The videos I took are not the quality that I would have preferred, the location of our seats caused the spotlights to mess with the camera's sensors, so things come out over exposed and washed out. And the hairy mountain of a man in front of me definitely made it difficult to follow Joe. But here goes anyway.

I love Joe's solo on this and luckily he was over on our side when he was doing it.

I'm going to have to get you a booster seat and shears! wink  Nice job in spite of the handicaps.

Yeah, A booster seat would be helpful smile!
I love that when you have such top notch musicians that the jams and improvisations are always different each time the song is played here is "Look Over Yonders Wall" for Rocket and everyone else

So sorry Joe didn't play Pain & Sorrow 'specially for you!  He MUST have been really ill and even delirious to have missed that!!

So sorry to hear about the large drunk.  The usher should have called security backup. Sounds like a great show.  See you before the Beacon shows!

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

It was great to see some of the usual suspects, sorry I missed meeting the rest of you.  We got to the packed Alewife at 6:30 on the dot, but seating took a bit and food was slow, though service was cheerful and efficient. We had to wolf our burgers and head over but managed to run into 3 non-forum friends/couples of ours from various backgrounds along the way.  Always a plus to see new fans turned on to Joe's magic. Our balcony seats afforded a great view despite a couple of guys in the small section below us spending half their time getting up for drinks and their consequences. Sound was wonderful, though there are always a few yeeha's who have to be heard when the quiet pieces are played. It's rare to get the other half out on a week night (he was even on-call this week and had to switch with a coworker), but the big grin on his face and thunderous applause all night said it all. Wish we could have hung out with some of you and met a few more before having to race home, but as luck would have it, we ran into Jim and Tate on the way out, as we always seem to do, and managed to catch up with them for a brief bit - we gotta plan a trip WITH you guys one of these days. Another great show by a guy who doesn't let a cold, sinuses, drippy nose keep him down - whose voice showed nary a hint of any of that going on, who chose some vocal challenges despite it all with amazing ability. He truly gives us his all, and looked spent as he smiled and waved goodbye from the stage. Ah, where's the next show....

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Here is "Ballad of John Henry" Just love the way Joe and the guys are doing this song now. Arlan sneaks in a wee bit of Fly Like An Eagle on his solo. The few moments at the end when Joe stops after his killer solo are cut off because the big guy in front of me stood up and I had this less then lovely view of his butt crack. The drunk guy's woman said "Ha, Ha. Take a picture of that!" She sounded just like the big kid Nelson from the Simpsons. Needless to say I stopped filming at that point.

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Yes, Jane, I was hoping to catch up with you as well, seems I always just miss you and I always see Bob who says, did you see Jane (or Cathy, who I also missed this show).  Jim and Tate said you were seated in front of them I think.  Ah, well, one of these days.  Maybe I'll finally get to a M&G too, on my bucket list :^)

sorry but i had to laugh at that even though really not funny.

thanks again to you guys and others for recording and sharing
I did really dig TBOJH and of course Arlan.
only thing that seemed weird to me is something that i think i just would need getting used to?
i forget which song(s) but Joe practically just stopped, like he was finished i thought then started again. same with Arlan. I kept thinking gosh they shortened the song then it would go on. and one song it happened a few times.
no biggie just kinda different

Cherri, i hadn't met you before so didn't know who to look out for but did think of you. glad you met up with some

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Jane, thanks for your in depth review.  I love hearing what other folks think of Joe's shows. Since you are a veteran Joe fan, your review means a lot to me.   I agree with the Mountain Time love.   I have  about  five songs that play in my head if I am not actively listening to something.  Mountain Time is one of those.  It is just so sweet and joyous.  I love Joe's hard rocking side but I really like it when he slows it down and shows us this side of his talent. Plus the guitar on this is just mind blowing.

Thanks to everyone else for the reviews.  These reviews, set lists and videos are keeping me sane.  I was not able to swing  tickets for the spring tour.  It was buy the litho and get a meet and greet for the fall or go to spring tour.  I opted for the meet and greet.   So keep the info coming.  It really helps me.

I love the set list for this show so good.  One thing about Joe is that he knows how to please his fans.

Sorry to digress - Mary, I agree!!  Jane, your avatar is humorous and actually somewhat poignant for me.  The divorce finally came through (they are always sad but in this case good for me) and once in a while I fleetingly consider if I would ever marry again.  In that unlikely event, I cannot imagine being connected with someone who is not a ravenous Joe fan!!!  That would be right near the top of my list!  Hmm, if not, guess I could always try to convert him.  haha     wink

Oh crap, you're right Jane. When you upload these things you can't always see what it is at first, it's just a file number and I left it to upload while I picked up Cassidy from college. The name is changed to Midnight Blues and I will do SILT next.

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Okay, so here is "So It's Like That". Was really cool that Joe played this since Phil and I hadn't seen it yet. I had a feeling Joe would do something a little different for all those diehard Baltimore fans. Thanks Joe!

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Great review Jane as always and sorry Joe didn't play "Richmond" and I certainly do hope that it is on the setlist when he comes to Richmond this fall. I've been waiting alot of years to hear it in Richmond and after Joe doing it in Vienna has only fueled the prospect of him doing it here.

Sorry to hear about the drunkin jerk at the show. Never will be able to understand those people. Thanks for the videos and really love what Joe and Arlan are doing with "The Ballad of John Henry".

joe ripped it up last night . had a great time at show . it was great meeting alot of people from the forum . after the beacon shows i will upload the boston, albany, philly, baltimore and 3 beacon shows i recorded .

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

I think this version of "Athens to Athens" was just amazing, better than the one in Las Vegas. Nice extended solo by Joe and loved the little smiles Joe kept giving. He really seemed to be enjoying himself despite not feeling well. Video is of better quality than the others of this night.

I can see why those are your favorites. They are just the sweetest pictures of your family with Arlan, Tal and Carmine. It was really nice meeting you and your wife. Hopefully we'll meet again at some future Beth or Joe show.

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Didn't want you guys to think we forgot about you... I'm just out of practice and posted in the General Topics section. So great to see so many of you again, and many for the first time! It's not enough to see Joe any more, it's nice to get the opportunity to reconnect with you on the forum!

We're planning on hitting all the big blues festivals in this area again this year -- we must protect this genre, right? -- so we're sure to see more of you later, starting with this weekend!

If I am successful in posting my not-the-best-quality 24-minute video of Joe's finale in Baltimore (with only a short commercial interruption brought to you by Nyquil -- the green stuff) on YouTube, be sure to watch for a head-banging Jane cameo! Girl, you rock! \m/
