Topic: Baltimore, Hippodrome

What a night! Went from having a great time before the show with everyone from the forum and getting a wonderful hug and kiss on the cheek from Tal as he walked by from the bus to the venue to nearly being beaten up by some large drunk guy during the show and who continued to try and pick a fight with Phil even after the show. I mean the guy literally stood up and hovered over me during Django yelling F U at me because I had turned around and given him a dirty look while he was talking and being obnoxious. And Joe was just on fire! You would never have known he was sick because he was just all keyed up and whaling on those guitars! Of course he did admit to being on all kinds of drugs so maybe that helped wink Quite the excitement overall!

Wow! What a night. From far out to freaked out. yikes You should have called an usher and reported that bozo and had him tossed. It is really sad that a few bad eggs continue to spoil it for many.
Thanks for the report and set list. Joe always gives us his best no matter how bad he feels.

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

The usher was right there and made the guy sit back down, but I think the usher was a little intimidated by the guy as well because he was over 6 ft tall and probably 250 lbs. Considering how huge he was, it was just pathetic he kept trying to pick a fight. I mean Phil's like 5'4" and I'm 5'2" and he kept calling Phil a p###y and wanted to take it "outside" It was just insane.

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

I know I "preach" a bit, at times, about making allowances for folks who might not be quite as into the whole concert experience as we "Joe faithful", but your experience with that fool is not what I mean, by any stretch.

Glad you had the rest of the awesome night to temper that bad part of it.  Times like that a handy pocket taser would be nice, not that you could get away with having one.  Unless maybe it looked like the remote for a car.  Nothing that would cause permanent damage, just let the lug sleep off the rest of the show quietly.  That sort of intimidation has no place, anywhere, let alone in a concert.

On the other hand, "the look" almost always triggers that sort of response, even when the person receiving it is deserving.  I do understand why you did it, though.

Often, but not always, Joe's performance alone manages to keep all but the biggest jerks enthralled.  There were points at the latest Chicago Theatre show where (if Joe had stopped), you could have heard a pin drop, at least around me.  Still, I got "the look" at one point, just for sharing the experience with my brother-in-law, seated next to me, just because we exchanged two short sentences.  And not overly loudly.  And wouldn't you know, the person who gave us that "look" was up and down out of their seat several times, and also did some chatting with their buddy, too.  I don't have a moral to that story, other than "glass houses"--though I'm not referring to your situation.

Sounds like you didn't get to see a guest appearance, huh?

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Thanks for the set list & CANNOT wait to see the vids! I hate you had to deal with the jerk though, shame the usher wasn't a little more assertive. I know the alcohol is usually to blame but just don't get why people go to a concert and try to have a conversation? At the Black Key a few days ago, the guy in front of me talked through the whole show, got the impression the girl wasn't that interested and was trying to enjoy the show too, to make matters worse he was a lot taller than her so everytime he would say something he would lean up & down and block my view so I had to keep moving around just to see the stage! UGHH! Can't remember where I read this it may have been here and not sure if it is reality somewhere or just someone's wishful thinking? The theater seats have a sign on the back and if someone is annoying you text the seat number and the ushers will assist you! This is genius!

Natasha, you should have called your posse smile I was bragging to Sandy and Mags how proud I was that every seat was full and everybody behaved. I promise you won't have that problem in Amsterdam wink

As for the show, it was so much better than last night in Philly. I know Joe's still ill, but the drug/alcohol combo he cited tonight appeared to be effective! lol  I got a set list with the guitars he used. I'm hoping somebody posts a pic of it. And the set list changed from last night. I loved seeing everybody again. We had a wonderful pre-show hang with everybody as well as the chance to visit with the band. I'll write more tomorrow about the specifics wink

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Cathy, you crack me up! I think the only obnoxious guy was the one by us. It was great how everyone was really quiet during Joe's quiet parts. I think our guy was out getting another drink at that point.

I'll be putting some videos up at some point, but unfortunately there was a big guy with lots of hair right in front of us in the pit seats and I had to keep going from one side of his head to the other because Joe is always walking all over the place smile

I just saw Joe's twitter picture of the show and I can see us as well as Maggie and Cathy!

Get and keep those heads into the picture!  The 3D projects coming soon they will be a "like being there" virtual reality requirement!  wink cool By the way, I have the algorithm for Joe Bonamassa stage movement tracking but I cannot share it as it has portions of a missile control algorithm incorporated that shall not be divulged! smile

Looking forward to more posts for review, and Natasha, I can wait patiently.  Thanks!

Natasha, regardingthis set list. I think this would be the perfect show.  Hate that some drunk dude with issues had to ruin it for you at the beginning of Joe's most beautiful song(imo).  Thanks for sharing with us and I look forward to what happens at Beacon.  You are living a dream week  of Joe and his music.

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

Wow what a great show! They did some really interesting things last  night, some extended versions of a few songs that were much more musically "exploratory" than the last show of Joe's I was at (which admittedly was a couple years ago). John Henry was just out of this world! They all seemed to be having a good time, and Joe was really on fire despite - or maybe because of! big_smile - all his cold meds.

Cathy, Jane, Manoj, Sandra, ... I'm forgetting a bunch of names and I apologize, but it was great hanging with you all before the show, that really added to the experience. And seeing Tal, Carmine, and Arlan on the sidewalk outside was truly the icing on the cake for me!!! They are true gentlemen, and a pleasure to chat with.

I have a ton of pictures (had a photo pass), I will post some as soon as I go through them...

Most of my pictures of Joe soloing (using the point and shoot from my seat) have a lovely shot of the security guy (who had the biggest head and poofy hair I've ever seen and spent more time facing Joe and not the audience) and/or the four foot tall microphone at the side of the stage.  We had the three front row seats on the left and they really should have been sold as obstructed view.  sad

Awesome show overall.  Great meeting so many new and old faces again.  We ate at the venue's restaurant and the menu actually had a picture of Joe on it (they print new ones daily).

The set list was slightly changed from the Boston and Philly shows.  I am so loving the newest version of John Henry.  The solo by Arlan is incredible, and Joe's guitar just growls.  Lately either this song or Dislocated boy seems stuck in my head.  Joe joked about having to get the manger at the CVS to approve all his purchases for his cold, but whatever he was on seemed to work quite well.

Lovely theater (yes Jim I took some pictures and will post when I get home) and overall the audience was great (Natasha's buddy excepted).  Quiet and respectful where they should be, rowdy when called for.  Lots of standing O's.

I have been to the Boston, Philly and Baltimore shows doing a little mini-tour with my friend Maggie who is visiting from the UK.  All three shows have been great, but sadly are now over.  No more Joe (as of right now) until next years shows are announced.    sad

As much as I love taking pictures of Joe, these three are far and away my favorite shots of the whole evening. Great big thanks to Tal, Carmine, and Arlan!

Re: Baltimore, Hippodrome

The videos I took are not the quality that I would have preferred, the location of our seats caused the spotlights to mess with the camera's sensors, so things come out over exposed and washed out. And the hairy mountain of a man in front of me definitely made it difficult to follow Joe. But here goes anyway.

I love Joe's solo on this and luckily he was over on our side when he was doing it.
