Re: shows with Sam Bush

Sam is an incredible mandolin player and plays mainly bluegrass music. It's definitely an odd pairing of him opening for Joe, but then again I'm a big bluegrass fan and would love to hear Sam and Joe jam acoustically. That probably won't happen, but anything is possible.

Re: shows with Sam Bush

The show in Baltimore will be both. I think that "Sloe Gin" has songs that lend themselves well to Mandolin. Maybe Sam will come out for one of them....Should be fun...Cathy

Re: shows with Sam Bush

Joe's exact comment re: Sam Bush was "He Rocks!".  Guess that's quite an endorsement from da man.

Re: shows with Sam Bush

Sam also plays in what would have to be considered a bluegrass super group consisting of Sam on mandolin, Jerry Douglas on dobro, Bela Fleck on banjo, Mark O'Connor on violin, and Edgar Meyer on bass. They're called Strength In Numbers. I caught them years ago at the Strawberry Bluegrass Festival in Yosemite. Awesome act.

Boy Howdy!!! I catch the Del McCoury Band when I'm not checkin' out Alison and the Union Station boys. Must be a little hillbilly in me, my dad was born in West Virginny.

Re: shows with Sam Bush

I have Chris Hillman's '05 release The Other Side with bluegrassy/acoustic versions of Eight Miles High and It Doesn't Matter, from the Manassas days. Thats about as rockin' as mandolin gets, but it's all good IMO.

Re: shows with Sam Bush

I can second Jane's recollection as to Joe's comment "as much as one can rock a mandolin."  Joe's tone was one of surprise, like he wasn't quite sure how they came to be paired.  I have a good friend who says Bush is an incredible talent.  Even though I'm not a big bluegrass guy, I'm always excited to see one of the best at what he/she does.  I got to see Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson last week, and even though country isn't my first choice, it was awesome to get to see these legendary performers.

Well, I hope I'll like Bush 'cause I'll be seeing him in Baltimore and Penn's Peak.

Re: shows with Sam Bush

I hope nobody thinks Joe has any disrespect for bluegrass since I remember him saying Dan Tyminski was a favorite player of his. Dan's one of Alison Kraus' guitar players in Union Station.
