Topic: FOOTBALL!!

Big Sunday for Shred the sports junkie. No need to brush my teeth, comb my beard, or even shower. Just lie on my lazy butt, and have my wonderful wife wait on me, she does it every year to start the season.

Crawled in the attic for 3 hours the other day wiring electrical and low voltage wires. Got the LCD/HD television mounted above the fire place, surround sound ready to go. Is it to early to have my first heineken?

Heres my pick to win the superbowl:

New England Patriots ( Tom Brady, east bay boy! )

Heres my WISH to win the superbowl:

San Francisco 49ers  ( Frank Gore, MVP! )

Who do you guys and gals like for football?

Sorry, I thought you meant 'Football' ;-)

Re: FOOTBALL!!

Well I'm hoping the Ravens do better than the Orioles. (Which shouldn't be too hard). I have to admit I don't watch much football because I don't have to anymore. And, I don't have to supply beer and food on demand! A benefit of divorce! lol    gsj..I know how hard it is for you. My nephew is a big SOCCER fan and going to a game today...................Cathy

Re: FOOTBALL!!

A sobering reminder of what a violent game football can be. If any of you saw the helmet to helmet hit in the Denver Bronco/ Buffalo Bills game, you probably felt as sick to your stomach as I did. The Bills player " Kevin Everett" underwent emergency surgery today, after a severe cervical injury. The doctors have to wait up to 72 hours to see the extent of the injury. At this point the're hoping for just "a quality of life" at best. Lets all pray for this young man and his loved ones, we sometimes take our health for granted at times. As a parents of a son who played football for 10 years, we always never could fully enjoy the game until the end, when all the kids were safe.

God bless

Re: FOOTBALL!!

Patriots all the way  .. Brady and Moss had a good day. It'll be tough with Seymore and Harrison out for awhile, but the Patriots are deep and Belichek is a master ...Paul

Re: FOOTBALL!!

I'm hoping for good things from the Seahawks this year. Took my 2 sons to the game yesterday and had a great time.

My bad your right, Bradys from the peninsula, in fact, I believe he went to the same high school as Barry Bonds...Serra High?

My son is dying, you know he's a huge Michigan fan! My brother in-law is from Ohio, and them too, have been exchanging insults for years. I called David yesterday, he flew up from L.A. to see the Lions and Raiders play. I told him " dont go wearing a Lions jersey, them braces cost me a bundle, I'm not paying for dental implants, when some crazy Raiders fans jump you". He said it was hard not to control himself when the LIons won the game.

P.S...49ers tonight!!!!!!

Re: FOOTBALL!!

I talked to a couple of people who went to the Raiders game and heard there were Lions fans seen running outta the Coliseum after the game and there were plenty of fights. I can't believe I used to follow that team at one point in my life, but that was before they moved to LA when Raider games were a classy event and all the rowdies were at Niner games. Nowadays a Raider game is some sort of Halloween freak show fueled by alcohol, methamphetimine, and rage. Sound like the kinda thing you wanna take your kids to???????

By the way, did anybody see the Colts steamroll the Saints Thur. night? I'd be surprised if they don't repeat, which doesn't make for a very exciting season now does it?

Re: FOOTBALL!!

That's right Geoff..I do think soccer is more Football than what we call Football. I don't know what other name would work..Big Guys In Heavy Padding Trying To Get 10yds/play?,or what we called "MallBall" when I was a kid. That meant everyone piled on the one with the ball. I don't know. Then again, we have a "World Series" in baseball but it's only US teams. The winners get to be "World" Champions....Go figure....Cathy

Re: FOOTBALL!!

We invented baseball and the rest of the world now embraces it. Please nobody even think of retorting that it's like cricket or I'll track you down and paddle you with a cricket bat even if you enjoy that sort of thing. I have another name for soccer, sedative!! How many football games end 1-0 after a penalty kick?????????? I'm gettin' sleepy just thinkin' about it IMHO, c'mon bring it on from across the pond. Are you ready for some football!!!!!!!!!! Double header on ESPN tonight.

Re: FOOTBALL!!

Hi Roy,
Since you are such a nice guy, I'm glad your Packers won.

The Eagles held tryouts for special teams today and I was hired on the spot to be a punt returner.  lol lol lol Brett Myers (Phillies pitcher) showed up last night in the locker room with a Brett Favre/Packers hat on.  It didn't go over well after the big loss and he's not really that well liked overall (been arrested for beating his wife & booed by the fans & not that great)...besides all the special teams talk on the sports talk shows, most thought he was dissing the city of brotherly love.  He could have worn the hat on another day.

The Philly area had tons of Green Bay Packer fans when we were growing up!  My husband still has an unsharpened Green Bay pencil from high school in his junk drawer.

go pack go! Go Pack Go!! GO PACK GO!!!! For you non-football fans out there, that's the Green Bay Packers.

However, it's a great time of year to hit the golf course while the game is being played. At least until the snow gets a foot deep, then it makes it kind of hard to find your drive. And putting can be really awful!!

Well Shredit,
I heard on the news this morning that Kevin Everett voluntarily moved his arms and legs.  His doctors are still wary about his recovery but are calling this a minor miracle.   They're saying he may walk again.   This sounds like very encouraging and wonderful news.

Re: FOOTBALL!!

I recently skim-read this article about implanting devices in football helmets to meausre injury from impact at different places on the helmet.  I couldn't get the jist of how you could control hits so what good would the data be etc. so I never finished it, but it did make me think its a wonder there aren't more serious injuries the way some of the impacts are.  The outlook on Kevin Everett looks very promising, that's good news.  I think there was a Penn State player from Jersey a few years back that made a miraculous recovery against severe odds.
