Yeah, the DeVry anecdote was funny.

Show was terrific, I'm still buzzing. Got a lot of good shots to share.

Fabulous show...loved Blues Deluxe with Greg Koch, although it bumped one of my favorite songs from the setlist: Yonders Wall.
I've seen Joe and Greg play together before in Milwaukee, but didn't remember what a big guy he really is...it was very apparent standing next to Joe. He must be 6'-4" or 6'-5", and a helluva good player!

Re: Chicago Theatre - May 1, 2013

I know that Joe added a few converts to the faith, last night.  Afterwards, I saw a guy with the glow of bonabaptism about him, saying the usual things like "I never heard of the guy, before".  Made sure I welcomed him to the fold, and I know he won't be forgetting that show, any time soon.

Nor will I.  Great sound, nice light show, and a bonus appearance from Greg Koch.  Greg may not be to everyone's liking, but he's every bit as accomplished a guitarist as Joe said, while introducing him.  They played very nicely off of each other.  (No surprise, for me...when Steve Vai signs somebody to his label, I consider that a pretty decent endorsement.)

That was a spectacular rendition of Blues Deluxe, even though I agree with Bill that Yonders Wall is one of my favorites.  It was a more than reasonable trade to get Greg's contributions on that tune and Further, though.

Really enjoyed my balcony perch, fun to be able to see Arlan working those keys like a magician.  And loved Tal's usual antics.  No slight to any of the guys that have drummed with Joe (that's a talented list, for sure), but I really like watching Tal work his kit.  Watching Carmine prowl around in front of Tal always a good time, too.

And let's see...it seems like I'm forgetting someone.... wink

Thanks Joe !!!!  You never disappoint.  As Rocket mentioned, that was one well-oiled set list, performed by folks who were firing on all cylinders.  I could rattle off superlatives for some time, and still not do that show justice.

Par for the course, for an evening with Joe.

BTW, "Guitar Event of the Year" was absolutely true.  Another song, another guitar, was the order of the night.  A reminder of the talents of Joe's guitar tech (thanks, Mike).   It's always fun when Joe shares his collection.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

What a show! It'll be something I remember forever. Is it time for the spring 2014 tour yet?

One of the short video clips I took last night...

Nice and thanks! For a second I thought he was wearing the LV white suit until I realized it was light grey.

Bump, pretty soon methinks Joe will have a suit in every color!  He already said he wants one in Augusta green.  I suspect the zebra pattern being touted on here may take a little longer, however.

Lol at the green.  Interestingly I read recently there is a ticket lottery for Masters single day tickets so I entered for next year.  Combine that with a visit to the Big House in Macon.

Now back to our regularly scheduled topic..

I love that the venue had "Guitar Event of the Year" on the sign smile Maintaining such quality shows isn't easy. Hats off to all! Love hearing stories about stunned newbies too! smile

Re: Chicago Theatre - May 1, 2013

The first thing evident about this show was the level of security. I don't know if it's something they do for every show now at the Chicago Theater, but everyone was wanded as they entered and bomb sniffing dogs were present. Wasn't a problem or hassle by any means, just different.

Joe did a great job of building up the qualifications of the guest artist, and I'm sure that 95% of the audience expected Buddy Guy to walk out there - that is until Joe said he drove all the way down from Milwaukee to be there, lol! Classic! But after hearing Greg and Joe trade licks on "Further On Up The Road" and Greg's solo on "Blues Deluxe" the audience knew full well that Greg was more than qualified to share the stage with Joe! Once again, the re-worked "John Henry" was mind-blowing. I hope Rhonda (photogal) chimes in with her description because it is spot-on. Joe was working so hard that one could see the sweat bleeding through to the outside of his gray jacket on yet another intense "Just Got Paid".

Like JBFan4Life, I liked the loge seating. We were second row so only a couple heads to look between and a great view of the stage.

Great hanging out with "the gang" before and after the show!

Not a Joe security thing for sure...there was basically none in Sacto.

Saw Greg with Joe in Denver, great stuff.

First of a 6 parter from that show  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zkhKsl9ICg

The aftermath of the Boston bombings.  Times Square in NY and other areas are basically still being guarded as if a war is on,

Re: Chicago Theatre - May 1, 2013

On Monday & Tuesday of this week in downtown Chitown they had the bomb squad out for 2 packages found on the streets So I was glad to see the dog.Wish they would have had them for the drunks in the crowd that talked thru the show and stumbled to the bar every 1/2 hour. I wish they could close down the bar when the show starts. I got my tickets and meet&greets thru the litho pkg and we had GREAT SEATS smile FF center. During the ELECTRIC show JB broke a string and I think he BLEW up a part of the rig as I saw the Dog charging the stage LOL. Tal was a ANIMAL as he was breaking his sticks and Carmine was throwing them to the crowd. First time seeing Arlan and he was Killing the keys and I realy enjoyed him Rockin out with the guys. Loved the new John Henry and as Lee said seeing sweat come thru Joes suit coat PRICELESS. JB and the guys ROCKED CHICAGO!!!
