Topic: A ROCK SHOW ?

I love the Blues that Joe puts down . I will probably get pounced on for even suggeting this but . What does everyone think of Joe doing two or three different genre's of live shows ?  We know he can nail the Blues and now Acoustic with the tour in Vienna .  Now how about a sereis of all Rock shows ?  Jump in and tell me what you think.  I might be on the wrong thread as I dont completely understand the layout of the forum . Hope I didnt screw up.

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

I'd say he has hit the sweet spot with a combo of all genres now. Acoustic, Blues and Rock are fairly well mixed in the present tour. I see complaints from the lovers of each about the lack of emphasis on their particular favorite. Can't please them all.

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

You know Rick , you are exactly right . As fans we want more more more.  But I guess if I brag about how great the shows are and I do think that. Then its time to shut up and watch and listen to whats going down . Because its as good as it has ever been right now.   Thanks for the reality check. LOL

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

I too prefer the heavier classic rock style above others and the addition of Arlan and his heavy Hammond style just hits the spot. Added to an ace bassist and a heavy drummer like Tal what more could you ask for. cool

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

Thanks for your input . I always think Joe should play what he wants. Its just an observation . Classic rock is one of the most popular music forms . Joe could definitely do three distinctly different tours . He could do an all acoustic , a classic blues and and a classic rock show.  He is selling out venues all over the world , so you know folks are digging his shows. Im still waiting for the Zebra pattern suit . His shows are a spectacle as well as fine music. I say go for it Joe , your on a roll man.

You know I really mean it when I say the thing I most want to hear Joe play is what it is that he wants to be playing.
Whatever he plays I'm probably still going to rate him my number one favorite musical artist.
BUT I would really go wild for all rock.
I mean his shows do rock and so much is hard to categorize anyway.
I don't mean super heavy metal all the way, definitely less of the more blues numbers and acoustic blues. Now don't get  me wrong I AM STOKED for this coming Tuesday and catching the acoustic parts. The Vienna stuff is so great.
Anyway yeah its hard to say because he is outstanding in any field but IMHO the rock thing is just more important. Unless he doesn't choose it / feel it.

But I think its works well as is, his own unique Joe show. not like anything else out there. and, I don't expect it changing anytime soon.

Totally legit post. big_smile

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

Yes yes yes, the shows are a real spectacle , with the vintage guitars and some vintage amps . Its the best live touring band anywhere, If joe was so inclined to do a classic rock tour , Im sure he could pack the fans in.  I love his blues too but Im a classic rock fan for sure.

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

Im still looking for that Zebra pattern suit. Its entertainment and spectacle .  The shows are so energetic and full of visual stimulation . Of course the music is the best on the planet . That cannot be denied . So lets kick it up every now and then with flashy suits and lots of animated guitar moves on stage. Just one mans opinion. By the way , before the blues purest call for my banning from the forum . I love the blues shows and have been to six since 2012 . I even took my daughter and son in law to the Minneapolis show . The shows are blazing and spectacular .  But if Joe wants to do some classic rock in a Zebra pattern suit , this fan says OH YEAH . If he does , I will be in the first row for sure. Im sixty four and I aint gonna live forever. If you decide to do a classic rock tour , please open with Bob Segers  " Strut ".       http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi6BESTbQT8

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

I think the mix of styles Joes doing live is perfect.I too long for the rock side. Now that BCC is gone maybe Joe could do a different side project that's rock.I'm sure there are plenty of players to collaborate with.I'd like to see him and Brad Whitford for instance.I hope RCFP does a follow up too in the future.

