been just losing it. So sorry that happened to you.

Well I apologize for my somewhat blanket statement, but you definitely are not one of "those people" as your situation was unavoidable, but I digress.  I was just brought up with strict sense of concert etiquette and when that doesn't happen I turn into my high school band director :-). 

Lets get back to the positive things now!!!

It was a fantastic show! \m/ It was even more enjoyable when shared with very good friends. smile

A big Thank You to Joe, Roy, Clay and the entire crew for all their hard work. Enjoy your summer and we'll see y'all in the fall I hope.



As a side note, I'm not bothered by people getting up or moving about. That's just the way it is. I dont want to sit and become a statue. Manners, yes of course but we're not at some opera folks. Try attending a Gov't Mule or ABB show. big_smile

RESPONSE: The problem is that most acts do not start at the exact minute listed on the ticket like Joe does. I didn't know this and arrived at 8:10. Starting concerts exactly on time is not exactly standard industry practice in the music business. Joe's management can prevent this. If Joe likes to start at 8 PM, they should list 7:30 on the ticket or at the very least say 8 PM prompt. I was disappointed I missed the first two songs, and it won;t happen again, but I disagree I was disrespectful or guilty of poor etiquette.

not for nothing but i go to about 100 to 150 shows a year and when the ticket says 8pm i make sure i am in my seat 10 minutes before the start time . i know that most bands don't come on until 8;20 or later but i have been seeing joe since he was a small kid and when he started to headline his own shows he has always been on the stage at the time the tickets said . so if you have been to joe shows before you should know this . as for the crowds at the shows its not just joe shows it's all concerts the more the ticket prices are the more rude people are getting at shows seems to me that people are all about themselfs and do not care if the guy/gal next to them is being annoyed by them .another thing that bothers me is why do people feel the need to yell joes name out or other stupid stuff during the low parts in the songs i don't get that do they think that joe is going to stop playing and say i love you  back to them and why is it that it's always guys yelling out that they love joe is there some kind off closet thing going on i don't know about . so all in all there should be a check list that comes with every ticket on things you should'nt do at shows and number one on my list is STFU and listen to the music if you feel the need to talk to the people you went to the show with take it out in the lobby .  ok i think i'm done ..

Ah, makes you yearn for the days of the quiet taper's section at the Dead shows. By the way, it was great to meet you. First of all when I see an act I make it my business to know what time an artist starts. I am ALWAYS in my seat before the scheduled time. Don't blame Joe for starting when the ticket states. Blame the artists who start 45 minutes late. And any research on the Beacon site would have shown doors open at 7, show to start promptly at 8. Take some responsibility on yourself rather than blaming the artist. That's a lot of the problem these days; the majority of people want to blame everyone else but themselves.

For those that got stuck in traffic that's a legitimate excuse; my partner had it take her almost four hours from central NJ.

And in general this was one of the more well behaved I've seen in years. Only a few aholes making multiple beer and subsequent bathroom breaks. And just about the entire crowd seated aside from applause at the end of songs.

How refreshing to be standing with 20K or so fans at Doheney, 95% of whom had either obstructed vision by a sea of other fans, or were so far away they needed binoculars. The only cheers were after smoking solos or end of song. A pal had a friend who tapes go over to get a bit of Kid Ramos who was on at the same time. When he tried to return to the main stage VIP area he said the crowd was so packed to see Joe it was impossible to get within 150 yards of the main stage.

I hear ya on STFU. I've turned to folks at seated venues and informed them I didn't pay to hear their yammer and to kindly be quiet. If they persist I tend to be quite cranky and in their face the second time. It always works for me. (Being fairly good sized, hairy, bearded and a little wild looking doesn't hurt with the intimidation factor either. lol )

Not to go off topic, but just got to see Tony Franklin (aka the Fretless Monster) with KWS last Saturday (great show), so I enjoyed the reference to him.

On topic, or one of the sub topics anyway....

As Joe's popularity grows, and PBS keeps firing off tickets to anyone with money to pledge, the fans who are more casual but still want to attend a Joe concert (and the "party" that we all consider it to be) are going to keep showing up in greater numbers.  Just as we all don't party the same way, we all don't concert-go in the same way, it is what it is.

I understand the many points of view on this subject.  But here in the US (at least), many people don't go to a show just to sit transfixed, like the rest of us.  As another example of a legitimate reason for that, my sister was in attendance with me on May 1st in Chicago.  She had gastric bypass surgery, last December.  One of the side effects...despite managing her food intake beforehand...a need to go to the bathroom, at some point.  No alcohol involved, and not much food, either, for that matter.

I guess she was one of "those people"?  I'm not making excuses for all the "boors".  But sometimes a spade isn't a spade now, is it?

On a related note (and I know this has been discussed elsewhere on the forums), I remember the good old days when people all around me didn't have some honking LED screen lit up the whole time (or nearly), while they snapped picture after picture or videotaped the proceedings, throughout the show.  Maybe we held up lighters here and there.  But we didn't light up the darkened venue with our electronic gadgets.  I don't let it mar my enjoyment, but it requires selective attention to what I'm there for....

My latest 2 cents on the subject.

EDIT:  Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the picture sets, and the videos.  But some aren't ever going to check out your output.  I'm betting to them, YOU'RE the "distraction".

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.
