Re: Wang Boston Smoking show

Can you give me a little help? I recognized Gary's name, but have no recollection of his history.

Re: Wang Boston Smoking show

Is anybody aware of posted videos showing Gary with Joe?  (I don't own a lot of Gary's material, but am a fan.)

I had a poke around YouTube, but if there's anything, I didn't find it.

EDIT:  (An interesting aside, to me anyway, is that Gary raised funds for the "Deja Blues" project via the Kickstarter site.)

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Re: Wang Boston Smoking show

To the best of my memory, here is the set list:

Palm trees
Seagull
Jelly roll
Athens to Athens
Woke up dreaming

Slow train
Dust bowl
Dislocated boy
Driving towards the daylight
Who's been talking
Django
Mountain time
Further on up the road
Yonders wall
Ballad of John Henry

Sloe gin
Just got paid

Just want to thank publicly, the couple behind us in the third row of the pit.
They caught joes sunglasses and gave them to my son.
It made his night...thanks again!

Re: Wang Boston Smoking show

O.K. with  my mind cleared a little I can now take a shot at this review. So the story goes Joe got a bad hair cut before the show(nice butcher job). Joe then decides to take it out on everyone of his guitars!! This show was just dripping energy and attitude all night. The acoustic set was right on with Jelly Roll and Athens leading the charge. The electric show was just incredible!! I am really finding it hard to put into words!! Dislocated Boy(Back where it belongs) was topps for me on the night with Joe just blistering his way through the song!! Like I said the whole set would be Joe finishing a song and be sayin to the crowd "TAKE THAT"! Only to start on another and again the same thing. I know Joe is the "BlueBoy" but tonite was a good old fashion rock it hard and loud show. I'll just have to leave it at that and let others fill in. I know not a great review but I think most of you get the idea.
Good to see everyone and sorry to miss a couple of you. My only #@$@# of the night is the same I see in lots of reviews. Why come late and leave to get beer/bathroom breaks when your at a Joe show(or any show). There were still people arriving after the acoustic set wich ran over 20 min. I just don't get it!!

Thanks for the review. We know the source of the blues, in this case it was a bad haircut!

balcony blues

love joe so don't jump on me.  5th Joe B show. personally I thought joe was off his game a bit. the wang is certainly a pretty venue, but I didn't like configuration of the PA. the sound upstairs was less than stellar. muddy overall, vocals totally washed out on everything but the real quiet stuff. i also thought the crowd was horrible up in the balcony (maybe they should have sold them a few more beers!) . alot of yelling everytime joe left some open canvas. learned a valuable lesson. have had balcony seat before but have always been able to float to an optimium sound postion near the board or where ever. this place was locked down hard. reminded me of an indoor great woods in mansfield.  couldn't get downstairs so can't testify as to sound down there. some of what appeared rto be new arrangements on older songs seemed a bit off to me as well. specifically i was hearing some tempo issues.

John Henry on through the encore really saved the night for me.

I was in the pit and the soung was good. I agree about the crowd- not the best. I thought the arrangements(or lack of) is what made the show great!!! Just goes to show we all like something different!!