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

Thanks for your input Gary. yes its hard to say anything bad about the shows now . Because they are the best I have seen him do . They get better each time I see him. But it is show business and it has to stay fresh. They do a fantastic job of keeping it so fabulous. But just as Joe made a smash hit of the acoustic tour, Im sure he would do an amazing job of Classic Rock . The list of players and songs goes on and on. I think the band he has on the road right now could nail it. Carmine doesn't get a lot of hype but the dude is the glue that binds them . Tal is so animated and gives more energy to the show . Arlan is more of a rock influence than blues. Joe , what can one say about Joe that hasn't already been said?  One of a kind for sure. He can play with anyone and he can be a success in Classic Rock , Blues , Acoustic , Country , you name it . I guess its all up to him what he wants to play. All I know is he is filling these venues on a regular basis and its getting tough to get seats up front. Case in point, check out Stub Hub for the Beacon shows . Keep on Rocking and Bluesing Joe . As a fanatic fan of yours I say , " call the tailor and get the Zebra pattern suit on order" . You cant do anything wrong right now.

Having Joe do classic rock in a zebra suit .......... the suit would go more with Tony Orlando and Dawn not Joe.

With the addition of Arlan and the reworking of John Henry it takes me back to Deep Purple and thats classic rock at its best.

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

Hey flatsman,I agree that this band could do the classic rock thing at the highest level.I would be up for it.I just don't see it happening. That's why I mentioned a side project.Or if Joes next solo cd was primaraly a rock oriented album, that would be a nice change of pace. The pieces are in place for a more rock sound with the current line up.I guess will have to see.It seems like Kevin Shirley likes Joe to record with his studio musicians.I would like tosee him record with this band intact.I think it could be very interesting!

also i like the song strut but imho it doesn't jump out at me as one i think Joe is likely to cover. if i am wrong that would be cool. just saying i had to post again to point out my agreement on a rock show didn't come along with your other requests, lol

are you still in without the suit and the song ? hmm

Ya somehow that song doesn't fit Joe oin my mind too.We all have our Joe cover fantasies as. There is a very long thread about them lol

Goodbye Goldbrick Rock Road...This boy's too old to not be singing the blues.

For now, yet I never heard never, rock has blown away like a candle in the wind!  Didn't you hear what the next project is Tweety Birds?! hmm

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

I think it would be great to hear the touring band record a studio album...but maybe they relish the downtime when Joe's in the studio.  Not to mention it probably freshens Joe up, to play with other musicians.  Kevin Shirley has clearly known what he's doing (as do Joe and Roy), when it comes to each of Joe's projects.

The diehard BCC fans are always going to wish that project never took the turn that it did.  Joe's made his position pretty abundantly clear, IMO.  What he's doing now is his first love, in whatever directions that may take him in the future.

As has been acknowledged in this thread (and elsewhere), Joe's not just your average bluesman.  That's what makes following him so much fun, right?

Personally, I'm enjoying the jazzy flavors of Joe that are showing up.  (RCFP, parts of the Beth Hart collaborations, and such.)

He keeps stretching, and rock will always be part of his nature, but never his ONLY one.

Such is life as a JB fan, I think.

As has also been said, I'm happy when Joe's happy, because it shows in what he's doing.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Well said,  I think that Kevin, Roy and especially Joe have a great masterplan and it is working out perfectly.  I anxiously await whatever is next.  I need to be careful not to say to my self, I won't like that.  Then Joe goes and does something crazy and I am like"Boy was I wrong" !  Keep us guessing Joe,  we love it

Joe's already done rock shows (see the ANDY Live DVD). Power trio blues rock "101"...we've kind of knocked this topic around before, but I've always been of the opinion that if Joe's latest CD's were released first, and then somthing like ANDY LIVE was released today, then it might become Joe's biggest selling CD instead of DTTD or whatever it is. Sometimes it's easy to say that just because the latest CD was the biggest seller, it was because of the songs on/style of the record - when it more likely is due to increased exposure, familiarity, growing popularity of Joe, etc.

The old chicken or egg argument eh Stu? wink

Re: A ROCK SHOW ?

I personally like his recent tours with a mix of everything - he's a diverse player and it's fun to get a bit of all of that.  He gets more specific with the side projects.  Interesting conversation, though.

Guilty as charged, sir! :-)

Sometimes I feel like a crumudgenoly old man who keeps beating the same, tired drum. But when I watch 'If Heartaches were nickels' from the old ANDY live DVD I get goosebumps that have not been since replicted. That's just me though. It's all good.
